The NEXT HOT SHIP in a Grab Bag

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
I know, I had to go there - NOT my favorite Topic, but somebody has to post it :(

Recent CRYPTIC news has stated that the Master Keys will now remain as an item on the CStore - where future Lock Packages to be released down the line.

During the winter event, the CStore offered the RED GIFT BOXES that could only be obtainable via the CStore with no chance in hell to be obtained via the winter game (we all remember that nightmare-very very very low odds in obtaining a RED in the games). It was CRYPTIC first attempt at the grab bag notion that was met with huge success in regards to sales.

For those F2P players that are new to these forums and are unfamiliar with the RED BOXES, the first ship in a box (sorta speak) - was the Jem Hedar Attack Fighter.

Presently the NEW RED BOX incarnation are the Gold Cardassian Lock Boxes that have a very ultra low chance of dropping. The normal cardassian lock boxes also gives the ultra low chance of obtaining a Cardy (aka Galor).

As of date we have:

A) Red Boxes = A 0.045% chance at a BUG

B)Golden Cardassian Lock Box = ????% chance at a CARDY

C) normal Cardassian Lock Box = also features a possible 0.045% chance at a CARDY

So here is the question in regards to the topic of this thread:

Whats the next ship to make a possible debut in a grab bag?

Will it coincide with a future Featured episode or Holiday event?

For starters here is my take on a future release of Grab Bag vessels - (by the way I was on the money in regards to the CARDY - I knew that one was going to be released, had that gut feeling)

1. A Romulan related vessel, which includes -> Warbird, Scout, Escort <-- models are already in place

2. A Breen warship <-- Model already in place and can be given during a repeat event via lock boxes or cold packages :P

3. TIN MAN from the TNG series --> heck probably a future Valentine event lock box drop <--- Taking a shot in the dark with that one.

4. Borg Sphere <-- models are in place already (I see this one coming)

5. Ferengi Vessel - with the spiraling weapon used in the TNG series / model is in place

6. Undine scout vessel - Again models are already in the game

7. Doomsday Machine- Heck who knows / makes a cool looking Battlecruiser with very BIG GUN

8. The USS Dauntless - from the Voyager Episode "Hope and Fear" <-- This one is a long shot, but it would be cool to have with its morphing ability. :D (Not that I like to see any ship in a Grab Bag )

And sadly, this is unlikely to change anytime. soon. With the influx of silver players, all PWE/Cryptic will release are broken FEs twice a year and lotto boxes. The KDF will never be finished, and the Romulans will never even be considered. Just bi-annual, bugged episodes and lotto boxes until the servers get shut down.

    End of line.

Ferengi D'kora would be awesome and funny, though it would be much cooler if you had to buy it for some ridiculous amount of GPL.

This is a hypothetical question. Let's say there will be more lock boxes, and each new lock box will have a new rare ship in inside. There is nothing anyone can do about it and they will happen. With that in mind, which ship would you want to see added? Which ship would you not want to see added. Are some ships more suited to the lock box or would make them more appealing or cause less rage over them?

Should they release ships from factions like the Romulans or the Ferengi, or go for something a little more 'out there', say a Xindi ship or a Tholian that we would never get to play anyway? Perhaps they should be something we have never seen before like a Tzenkethi ship so they are not iconic in any way? Should they be ships like the Tier 5 connie or one of the many alien ships seen over the years?

Personally I would like to see Xindi ships. I imagine that we will never have the Xindi as a faction (unlike Romulans or Cardassians) and it strikes me as a better bet to have something more unusual and a little less iconic in them. We know the Xindi join the federation at some point but we don't know when. There is still enough mystery and hostility to suggest why either the Feds or the Klingons might have access to their ships.

I would not want to see a Romulan ship. I think with their faction the next on the list I think it would be a bad idea to have a ship like that put in a grab bag and then a little while later become free for everybody. I think the romulan popularity would cause further backlash over a random chance ship.

    Thoughts?

Ah, Great minds think alike :D

In all honesty, I am hoping they go back to placing ships where they belong -> on the CStore

(Either that or still offer the RED BOXES and the GOLD CARDASSIAN LOCK BOX on the CStore well after the event is over, along with the Master Keys for the Box and future Box releasses)

They'll still have a constant steady flow of income, while giving players a shot in acquiring the different ships. - Trust me it will generate sales (If they keep them bound to the consumer upon purchase)

I hate the idea but I guess thats looking at it from a profit point of view :(

    Bug = Escort
    Cardie = Cruiser
    ??? = Science

So far both grab bag ships have been faction neutral for FED and KDF players, so I don't see them tossing in BoPs or the like. Further, the bug was released before the 2800 featured series, the Cardie was released during (roughly), which leaves us missing the Dominion ally that joined after the war was already under way: the Breen. Therefore I predict a Breen Science ship for the next grab bag, set for release into the game some time after the 2800 featured series is over.

That's probably closer to 0.65%. I think maybe your numbers there got confused with the probability formula for calculating the odds of seeing one over successive drops.

    It's not less than 1/20th of 1%. It's over half of 1%.

I wouldn't want any non-fed or klingon ships for my characters. Why would my Starfleet crew command a Galor Class? Give me the possibility to play a cardassian crew in the CDF and I'm fine. But I won't fly just any vessel because it is in the game, less so because its part of a gambling event.

    True :(

Just curious, because its bound to happen anyways, I thought maybe folks would post their views on Grab Bag offers. Its akin to the statement made by Captain_Revo.

One way or the other, I no non-aligned faction vessels will show up eventually hidden inside a package of some sort. Its the only thing people really want.

If you break it all down:

    A) Do folks really care about a 1hr or 8hr skill boost item?
    B) Commodities?
    C) Pets galore? - the entire exchange and the CStore itself is flooded with pets.
    D) DOFF Personnel? (Its great for those who love and use the system - but for many its only another thing in the bag.)
    E) a rare or very rare weapon and shield (Already obtainable via crafting or exchange)

If folks are going to invest in the grab bag notion here are some ideas, aside from ships:

    A) Non-faction align exclusive weapons:

    1. Breen weapons
    2. Cardassian compression rifle
    3. Jem Hedar Nuclear Missile :D <--- I made that up, but sounds cool
    4. Hirogen weapons and melee weapons
    5. Jem Hedar melee weapon

    B) The exclusive winter day event Light sa... I meant Pulse Bat'leth and Pulse Vulcan ma'thingy :D

    C) The photonic Referral BO <-- continue to offer it as a rare drop

    D) Veteran Officer BO <--- as a rare drop

    E) A 5K Dilithium Crate <----offer it as a very rare drop

    F) A VIRTUAL Plush Mini Defari, Cardassian, Breen, Borg, Romulan, Jem Hedar, Hirogen, Reman, Klingon, Gorn, Lethean, Ferengi, Trill, Bolian, Andorian, Saurian, etc,,,, that follows you around
(Like a CHIBI pet) <--- its a cool pet guys & gals, come'on you have to admit this idea is cool. :D

You can make the VIRTUAL CHIBI mini's of ---> Q, Admiral Quinn, J'mpok, Spock, or any standing out character from the series or in game ultra rare.
--> don't you want a chance at a mini Janeway, Picard, James T kirk :P

These are some ideas that make the grab bag profitable and does not have to include a ship of some sort.

If they keep offering ships for events and features series then we will get to a point where the majority have at least one non faction-bound ship. So while CBS won't have 100 thousand Captains flying Bug Ships or Galors, they will have 100 thousand Captains flying Galors, and Bug Ships and Ferengi ships and Borg Ships and Andorian Ships and....

I think that defeats the point of this rarity shtick!
