Ok I don't like to many reboots, but some movies and shows should get the reboot treatment. If they are done right, they can be better than the original version.

Now the guys behind ABC's V, the rebooted version, will try their hand at Space 1999, and if you don't know what I am talking about. Here is trailer from one of the shows :

You can read more about what is planned at the following link. I just hope they don't TRIBBLE up the concept, we do need a good scifi TV show. :D

Didn't V do very poorly? Same guys doesn't actually instill confidence.

I know that what's got me a little concerned, but they might do a good job on Space 2099. The original version Space 1999 was good back in the day, but I watched it again not long ago and felt. This show needs to be updated bad. lol So I cross my fingers and hold these guys can make it happen. If they can get past 1 season that good, 2 season better, then 3 or more is great. I know I will be keeping an eye on this project, maybe it will be a winner when it's done.

I think it would be worthwhile if in the reboot the explosion sent the moon hurtling in the opposite direction this time.

    Towards the Earth??

It would certainly save them from the risk of an epic first episode and complete let down for the rest of the run.

I say don't use the explosion angle, but use a wormhole angle. Maybe some scientist guy is doing an something with wormhole tech, and something goes wrong sending the moon off into the deep reaches of space. If could work right? lol

Space 1999 was deeply a thing of it's time. I suppose they could do alright by it. But if they mess with the "Helpless before the universe" vibe it'll just be another space cowboy show.

As long as it's got a funky theme tune like the original, then I'm in :)

I watched Space1999 as kid when it first came out in the 70s and thought it was facinating.

I remember also being scared at some of the epsiodes, especially the one where everyone was pretending to be from earth and they were in fact one-eyed spaghetti monsters. Gave me nightmares for months.

I tought V was okay. I wasn't gripped, but I wouldn't mind them doing a 3rd series just to see how it ends.

Now where is my Buck Rogers!!!! Begglie beeglie...

Yes, that's troubling me as well. We'll see.

I can't get ANYTHING past you guys today.

Okay, maybe a different angle. I like the wormhole idea. But suppose instead of that we have a BIGGER explosion. Forcing the entire universe to undergo massive acceleration away from the moon at somewhere between 50 and 100 km/s/Mpc. Sounds about right.

They actually did recently remake Space 1999, it was called "Stargate Universe". A group of under-prepared humans on a doomed mission, forced uncontrollably away from their homes and loved ones on a one-way course to the unknown.. each episode focussing on trying to survive the latest threat, and perhaps, just perhaps, to find a safe place to llive, or to find a way home. Ironically, SGU also only lasted two seasons. (Just for fun, compare the SGU episode S01e05 "Light" with Space 1999's S01e03 "Black Sun".)

Funny, that also seems to be the plot of Voyager.. and with minor alterations, Gilligan's Island.

I watched V this last go round, but wasn't a huge fan. But after seeing what happens with truly engaging Sci-Fi on TV lately with SGU, Defying Gravity, and even Fringe (which may be cancelled this season)... I don't have a lot of hope for the show surviving very long.

But then, the original Space 1999 itself only lasted 2 seasons.

Its unfortunate that the 'buisness' seems less encouraging of new sci-fi shows (and I'm not talking about the garbage they show on sci-fi channel). Just like the big screen, the safebet is often in what has worked before, or what has survived as a cult classic.

I do enjoy them, but I'd rather enjoy really new sci-fi more... if that makes sense. I guess for those who never saw the originals, its pretty new new. ^^

If they do Space: 1999, they have to keep the intro. That track is just so win.

V's trouble spot was NBC, who bumped V in favor of the Olympics mid season, without warning.
People who wanted to watch V, changed the channel when the Olympics were on instead.
V's ratings AFTER the Olympics had plummeted. To NBC that ment failed show, not, "OOPS, we killed it ourselves".

I loved Space 1999 as a kid, and the one eyes spaghetti monsters gave me nightmares for years!

I never watched the V reeboot, but if that didn't work, I can't see Space 1999 working either. Whatever next? Terrahawks?

Please, leave them alone, I want to remember them as they were (probably why I never watched the V re-boot!)

I thought what ended up being "V's" final episode was pretty killer (pun intended) I think I was slack jawed from al teh twist and turns seen durin gthat lat bit of programming, and at least they got Marc Singer's Cameo in, before it ended.

Which version, the first or second series. The second is the best IMO

After a little more research, I see that the guys who made the "V" remake also did the "Bionic Woman" remake, so their track record is not great, but with that being said, at least it's an upward trend.

V was on ABC. The original was on NBC if not mistaken. Plus the ABC remake we're talking about here did not go against any Olympics.

I think Star Trek spoiled us with shows like Space:1999, but I still loved the old show, and couldn't wait until it aired as a kid. You know I always wondered why they didn't jump in there ships, and abandon the base when it was still in the Sol system. But if they did there wouldn't be a show right. lol

If memory serves, I believe that in the Entreprise episode of "Twilight" where Earth has been destroyed and Enterprise is leading a rag tag fugitive fleet to Ceti Alpha V (probably not the best choice), I believe one of the ships in that convoy is the main ship from Space 1999. Please correct me if I'm mistaken.

But I don't recalling seeing any of them on BSG.

BTW CAPT, I think I found your crossover ship your thinking about, it's not from Space:1999, but from the movie Silent Running:
