Macro time delay

Hi everyone, I have a Microsoft sidewinder x6 keyboard, and I'm having problems with my macros.
They work intermittently, but often not at all.

Does anyone know the optimal time delay to set? For instance, if I wanted a macro to be alt + 1 what would the time differential need to be for this to work?

Currently they often fire other keys, or simply don't execute at all.

I was pondering getting a different keyboard, but I thought I would check if there was simply a problem with my macro skills first.

Thanks.

I use a 0.2 sec delay on my G13 for macros.

    Example

    ALT press
    0.2 sec delay
    1 press
    1 release
    0.2 sec delay
    ALT release

Hmm... thank you. This is what I'm using as well, so perhaps it's simply the keyboard/software.
I guess it's time to try a different one.

STO's responsiveness with skills is horrible. I have two macros on my Razer mouse for space which basically play the sequence

    [Ctrl] 1, 2, 3, 4 [release Ctrl]. The other is the same except 5, 6, 7, 8

    I have to put in a 1250ms delay between 1 and 2, then 250ms between 2, 3, and 4.

For some reason there has to be a giant delay after the first power, because otherwise it won't register the second one.

Also if you try to activate a particular skill right when its cooldown ends, it usually never activates, but sometimes can get hit with another partial or even full cooldown with no effect.

    I use this for Alt+1:

    Alt down
    20 ms wait
    1 down
    150 ms wait
    1 up
    Alt up

Before that I used 10ms between Alt and 1 and it was missfiring a lot.
Without modifiers I could do typing input with 10 ms delays.

As an update to this: I tried recording my macros on the fly (in-game) and they seem to be working better.
I'm going to run a few episodes and random missions before I start rejoicing though.

To be honest I was a little excited at the prospect of getting a new keyboard, but it seems a waste if I can have this one working.

    Cheers!
