User Interface (HUD) Generating lag (lots of it, too)

Whenever I play STO, I notice significant differences in FPS when the UI is on, or off. Not as much on my main computer, but since I often play at school with my spare time, the integrated graphics can't seem to get along with the UI. The frame difference on the IG is around 15-25 frames lost. At home with my Radeon 5650, I lose only 2-5 frames. What do?

Nothing you can do... It's a common problem, and it is not on your end.

What to do about what? The crappy graphics card in the school PC? Change it?

I'm amazed the game runs at all on an integrated graphics, since my laptop has a mediocre, but acceptable graphics card in it and I run at almost lowest detail settings.

To answer your question more specifically; since there are little to no graphics settings that affect the UI, there is nothing you can do.

The UI is CPU dependant and it uses 1 thread (IIRC). So in this case, you may want to get a CPU which has less cores but higher clock freqency.
