yea last part i skewed.
anyway,
thre are 5 compromises,
a device which launches the fighters is a grand idea, but couple them with the fact you only need 3 and you can outfit said 3 fighters to actualy do damage is better.
You know, the way I see it, it is Star Trek Fans saying No to a Federation Carrier and then there are the, NOT so Star Trek fans asking for one; you know, those folks who just like space combat games more than the IP itself.
My question then is, who, in the long run is going to be more loyal to the game? I think it is people like me, who have been here since BETA, and bought more than half of the C-Store Federation ships, that is going to want to stay the really long haul! You know, those guys like me who have enjoyed Star Trek from the late 1980s until the recent release of the JJ Abrams movie. I even have all three Enterprise models on my bookshelf of the Constitution, one Galaxy and even a rare, Enterprise B. Anyway
As far as a minor/major races of the Federation member races being allowed to have fighter craft; Im all for it! The Andorians would be ideal for deploying manned fighter support craft. However, I am completely against having the Federation Deploy an aircraft Carrier style vessel when there are other options that are more in line with the Federations paradigm on starship design. Ill quickly list a few.
The Federation could use a new Strike Cruiser class: these would be re-fit cruisers and/or heavy Escorts that would be Tactical heavy. A Strike cruiser would have 5 fore-weapons and three aft. Two of the Fore-weapons would be restricted to specialized torpedo launchers that reduce the recharge time on torpedo launchers and be restricted to only beam weapons, no cannons. A Strike Cruiser would be specialized in design to take out big targets; such as Borg Cubes, whereas beam and energy weapons are less effective in combating these types of huge threats. It also makes more sense for the Federation to look at using larger payloads rather than using the smaller payloads that fighters and drones provide, as the Federation is being threatened by larger threats and whereas the threat of a Klingon Carrier is not the fighters, but the carrier itself, and its ability to support the squadron.
The Second clever option would use pets in a neat way that would resemble the federation much better than an actual carrier. That would be a fleet Admirals Ship. I believe, that this ship could be allowed to have up to three smaller Tier I, pet vessels, that it can give commands too much like the Klingon Carrier. However, the difference would be that the fleet Admirals ship would still only be a cruiser type and the pets would have a very long cool-down timer. The pets should also have a warp in animation when entering the battle.

i do like your strike cruiser idea, kind of like a torpedo boat, although that has nothing to do with making carrier fans happy it would be a nice addition IMO. Also, i dont much like the second option, and it wouldnt do any good to please any carrier fans really, for most who want a carrier its not about just having combat pets, its about having a carrier that launches them. I think a carrier would fit the IP just fine, and although i havent been here straight since beta i was here at beta and at launch and then recently came back, and i know a lot of people who want carriers that are right into star trek, have like every season of every show. But i think we can all agree that no one is going to agree on this. BTW make a new thread about your strike cruiser thing i love that idea.

You may run with my idea if you wish> And to be honest, I took the idea from a not so well know Star Trek game.....
BTW, the beauty of a "Strike Cruiser" due to its refit nature, in peacetime it easily is again able to be molded back into the primary mission of Starfleet... to seek out new worlds and new civilizations and fist fight them, then become friends....
As far as the Federation Faction players wanting a Carrier that is Starfleet, I cringe at the thought of it! I wish the Federation players wanting one would compromise on it being of a minor/major member race and not a Starfleet vessel.

I play Klingon and love playing the carrier, but I think it would be nice if I could enjoy playing the Fed side also. For example, I do not think there is a Fed ship that can lock down the elite Tac cube like a Klingon carrier can.

Like? Are they on Memory Alpha wiki? If so, let's see them.
BTW, are you going to use my idea on a new thread? I think people are sick of my idea's
well it seems i will probably get trolled a lot if i start it due to certain people but if you dont start one i may right out some ideas and such and start one later, also they arent on the wiki, mostly fan fiction stuff but i will link you to my two favourites. http://www.shipschematics.net/startrek/images/federation/heavycarrier_napoleon_ref2.jpg
I, for one, look forward to getting a Fed carrier. I know that Cryptic likes it when I spend money with them.. And Cryptic knows I can not give them money for a Fed carrier if they do not make one.. So hopefully Cryptic will help make this a win-win, I get a Fed carrier and they get some money from me.. And most likely other people as well.
Personally, out of the Full Carrier, Cruiser-Carrier, and Corvette Support Ship ideas I had back here.. I hope they put in a Corvette Support Ship type vessel.
So, Cryptic, I have my money in hand, waving it at you, pleading with you to give me a reason to hand it to you.. Please do not let me down by not trading my money for a Fed carrier.
Just like one canon monger leaving won't effect cryptics likelyhood of implementing something, one carrier lover saying they'll fork over money isn't going to effect it either

True, but Cryptic would be wise to find a middle ground to keep the one and get money out of the other.....

Hence, I believe, the purpose of the thread
But see, some of the most ridiculous posts have been said here decrying how someone wants to wreck someone else's fun. For instance, someone said how not having fed carriers is mean to those who want them. Well, the supporters for the ship type are already here, and obviously there are no fed carriers... atm... so there's nothing being taken away, and your fun isn't diminished any more by someone saying they like the game as is, on this point.
Am I the only one kinda tired of posts that try to personally attack others when they are shown to be wrong? Attack the idea, not the person people. Earlier in the thread there was some really sad posts to attack Katic, and thats just not cool.
Neither side can conclusively show that they have a majority support, and to be honest that doesn't matter anyway, this game isn't a democracy. So how about we all just hack and slash out a compromise on whether or not carriers for feds should be in the game, and if so what form they should take. There's plenty of ideas here.
Honestly, I view the MVAM abilities as being the same as a carriers, and see no real need for another ship type that isn't unique. A side weapon equipped ship that has a definitive purpose would be great (like some of the destroyer ideas) but I don't see a purpose for a carrier that the current fed cruisers can't do.

well seeing as Katic was attacking everyone, i dont find that sad at all, but to what you said about cruisers doing what carriers can, i dont think so at all, they are two very different ship types, i think carries do have a place, but that is my opinion, it has been proven in this thread that carriers would not be useless, but really its just a debate now of why should we have or not have them and the whole think about the KDF being unique.
With the new patches in game, Fighters have become harder to hit and they do some decent damage.
so Im thinking we improve the Fighter part of the carrier first, for one thing the Lag atributed to PvP is too much, so we should pack a big punch in a little bit of fighters.
again my previous idea, take the same template of our current fighters and limit the carriers to 3, just put the same equipment as you would for the ones you control into the one the "platform" launches and we get a simple damage dealing pet launcher.
however due to the Federation not fitting the kind of genre as a carrier race, something that isnt of the federation should be the template. not the Kazon...though i love their ships, but something that is neutral to both sides of KDF and Federation. let it be purchaseable by both sides and offer more than just the carrier, give it a backstory and a history that way it isnt so hollow.

well the KDF already has carriers however atleast make it a carrier of another race within the federation, also instead of putting your own weapons in and then having them be destroyed, possibly have it like when you have to repair your ship, like with components.
well seeing as Katic was attacking everyone, i dont find that sad at all

I would like to help you out with some advice here and inform you that if you see a user breaking the forum rules that the appropriate action is:
Not to reply to them; simply report them
Not to discuss their actions
Not to insult them or pick fights with them
Simply to ignore them and carry on posting on topic
I've been watching this thread for quite some time now and have hoped that you would keep it a little more civilised; no more name calling; no more insults; less off-topic chat and more constructive discussion on the topic the thread was created for and I would like you all to do this please (this post isn't just aimed at you xixboneheadxix but everyone posting in here).
Put quite simply if you can't do what I'm asking here this thread will have to be closed down and I don't want to discourage you from discussing this topic; in fact I've been working on a transcript of CaptainGeko's interview with Priority One recently, which is the interview he talks about the Caitian carrier as well as other ships, so when I've finished that I'll post it up and link you to it.
Cheers,
Alecto

I will definitely read through those transcripts once you have them completed .
To put it another way, a purely hard canon fan, who has only ever watched the shows and movies, should be able to read the Path to 2409, and jump into STO and experience and understand everything that's going on without having to go reference other soft canon materials to understand whats going on. If we start basing things on the soft canon, that person is going to get really confused, really quickly.
Well from soft-canon as you call it in the path to 2409
The previous president of the federation was created in a comic and became president in the books
Ro working on DS9 is from the DS9 relaunch novels
the Imperial Romulan State is from the books
Data coming back from the dead from a comic
As is the Narada as a Borg hybrid ship and the events of the destruction of Romulus

I'm looking forward to reading that transcript! I also, am much more a fan of a minor/major member races getting a Carrier type of ship rather than Starfleet. I think it is a fair compromise for those on both sides of the argument.
I actually have a Vulcan character with an all Vulcan Bridge Crew and will be working next on having all Vulcan Duty Officers. Point in case however, I really enjoy having that little support ship even though I think I should be able to equip a plasma beam weapon on it instead of that silly slow firing plasma turret that seems worse if not the same as an automated defense turret. So I understand the attraction of having support ships as it gives you the feeling of being a squadron, taskforce or fleet commander.

I too am interested in that transcript. Thank you, Alecto!

Well, to be fair, that comic is fairly close to canon, seeing as how it was made for the newest of the movies. I can't remember if it was endorsed by paramount or not though.
So, i'm on board just making fighters console items.
First though, and very importantly, something must be done about the lag caused by them. They lag STF's and PvP. So if they must be put it, the dev's should do everything imaginable to get that lag down.
KDF Raiders, Raptors, Battle Cruisers, and a Carrier.
Nausicaan Destroyers.
Gorn Science Vessels.
Orion Carriers.
Fek'Ihri Carrier.
Fed has:
Fed Cruisers, Escorts, and Science Vessels.
Vulcan Science Vessel.
Were the Feds to get a Carrier... they would still be behind in regard to Raiders and Destroyers.
Ask for the quid pro quo after the Feds are actually asking for more than what the KDF has...
The KDF has less vessel over all just more types. The feds have more vessels over all spread across three classes and what Hybrids they posses.
Raptors are the KDF escorts, the only difference is the name Raptor.
So what are we KDF getting for still being less in total vessel choices overall and losing one of our choices to the feds?
KDF Raiders 6
Raptors 6
Battle Cruisers 7
voQ Carrier 1
Orion Flight Deck Cruisers 3
Fek'Ihri Carrier 1
Nausicaan Destroyers. 3
Gorn Science Vessels 3
shuttles/light craft 3 total 33 vessels of the line
Fed Cruisers 14
Escorts 11
Science Vessels. 12
shuttles/ light craft 9 total 46 vessels of the line
KDF Raiders 6
Raptors 6
Battle Cruisers 7
voQ Carrier 1
Orion Flight Deck Cruisers 3
Fek'Ihri Carrier 1
Nausicaan Destroyers. 3
Gorn Science Vessels 3
shuttles/light craft 3 total 33 vessels of the line
Fed Cruisers 14
Escorts 11
Science Vessels. 12
shuttles/ light craft 9 total 46 vessels of the line
SO how are you behind the KDF?
This is why playing Fed is boring. The list is worse if you are just looking at T5. Feds do not have the variety the Klingon's have. I think it is sad that Feds have the least variety when they are supposed to be the faction that symbolizes diversity.

LMAO, thats the silliest thing I've heard of - The feds have no diversity. lol
They have diversity running out thier ears - they just don't have a carrier class.

isn't enough for you to find pleasure in playing fed? This list seems to cover everything that we seen the Federation field in the shows with some that they never did, as well.
The Feds have plenty of Diversity.
LMAO, thats the silliest thing I've heard of - The feds have no diversity. lol

I disagree. At tier 5 Klingons have way more choices.
*Edit* several versions of the same ship is not what I am talking about. And shuttles are not ships of the line.
The feds have so many T5 varients that the dev in charge of making the load outs has apparently said he's run out of ideas (used as a reason why the Ambassador is not here yet). So, ya, I'm a fed player, but I call BS on them having less variety at end game.
really? we do? All 6 Options over the Feds 6 options?
edit: Yes, shuttles are ships of the line as you have missions that call only for shuttles to completye them. Or did you somehow play the last FE in your Cruiser/Escort/Science Vessel? Did you not like your plethora of choices of shuttles for it?
edit: Several versions of the same ship is not what you are talking about? Then the Akira need not be made or the New Orleans or any vessel for the feds that can still be considered just a variation of existing vessels.
Well, to be fair, that comic is fairly close to canon, seeing as how it was made for the newest of the movies. I can't remember if it was endorsed by paramount or not though.
My gosh, generalizations, spam, insults and all sorts of bad behavior and bad arguments are rampant. I am a Trek fan. I own every episode of every series and film on dvd or blu-ray. I've played since beta. I own every tier 5 ship and almost every other cstore ship. And I want a Fed carrier. I don't care if it's canon from sources that took place decades before the game. This is 2409, and the Feds are at war with practically everybody. We're at war with literally dozens of species. That isn't canon by a long shot, but we got over it.
Geko said he wanted to make a Caitain carrier. Nobody has seen a Caitian ship in the canon, and it's decades after the last prime universe film, so if they want to make one I'll break out my wallet and buy one. It's pretty much that simple. Some people don't want one. Some people do. Without a poll we wont know which is the majority, but hey, majority doesn't rule in this game anyway. The angriest people haven't stopped playing if they're posting over and over in this thread, so a Fed carrier probably wont cost STO more than one or two players at most, and would make a lot of money. That is also just that simple.
I hope they make a Fed carrier. It seems odd to post to a threadnaught like this and say "in before lock" but I have a feeling that's just what I've done.
Just like one canon monger leaving won't effect cryptics likelyhood of implementing something, one carrier lover saying they'll fork over money isn't going to effect it either
I can only speak for myself when I say that I would prefer some money to no money. Perhaps others are different and would prefer not to make or have money... I do not know..
Cryptic creating a Fed carrier for sale would for sure bring in some money (for sure being I know I would purchase one).
Cryptic not creating a Fed carrier for sale would bring in zero dollars from trying to sell it (as we can not purchase somenthing not available for sale). Nobody here can quantify if not selling it would bring in more customers or not with actual evidence, as opposed to their made-up imagination, as nobody here has official internal sales figures.

A side weapon equipped ship that has a definitive purpose would be great (like some of the destroyer ideas) but I don't see a purpose for a carrier that the current fed cruisers can't do.
well seeing as Katic was attacking everyone, i dont find that sad at all, but to what you said about cruisers doing what carriers can, i dont think so at all, they are two very different ship types, i think carries do have a place, but that is my opinion, it has been proven in this thread that carriers would not be useless, but really its just a debate now of why should we have or not have them and the whole think about the KDF being unique.
so Im thinking we improve the Fighter part of the carrier first, for one thing the Lag atributed to PvP is too much, so we should pack a big punch in a little bit of fighters.
again my previous idea, take the same template of our current fighters and limit the carriers to 3, just put the same equipment as you would for the ones you control into the one the "platform" launches and we get a simple damage dealing pet launcher.
however due to the Federation not fitting the kind of genre as a carrier race, something that isnt of the federation should be the template. not the Kazon...though i love their ships, but something that is neutral to both sides of KDF and Federation. let it be purchaseable by both sides and offer more than just the carrier, give it a backstory and a history that way it isnt so hollow.
well the KDF already has carriers however atleast make it a carrier of another race within the federation, also instead of putting your own weapons in and then having them be destroyed, possibly have it like when you have to repair your ship, like with components.
I would like to help you out with some advice here and inform you that if you see a user breaking the forum rules that the appropriate action is:
Cheers,
Alecto

I will definitely read through those transcripts once you have them completed
Well from soft-canon as you call it in the path to 2409
I'm looking forward to reading that transcript!
The KDF has less vessel over all just more types. The feds have more vessels over all spread across three classes and what Hybrids they posses.
Raptors are the KDF escorts, the only difference is the name Raptor.
So what are we KDF getting for still being less in total vessel choices overall and losing one of our choices to the feds?
KDF Raiders 6
Raptors 6
Battle Cruisers 7
voQ Carrier 1
Orion Flight Deck Cruisers 3
Fek'Ihri Carrier 1
Nausicaan Destroyers. 3
Gorn Science Vessels 3
shuttles/light craft 3 total 33 vessels of the line
Fed Cruisers 14
Escorts 11
Science Vessels. 12
shuttles/ light craft 9 total 46 vessels of the line
SO how are you behind the KDF?
This is why playing Fed is boring. The list is worse if you are just looking at T5. Feds do not have the variety the Klingon's have. I think it is sad that Feds have the least variety when they are supposed to be the faction that symbolizes diversity.
LMAO, thats the silliest thing I've heard of - The feds have no diversity. lol
They have diversity running out thier ears - they just don't have a carrier class.
Tier 1: Lieutenant (Fighters/Shuttles)
Type-8 Shuttlecraft

Tier 5: Vice Admiral

Multi-Vector Advanced Escort
Odyssey Star Cruiser
isn't enough for you to find pleasure in playing fed? This list seems to cover everything that we seen the Federation field in the shows with some that they never did, as well.
The Feds have plenty of Diversity.
I disagree. At tier 5 Klingons have way more choices.
*Edit* several versions of the same ship is not what I am talking about. And shuttles are not ships of the line.
Tier 5: Lieutenant General
B'rel Bird-of-Prey Retrofit
Varanus Fleet Support Vessel
Guramba Siege Destroyer
Marauder Patrol Cruiser
Kar'Fi Battle Carrier
Bortas Battle Cruiser
really?
The film maker said its not canon.
