There is currently a thread on the bug forum from someone who knows 2 people that were listed as winning a galor who did not. How much of the spam we are seeing isnt even true?

You should be worried it was all true.

I would say its just a ploy to get people to go and buy keys. I am still wondering why they never just had us look for keys as drops instead of buying them then i remembered they went free to play so they want as much money as they can get. Whatever happened to the old days when things were alot more easier to deal with especially during the economy so screwed up.
Oh well life goes on but i will not be spending any money on things here, they are just after money nothing more. The good old days are gone from Cryptic and not its Money Money Money........
One way or another I'd like to see a response from Cryptic soon. Hopefully the QA team has picked up on that thread which was only moved by community moderator not a goldie. I'm far too composed to vent fury without definitive cause though. Its been a tough weekend for the game, and if there is an issue, right now my hunch is that it is a display bug considering the server has been flip flopping itself since thursday and Rehpic must be getting tired by now.
I've been seeing this lately in game. Yesterday I saw someone in zone chat complaining about having a message pop up saying they got a galor, but they hadn't even opened a box before. I thought they were just making stuff up, but I saw a few more of that throughout the day. Then I saw a galor message pop up and immediately in zone I saw that person saying that they in fact did not get a galor. So who knows what's going with it.
I *very* much doubt that Cryptic is cooking the books (so to speak) on the Galor messages. The consequences of being found out far, far outweigh any possible advantages. They'd be pilloried in every MMO rag, journal, and blog. Penny Arcade might do a comic about them. Truly a fate worse than Chapter 11.
So I'm reasonably certain these reports are bugs. Even so, I encourage investigation, since these are serious accusation.. But how would one go about it? Compile a list of everyone who won the Galor? How do you then determine if they have won or not? Or just use that list to see if anyone's name you recognize pops up? Or... what?
Well at least so far there have been other ways of obtaining things.
With the Winter Loot Boxes you had the, slim chance, of getting a red box from winning the daily event so no money spent there.
And with the Cardasian Loot Boxes you can purchase Keys off the Exchange for EC rather than money or CP. Or if you have a ton of dilithium you can always convert those to CP to get a key.
Now if you could only get stuff for real money then I'd say there's a problem but so far there have been alternate ways, thankfully.
I imagine that at least some of the people going "I didn't get one" in zonechat are doing it because they did get one, but the entire zone is PMing them about the galor and they want to make it stop.
But given the frequency of it, I suppose that it isn't very likely that they're all doing it, and they wouldn't be posting on the forums about it if it weren't true.

I was curiuos as well, as I was contracted via private channels that such is the case and even given links to old now deleted threads that suppossedly held proof.
It would be a sad state of affairs if it came to be true.

i dont believe cryptic would intentionally lie on this. its too easy to be proven as a lie and i dont see what it gains them. most people who do open them are real so why add a couple of false one here and there? it gains them nothing other than being exposed as liars.
i can believe the system is bugged, like many things are and its just reporting winners when they have not done anything. its also possible the winners are lying simply to conceal they have won so they dont get hounded by offers.
I find it highly unlikely that Cryptic / PWE would deliberately authorise such blatant misrepresentation.
Although we've seen a few outright lies and many stretched truths over the past year; this would represent an entirely new shift in policy to deceive the playerbase.
So if the reports are true, then it may be the result of a 'coding error' that will never be fully explained. It's perfectly reasonable to assume, as this code wasn't tested fully on Tribble, that a few problems fell through the gaps. A dev will say 'my bad' and there'll be much huffing and puffing on the forums. Then nothing will ever come of it as the same 'problem' happens on the next lockbox lottery. Lather, rinse, repeat.
The difference between not having the manpower to fix such a bug and deliberately lying to the playerbase should be immense. But the results are the same, and this is the year of judging Cryptic on their results.
More likely, however, is the players denying their wins are simply embarassed by the spam and do not wish to expose themselves further.
I wouldn't doubt it. Trying to entice people into buying keys. They have been caught in lies before. I really don't think they care. I'm sure they will say it's a bug, if they even acknowledge it.
The people saying it could be lying. There's no way we can know if it's true or not. Unless someone is recording on Fraps or demo record.

I have been stuck in STFs with players who seem completely unable to count to 3. There is a lot going on in this game and not everyone is so adept as many of us forum posters. 100% human inspection is only 80% effective. People miss things all the time.
Everyone I have contacted about their system messages has gotten a ship. I see no reason to believe otherwise.
In the last 3 days I've watched messages fly by every minute or two about someone "winning" a Galor. Hmm, OK. I play over 12 hours a day. I'm disabled and rarely leave the house, so I have little else to do but watch TV. In those 3 days I've seen ONE Galor flying. Uh did I mention I've seen ONE Galor flying? I'm just saying.

This^^. With all the bugs lately, this is a MUCH more likely explanation. And I highly doubt Cryptic would INTENTIONALLY make blatant lies like this. It's just too easy to be proven false, and the PR consequences would be a total mess.

Captains, there is already a thread on this matter in the bug forums. Please post in there.
If you have had this happen to you or someone you know, please send in a community ticket letting me know the name of the character and @handle. I can promise you that this is not intentional and is a bug if it is really happening. I say "if it is really happening" because yesterday, while I was playing, I was sending "gratz" messages to random winners when I saw their name flash -- not a single one said "huh?" or "what was that for?" They all were issued a Galor from opening a box.

Have you tried an aeroshot yet Rehpic?
Their practicing for the Limbo playoffs in the 2012 Olympics, they must go lower if they want to beat Hermes!

Dave got two Galors? Lucky lucky lucky.
It didn't have to be true.
It would be better if it wasn't.
There's a thread by someone who claims it...
Will ask him how many begging/hate mails he got tonight....

Regular workday at Cryptic since launch.
Cryptic doesn't under stand PR consequences.
Or honesty for that matter.
