Borg Encounters

So, I've played close to a dozen of the 'Red Alert' Borg invasions, and I've only cleared one. I'm able to kill the 4 Cube fleets easily enough, but that Command Ship just refuses to die. I have killed it once, so I know it's possible, but is there any trick to it?

I'm flying a Fleet Escort with DHCs + Quantum Torpedoes + Quantum Mines. DPS isn't a problem, it's the regen probes and the Command ship's array of insta-kill moves that always stall us long enough to run out of time.

So, are there any tricks or tips that the community would care to share? Right now my strategy is to kill the regen probes then pound one shield face with all of my guns. Is that all there is to it, or am I missing some vital piece of magic?

Something else I noticed is that the rewards are downright pitiful. A green item or a small amount of Dilithium? Seriously, what kind of compensation is that? The XP is good, but I want some more tangible rewards!

Anybody? Dragged this up from page five. I won't bump again, but I'd appreciate some crack tips.

I've tried a number of these now.

75% of the time I arrive at an empty map with a lot of other confused looking ships and my First Officer telling me, "D'oh! We suck."

20% of the time there's an Admiral in their glory build flying around blowing up cubes while the rest of us mid-levelers are puttering around behind them going "Pew! Pew! Pew!" We usually win these ones.

The remaining 5% is everyone going, "Sheesh, there's no Admiral in their glory build for us to tag along with. Bye."

The first one bugs me because I assume the Borg assimilated whoever it was that was supposed to turn off the distress call. But that doesn't bug as much as the Borg probes that seem to be spawn camping.

My personal experience both as a mid level and now as a Vice Admiral.

    Mid Level:
Kill off all the regen probes then position 2 at each end of the Command vessel at a distance of 8k preferably off to one side Tthe last person wil be an escort parked amidships. 1 Player at each end will have to take care of the Escort by healing shields or hull. The other player will be looking out for the plasma weapon attacks.

Everyone shoot at the borg. At random intervals the borg will launch a plasma weapon or 2, one at each end. SHOOT IT! and all will be well. The Borg will probably be shooting at the DPS escort so cruisers/science ships will have to keep healing it.

At a certain hp level the borg will spawn 1 probe, a tractor probe and a regen probe. stop shooting the command ship and kill, in this order, the regen followed by the probe and finally the tractor probe. ( the tractor probe is last because you aren't moving so what's the point.)

Shoot borg again. It may repeat the probe spewing once or twice but just do this and you'll win.

Remember your position and if killed, return to your position immediately after respawning.
The plasma weapon is the borg's main onehit kill shot so kill it quick.

    Vice Admiral.
Kill fleet with Big *** Cruiser
Position amidships. Shoot probes then borg with Big *** Cruiser in autofire mode
Use Fire At Will / Torpedo Spread / Spread Shot when borg uses Plasma Weapon
    Heal allies when you can
Use Fire At Will / Torpedo Spread / Spread Shot when borg spawns more probes.
    Heal allies when you can
    WIN !!
    ....
Profit! (Break down rewards for more Energy Credits)
