An Unhappy Customer

Okay, so I'll jump right into this, and then explain a little about my frustration as I go... STO is free, and that's great. Obviously there are limitations for a free gaming experience though, and again, that is okay. I can fully expect and appreciate that the developers need some sort of cash flow.

I wasn't prepared to pay a monthly subscription ~ I never have, and I never will. I am however more than happy to pay for bonus material within said game, at least I would if I was happy with the content.
Captain Retrain Token

This grants a single character to one-time opportunity to 'wipe the slate clean' in terms of skills. This type of "token" is purchased at the account level, but is used by a single captain.

Note: This option does not respec bridge officers. A single captain can fully retrain once per token.
Now I don't know if this is just me, but this little token has a deceiving description. I started my game as an engineer (thinking this could be changed at a later date), and upon reading the profile description of this token thought to myself that this token is exactly what I was hoping for after I signed up. The ability to change from an engineer, to tactical or science. It isn't, and as such, it's 400 points (if not more, I can't remember the cost) that I now have no need, nor desire for. All because the description, I feel, wasn't descriptive enough.

Secondly:
Two Costume Slots

This one is for the fashionalists! If you want to flaunt your style without having to run to the tailor all the time, purchase additional costume slots!

Note: Purchase of this options adds two (2) costume slots to all characters on an account. Both Federation and Klingon characters may use this option.
Upon reading this, I was under the impression that this would provide each of my bridge crew members an additional two costume slots (as highlighted in red and bold). Unless I've missed something, this is not the case. After having purchased this little bonus, I found that only my main character was given an extra two costume slots (in addition to the three he already starts with). My other characters remain with just the single set. That's another 200 points wasted.

I want my points back.

The Retrain Token is very clear when it states "in terms of skills." Skills are not Classes, nor are they Traits or Races. They are Skills.

The Costume Slot could be a little clearer but, at the same time, BOFFs are not Characters. BOFFs are combat pets which grant your Character special abilities.

The comments have been made since the retrain token came out. However, it seems there is probably an issue with vocabulary vs descriptions. Skills is not the same as a class, a character is not the same as a bridge officer, a bridge officer is not the same as a duty officer, etc.

I am no native english speaker but even for me it's clear that Boffs are no characters. In all MMOs characters are the ones you create yourself.

If it were as clear as you suggest it is, the OP wouldn't have made that mistake.

The descriptions are perfectly adequate, really, if you pay due attention. As already said, "skills" does not mean "class" and how on earth anyone would think Bridge Officers could be classed as Characters I simply can't fathom. They're a mixture of NPCs/combat pets and not a Character.

    To the OP:
You really need to read and think about what you are reading. It's very clear to me, and not at all ambiguous.
Class is not a skill. NPC BOFF is not a Character.

Am I the only person that asks people in game about stuff like this when I first see it before buying?

Actually, as Cosmic_One said, both are very clear. Retrain specifically says it's for "skills" and neer once says it allows you to change classes. Costume Slots specifically says your "characters" not BOFFs.

Just because people make mistakes doesn't mean those descriptions weren't clear enough.

    Edit:
v OMFG, you think I'm part of the Cryptic defense force? Clearly you haven't read my previous posts! Also, I didn't get down on the OP, I called it a mistake, people make mistakes. (And the descriptions are still specific)

It's not that clear if new players, brought in through this amazing new free to play initiative that focuses primarily on new players, can make mistakes like this.

The guy's title reads "Unhappy Customer" ... and saying something to effect of "sorry bud, your loss" isn't going to do much to retain said unhappy customer.

Instead of defending Cryptic, some of you higher up in the command structure of the Cryptic Defense Force might want to consider your approach to these new, but unhappy, customers.

Customer Service and all that. Be nice to folks who encounter problems. They might stick around and help the game grow. Instead of blaming them and making them more unhappy.

Skills, Traits, Races, Classes. There is so much to remember, it's easily going to confuse some folk who aren't quite sure what they're buying.

I'm new to the whole MMO experience. I don't know what the other MMO games are like, I know someone has mentioned them elsewhere on this topic. I don't know if they follow a similar principle.

Yet, it doesn't specify anywhere that these items are not for BOFF's. Details need to be made clearer.

Like said, it isn't exactly very clear what said person is buying. One way for Cryptic to grab a hold of the money though. Fool people into thinking they're buying something they're not.

See above, I'm new to the MMO experience.

Why would someone not think a bridge officer a character? You customize them, you add to their personality, their appearance, their name. They're just as much a 'character' as your leading role.

I did read, and I did think. I thought something that wasn't. I still don't believe the details are well written.

I didn't think I needed to ask. I thought it was written out as I read it.

    Quoted for truth.

Thank You. Suffice to say, I'm hoping for a refund here (Dev's take notice please). You can take away my purchased tokens as they mean nothing to me (cause they aren't what I thought).

I wont be spending money on this game again until this has been rectified.
