Would you watch a new Trek Show, based on new kirk as a kid?

I know people might go nuts over this idea, but really would you watch a New Show based on new timeline young Kirk? We got to see him trash a car, and who was that kid he waved too on the road. Plus sounded like his mom was in Starfleet, and his uncle wasn't happy with him to start.

I know we would never see a movie based on young kid Kirk, but what about a TV show?

Mind you I am not saying make this the new Trek show we want, just would you watch a show like this?

I still want a new show set in the prime timeline, and make it set after the events of Voyager. Still got my fingers cross witht he two Brians trying to get one off the gound, and I hope they really do a great job on it if they do.

In the expanded script that kid he waved to was his older brother George Kirk (played by the Shat in at least one TOS episode in which he dies). But they edited it just to be some kid on the side of the road without explaining who he is. I guess since he wasn't seen in the Kelvin escape scene but he was supposed to be with relatives on Earth at the time of the attack.

Edit to provide link to George S. Kirk from TOS: http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/George_Samuel_Kirk

I would at least check it out. For me to continue watching it would have to be entertaining. We saw with the last series (Star Trek Enterprise) that with the same set of characters you can have a mediocre show or an excellent show. Let's face it, the show just sort of meandered until it was clear the were going to be canceled, then they finally put out the great stuff they were holding back on. If they had put out the great stuff from the git-go they probably would not have been canceled and we would be watching Star trek movies about Archer.

So if they do it right, make it fun and entertaining I will watch.

    Yes and No.

I agree with WarpVis on the good content but one problem is that they constantly try to emulate TOS in its crew make up. "Iconic Human Leader", "Non-Human 'side kick'', Android/Phontonic Program/Founder or along those lines.

I wouldn't mind seeing a Captain of another species.

I don't think that is a problem. Star Trek is about humanity's future, not Andoria's future. My problem with Star Trek is they got into checklists.
    • White Character
    • Black Character
    • Female Character
    • Asian Character
    • Alien Character
    • Half-Alien Character

Then they broke those down by
    • Captain
    • First Officer
    • Engineer
    • Security
    • Nerd
    • Doctor
By the time we got to Enterprise, we had stereotypes of each of group (ie Redneck white engineer, short Asian nerd, etc).

One of the things I like most about DS9 is the fact they turned Star Trek on its head. To steal someone else's quote, Sisko wasn't written to be the black captain; he was written to be the captain who just happened to be black. His race was as relevant as the color of Janeway's eyes. Just as O'Brian wasn't written to be the Irish engineer; he was written to be the engineer who just so happened to be Irish.

If Star Trek is to come back, it has to leave this Hollywood mentality behind. It's good to have diversity, but don't force it. Otherwise we end up with a Neelix and only because that's what the checklist says despite almost universal hatred of the character. And nothing show you are in touch with your audience than a character who adores water polo! At least Sisko liked baseball, a sport the majority of viewers knew was played professionally.

Storm-Strike now that does make a lot more since, but at the time I was thinking it was a best friend, then I figured isn't that kid too old to be his best friend. lol So why was his older brother on the road, was he running away from home? Hmmmmmm

Oh well shame things like that ended up on cutting room floor, like the escape parts from the Klingon Empire.

I would certainly check it out but im not sure that is something i would watch unless the shows was brilliant, but to be honest you could make the case for anything set in the star trek universe. yes i watch to see what its like but ultimately i watch star trek because of the whole treking through the stars part of it.

the show would have to be something awesome to keep me interested if the main premise of the franchise is not being shown. young kirk being a brat in some kind of Dawson's creek for the 22nd century does not sound that awesome.

    -recalls Ewoks movies-
    No. No I wouldn't. :(

Now if Disney made Star Tinker-Trek, that I'd watch.
You know you want it. A starship run by fairies with a warp reactor full of pixie dust. Feel it! Live it! NEED IT!! :D

I would watch a new weekly series with the new crew, but not "The Misadventures of Young Jimmy Kirk."

There was talk of a series set in the prime universe around their academy years. But if prime universe that would cause some continuity issues. We dismissed those issues in 2009 since it was another universe but it would be hard to accept in prime universe.

Yes, I know, I was on the net at the time (and opposed to it, for what it's worth).

I would prefer they use a different crew. We've seen a cruiser (TOS, TNG) and a Science Vessel (VOY). Why not a series based entirely on an Escort-class vessel. The closest we have come are the later seasons of DS9, but even that was an excuse to get off the station.

I would, however, watch an entire series based on Kataan from The Inner Light if they were to bring Stewart back to star in it. He's getting old so they could base the series in his later "years" down there. The entire series could be based on Kamin coming to terms with himself being a father and learning about the planet's imminent destruction.

Iiiiii don't know. That was such an excellent episode, in part because it left most to the imagination and showed us just moments from that other life, that I'd hate to try to follow it.

I'd watch it but I'm not thrilled about the idea. Any future Trek should move forward 70-100 years beyond Nemesis. Its not just the Enterprise, but the franchise itself needs to go to unexplored, new futures or it stagnates. Everyone knows what the state of the quadrant is in Kirk's time. I want to go to 2475 and see what's going on then.

What if it was based on a young Picard instead? That way there is no reason to introduce the other TNG characters as most of them wouldn't be born yet.

I was hoping for a Starfleet Academy series back before they announced Enterprise.

It would be interesting to do one now, based about 10 years or so after Nemesis.

The TNG crew are still around and could make appearances.
O'Brien could make guest shots as an Engineering Professor.
    Admiral Riker and Ambassador Picard.
Start it out towards the end of a graduating class, and then show them being thrust into different positions on a "training" starship.
    Maybe a Command School.

A show based on the childhood antics of Kirk?

    No.

    Unequivocally, no!

It's not that I mind moving away from the Starfleet angle of things - one format I'd like them to go for is sort of an Outer Limits approach to Trek (called Federation in my mind) with no fixed cast, time period or setting, just lots of standalone stories set in the same universe - but it's the childhood angle. Those tend to get incredibly sappy, and really, there isn't going to be anything young Kirk does that's going to be interesting or relevant, without raising the question, why did this never come up before?
