This game's engine is essentially the same engine as Champions Online, and in Champions Online players had the ability to change the colors of their Powers to whatever color they wanted, so my question here is...why dont we have the ability to change the color of our energy weapons? I personally would love to use Antiproton Ship weapons but the reason i dont is because I do not like their coloring, the red color of the beam doesnt suit me at all, please Cryptic could you give us the option to alter our beam colors please? Just the color would be enough for me, I can deal with the graphical design of the beam just not its color.
Once upon a time we were able to. That was a long time ago but if I remember right it was CBS' doing, they were adamant that phasers should be phaser-coloured, disruptors should be disruptor coloured etc.
From what I hear the dev who designed the plus resist shields threw a temper tantrum because people weren't using shields the way he wanted to and blamed the reason people could change beam colors at will.
Take that with a grain of salt though, I heard that from someone who was laid off shortly after release. I still think it makes for a good story.
I dont know, maybe its because i feel that the game's features and what not should be descided by THE PLAYERS? We are the ones who have to deal with what the game offers, if we want something as an added feature like the freedom to control what color beam our weapons shoot, then we should have that option, we all know that would improve the game cause people would have more free reign over their character and ships, what is there to lose? Nothing thats what.

CBS does indeed have a say in what happens. Thast why the much sought-after Vesta class isn't in game, because CBS are umming and ahhing about it and not saying anything conclusive.
They have a say because they're supposed to protect the IP, whether they're doing a good job is another matter entirely.

That wasn't on purpose. That was a bug. CBS had nothing to do with that. I remember it quite vividly, too. Pink phasers everywhere.
if im not mistaken CBS no longer has any say in what happens, but beside, there will still be plenty of people who use the original color.
You are indeed incredibly mistaken. CBS still has a very tight hold as to what happens in this game, especially concerning what is represented in this game concerning the IP. They are very particular about this property.

Again, mistaken. CBS is trying to protect the IP's integrity to some degree. It's why we don't have T5 Connie's, for example.
And it's not up to the players to decide what features are or are not in the game. We're not the game developers, we are the players. We can voice our opinions on a particular subject or feature, but ultimately, such decisions are up to the developers.
Frankly, a lot of players feel they should have more say-so over what is and isn't in a game that they like to play, but not all players are game developers, or versed in what it takes to actually make a game (another subject they feel they are knowledgeable about even without the requisite studies).
IP= Intellectual Property. CBS owns Star Trek, the franchise, so they are the ultimate say-so in matters of where it goes. They have also taken a keen interest in what is represented in STO, and there is a process that Cryptic has to go through to add certain things, like ships and characters, into the game.

CBS recently greenlit the Vesta to be added to the game. Check Mark Radermaker's Twitter! He's quite pleased.

We were able to, but, we weren't supposed to, and CBS had nothing to do with it. Cryptic accidentally left some code in that some people discovered. When you typed the code in the chat box it would change the color of your beam weapons. There was no customization screen like changing details on your uniform. It was unofficial and wasn't working as intended. That was the primary reason it was removed. The other reason it was removed was because people had no way of telling what weapon you were using so they couldn't equip themselves for a proper defense.
Cryptic will not allow us to change the color of the weapons.

Hahaha, people had no way of telling what the weapon was? Last i checked you wont know what weapon they are using till they actually use it on you, by then its to late you cant defend yourself from it until you die and respawn and are out of combat.

But then you can change equipment as needed then. I don't PvP so I don't care. If someone wants to shoot some neon pink disrupters, that is fine by me.

Exactly, why cant the changed colors be applicable to PvE and the original colors of the weapons be restored when in a PvP setting? This kind of programming is not impossible nor hard and i wont be told otherwise, there are ways to make this work, they just need to be pursued

This was already explained. CBS owns the IP, and therefore can say what is and is not allowed. Pink phasers are not allowed. It has nothing to do with programming.

Because it wouldn't be canon either. People play this game because it's a Star Trek game. If you want different colors, go mod your copy of Bridge Commander or something.
We've been down this path over and over since back then. This is one thing Cryptic won't change or listen to. PvP was one of the listed reasons. CBS was another. It was even said that they WANTED the weaponry to be as close to cannon as they could get.
When we were able to do this, Stormshade stated it was a bug, and it was squashed in record time.
This has been addressed so many times that you'd be lucky to get a response from Cryptic over it. I would love to see it again too, but it's just not in the cards nor is it on the table, and it likely won't ever be, regardless of the support behind it.
Changing the colors or your beam's and torp's is one thing I really hope they never allow again. I was horrified by it in the Beta, I thought to myself "what the hell are they turning Star Trek into"? Then I heard that it was just a bug and it was squashed.

What?
Why shoud CBS have no say any more?
