Looking for a fleet~

Greetings~

I've recently picked up STO and, after going through a lot of the game's earlier content, I thought I would be nice to find a fleet that regularly does Space Special Task Force Elites rather than trying to coordinate random queue pickups all the time.

I'm a Vice Admiral Tactical officer with a decently geared Advanced Escort, and I'm always looking to improve myself. I'm a quick learner, I communicate well, and I can both follow and give instructions based on the situation at hand. STO is not my first MMO, and I feel that I'm a decently competent player as a whole.

My playtimes are mostly evenings and weekends. I'm a university student, so my weekday morning/afternoon schedule changes throughout the year. I am 21+ and able to conduct myself in a mature fashion. I would normally find this extraneous, but I have noticed that many fleet recruitment threads specifically mention age so I felt I should be up front.

I do have access to Vent and other voip applications for raids and STFs, though in general I would not utilize these much purely for socializing. I tend to multitask and wander away from the computer when I'm not raiding, and I often find that voice chat can become cumbersome and difficult to use in large-scale social situations as people end up talking over each other. I don't mind listening in from time to time, but I doubt I would participate in much of the conversation.

Rigid rank structures are a turn-off. Truth be told, I've never even played a game that had more ranks than "Leader", "Officer", and "Member". Seeing fleets with 10+ different grades and ranks when there are only really 6 missions in the game that require loot distribution strikes me as odd. I am a nice guy, and I tend to make myself sound more difficult to get along with on paper just to be safe, but I dislike being told to do something outside of a raid solely because someone is of a higher "Rank". I've been in many leadership positions in other games, and as a personal policy I feel that respect for orders is something earned by both parties rather than something given as a right. This is not to be confused with personal respect, which I do accord to everyone. This also does not mean that I do not follow non-raid orders at all. It just means that when I follow them, I do so not because someone is an "Admiral", but because I respect their judgment. I hold myself accountable for my actions and apply the same standard to everyone else.

Despite my tone, I'm fairly casual about things like loot. I don't think I deserve anything more than anyone else, but likewise I'm generally turned off when people make a point to feel that they deserve X, Y, or Z. While losing a lot on salvage doesn't bother me, seeing people force others to pass on loot arbitrarily is simply a bad sign and generally leads to fleet drama elsewhere. My general policy is simply, "I don't need this more than you. But you don't need it more than me, either."

While this OP may look awful by now, I'm honestly a pretty laid back guy and I can get along with most anyone. I simply feel it's dishonest to present only the "good" from the onset, just to reveal the "bad" after joining a Fleet as is all too common in many games. Instead, I put the "bad" up front, so people can know that it really doesn't get any worse than what's on the tin. My main goal at the moment is simply to get some Elite STFs done and have a good time.

Finally, as I've noticed this is a bit of a problem in this subforum, I'll make it clear now that I will unilaterally ignore any responses that are copy-pasted. I took the time to write a detailed OP, please do me the courtesy of at least reading it.

Thank you for your time.

Finally, as I've noticed this is a bit of a problem in this subforum, I'll make it clear now that I will unilaterally ignore any responses that are copy-pasted. I took the time to write a detailed OP, and while I certainly don't expect detailed responses off the bat I would appreciate, at the very least, for fleet representatives to read it past the title..

Yes there seems to be a lot of that. It is sort of hit and miss in here finding the right fleet. The best way is to do what you have done here and put as much information for people to reply to. The more the better and the people that really think you are a good fit will put more detailed comments to let you know. But there are probably some good fleet fits for you that will not post on here, some great fleets that will just cut and paste something and there will also be just as many fleets that may be a bad fit that will try to make themselves sound like a great fit. So don't give up on any fleet just because their info seems a little staged. Maybe the time they are saving from writing a detailed comment to you they are giving back to their fleet ;)

It is easy for us because we are just looking for people in their 30s 40s and beyond and all of the other stuff is seeing if you like the people that are in the fleet!

Good luck with your quest for a home and don't forget you can just ask to try the fleet out for a couple of days to see if it is a good fit for you.

    Hello,

I invite you to check out the 44th. We are pretty casual, and no one is going to 'pull rank' and give out orders etc etc. We do have a rank structure, but it's more for bank access, permissions, and such. We use a teamspeak server. Currently, we are small and trying to rebuild the fleet. We have a pretty full fleet bank, and we have people that can craft. Some of us are online fairly late at night, so if you are a bit of a night owl, definitely check us out. We like to run STFs, and we are becoming more and more dissatisfied with the quality of the PUGs these days. (although it might also be because I've ground out 5 mark XI STF sets now on different alts, lol). The fleet has been around since before beta, and I have as well. To be honest, we've had a lot of turnover, especially with the content drought last year. If we seem a good fit for you, check us out at startrek.44thfleet.com

Or PM me if you have any questions.

Welcome to STO and the forums.

By reading your requirements and expectations, I can say you wouldn't be happy in the Jevonite Order. We have a small group most much lower levels than yourself.

It is still nice to have friends and if you ever want to team up for something feel free to visit. Just wanted to say hello and welcome. I've been out for a while, so although I'd like to help; I'm unfamiliar with most of the active fleets on the forums.

Enjoy and feel free to visit us from time to time.

You were honest with me, so I will in turn be honest with you, especially when it comes to your distaste for a "rank structure".

Here at the UFP, we have a pretty hefty and organized rank structure? Is it because some players are more valuable than others? No. Is it because some players deserve a shiny rank and others don't? No. Is it because we not only have a rigid rank structure, but a ton of rules to follow or you'll be busted to the lowest rank? No. I think you get the point, so let me tell you why we have one.

We are playing Star Trek. In Star Trek, there is a rank structure. Basically, it's just another way for us to immerse ourselves in a universe we all love. There are no "premiums" for holding a high rank in the UFP, in fact, more is expected from you in the fleet. Along with that, advancement is never forced on anyone. You will be promoted from Creman 3rd Class to Petty Officer 3rd Class upon completion of the Entrance Exam. After that, any rank you advance is at your discretion and based on your contributions to the fleet.

We have a dedicated group of players who do STFs on a regular basis and even have them scheduled twice a week. Since we are a worldwide fleet, we are always looking for players who want to hold raids at different times to meet all of our fleet's needs.

As far as fleet requirements, there are only two. First, we ask you take a short entrance exam to show you have familiarized yourself with the fleet and it's organization. Second, we hold roll call at the beginning of each month to help us weed out players who have abandoned the game. Miss roll call three consecutive months (that's right, three- not once) and we remove you from the fleet.

We use Teamspeak3 for in-game voice, have our own website, publish a regular e-zine, and hold quarterly award ceremonies (which allows us to immerse ourselves a little more). We also support every Star Trek game there is and have our own dedicated servers for some of them.

There you go. After reviewing your request, I believe it's possible we could be a good fit for you- that is if you can accept our little rank structure thing. I suggest you give us a visit by clicking my signature banner below. I think you'll be glad you did. Tell 'em Stormy sent ya.

If rank is a problem among your requirements, you will find it very very difficult to find an active fleet. Many fleets have rank structure based on the responsibilities certain members accepted within the fleet.

The larger the fleet the more difficult it is to run by yourself and so a staff is created. That staff of members which accepted the additional roles to help the fleet operate are rewarded with rank, because there is no other way to compensate them for the time spent operating the fleet. There are no perks and no "yes sirs or ma'ams" but those who coordinate various aspects of fleet/in=game/RP/Calander to maximize each member's experience. These senior officers schedule meetings to help plan when is the best time to meet and team up on missions, what missions are their teams on, are there any items one member doesn't need that can help a second complete a mission, how are the PvPs going, etc.

No player is better than another, however fleet ranks give some players that little thank you for selflessly sacrificing personal time for the fleet. Other fleets can confirm and/or deny these opinions.

I'm not sure that that's entirely true. There are plenty of fleets that operate more as communities and so don't have a rank structure inherent in them.

Obviously I'll now plug BSC as we're such an organisation!

But honestly, you can get larger communities (and larger than us as, sadly, we've shrunk somewhat since STO was released, and are only now just re-growing) that run with a far more casual atmosphere.

That said, you note that you don't tend to use VOIP that much, and we do like to see and hear people in our community - and that most use it. Still, it's not compulsory, so do come and have a nose into our forums if you're interested.

Yes ours has no rank structure. We have a 5 member Advisory Council and some administrative officers but we are all equals. I know a few fleet do that as well. We feel that we all have bosses and family that tell us what to do, we don't want a bunch of our pears doing that same lol
