Currently, the Holodeck Server is down. We are aware of this issue and currently working on bringing the server back online as soon as possible. Please keep an eye on this page for any updates and notices on when Holodeck is available again.
Please sort it Cryptic. I joined when you went free to play and I can tell you this isn't doing you any favors. I've been thrown out of this game so many times in about 2 weeks it's unreal.
Maybe it's just me amongst the thousands of STO players/members....but it sure seems like the strong possibility exists to justify beefing up the servers, or maybe hiring some motivated IT personnel.

Well, if they've gained a massive influx of players due to F2P then they should invest in another server or extend the current one. Lets face it, C-store isn't exactly cheap and with the new key system they can't be shy of a few bob.

This isnt a new trend for Cryptic really. They refuse to upgrade the servers and we the players get the shaft for it, since Cryptic would rather add another room to the golden money palace rather than make the game playable.
*sigh* I'm sorry, people. I do believe this is my fault. I came back to the game. Played a few hours and thought "Hey, I'll resub". And less than 5 minutes after that the server died on us. I'm sure it has to be my karma that just bit us all in the posterior.

i agree. It feels like the server doesn't have enough cpu and ram to process all the new players.
Ever since STO went F2P and all the new players came the server has been feeling very laggy to me which indicates that the hardware resources are not fast enough to handle all the new stuff and players.
I wonder if "upgrading the servers" isn't what we think it is. We know nothing about this game's architecture. I wonder if some of this has to do with the code the game is running as opposed to the server it runs on.

It went down for 8 hours when I got my LTS. Clearly this is evidence that Cryptic doesn't want our money!
I'd be interested to know exactly what brought the servers down (IT geek, can't help it! :P).
No worries, just stay calm and do your best to get everything running again as I'm sure you will. Ignore the people who will start bashing their fists on the table and whining, they probably have no idea what it's like to work in a datacentre/NOC when things go wrong! Not a pleasant experience!
Glad to know absolutely nothing has changed since the last FE release last year. Also glad to know that mine and every other sub's $15/month has not gone towards hardware upgrades for this game.
Whenever you guys release an FE, we do this. Every. Single. Time.
Get your house in order already! There's no excuse at all for this issue to persist as long as it has!

They've stated they're working on doing both. These past two weekends with the two year anniversary event (with the 'free' Oddessey grant mission); and this weekend with the new FE series debut have probably brought many more players to STO than its had previously That said, it is annoying when a server crash happens.

It's more the network. It's a well-known fact in the internet world that the ISP they use is complete ****. Well, that and inefficient, buggy network code that breaks if you so much as poke it.

Agreed. This isn't exactly the first online game i've played, free or otherwise & never have I experienced this many server crashes/maintenace cycles until now. It's, pardon my french, **** poor.
Well I have an hour to do the new FE on 3 characters...2 runs per character because the cheap FE doesn't give credit the first time...after this I have 0 time for the rest of the week....
...so how long do the special rewards for this FE stay?

I'm no IT geek but I'd still like to know what brought it and the website down and so suddenly too.
Cryptic must be struggling with the decision about whether or not they should spend money on expanding their server capacity (which I think they can scale down later when popularity dies off).
Of course, doing that would reduce the profit for their parent company, PW.
Such a difficult decision.... money? customer? profit? fans? sigh...............

You guys need to chill out... You aren't going to die because you're missing half an hour of precious playtime. With the HUGE increase in players here I'm sure it will take a bit of time for them to properly evaluate the amount of server resources required to accommodate this.

Congratulations for the game anyway. A very fun universe... when it works lol.

.... why do i ask anyway, wont get an anwser anyway
As the TOS basically absolves Cryptic of anything and everything, just fess up as to what the fault is.
Some honesty would be pleasant for once.

Look forward to returning to the game ASAP.
