Silenced for 24 hours again, for no reason

This has happened to me before, several times in the past, in fact just recently this happened. Again, wasn't spamming chat, but all the sudden was silenced for 24 hours in in-game chat. I found out by trying to type in the chat window and it said i've been silenced. I reported a ticket, but still, this is getting ridiculous. It's making it so I can't even chat in-game. It is too easy for people to ignore you or report for spam, and make a person silenced, for an undeserving ban on chat. I have a thread on this I posted in the past, its really becoming an issue.

So now, on the big day of the FE tomorrow, I'm not going to be able to chat at all in-game with fleet mates, or PM, or mail, or anything. So much for livestreaming with STOked, my plans now ruined with Jupiter Fleet.

/edit - Here's my other thread I found - http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=251218&highlight=chat+ban

    shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I think its a little excessive to be blocked from everything given how relatively easy it is to be reported - 5 reports or so right? It could be 4 alts of one guy or just 5 people who clicked your name by mistake because you were next to the real spammer.

If you were really not spamming or being obtuse in chat, then perhaps someone has it out for you.

We don't really know how many reports in how short a period of time it takes for the antispam measures to kick in.

That being said, that IS rather ridiculous at this point. :( I wonder if the barrier to being silenced is lowered (needs fewer people to report as spam) for people who have been reported and silenced before? That's... actually kinda how I would program such a system, but there's supposed to be safeguards against this sort of thing, and we were told that each autosilencing case is reviewed. If you were not hit with an infraction the last time, then... yeah, I got nothing. Twice is kinda ridiculous. :(

I submitted a ticket, funny thing is
Your question has been received. You should expect a response from us within 24 hours.

Well the ban will be over in 24 hours, at that point its pointless.

Yes, the ability to ban someone from chat is way to easy, it doesn't take much for either A) someone putting you on ignore or B) reporting you for spam, for you to be banned from chat. Like you mentioned, someone having it out for someone, the current system is way to easy for that someone to ban that person from chat. Regardless, I wasn't spamming, and I wasn't saying foul things. There was a fun xxxxx vs. xxxxx thing going on in chat at the time. I.e. Daleks vs. Borg, and we were all discussing how and who would win etc... I was offering my feedback like everyone else, perhaps someone just didn't like what I had to say. Again, way to easy to ban someone.

The spam reporting system has worked well in keeping ESD spam-free, but maybe the tolerances are set too low.

Hopefully, submitting the ticket will get a human being to look at the icket, and take appropriate action if they determine it was an abuse of the system. Uhm... is expressing doubt that this is actually done considered to be 'discussing moderation?' :(

I should report your last forum post for inappropriate material.. how anyone could even think the Daleks have ANYTHING on the Borg is beyond me. =P

I doubt you will get a reply within 24 hours, so I would suggest amending your ticket (if not already) to ask for an investigation to see if it is the same person reporting you, and/or if you have been flagged etc. Without requesting specifics they are very reasonable questions imo, which other game's operators can provide answers for - I wouldn't be surprised however, if such metrics were not available to the CS team.

I would also file the ticket under harassment, if there is such a category (I can not recall atm) - given its possible a pattern is developing around you. It may get a quicker response than CS Ticket #101 - QQ F2P Lockbox Halpo!

In the meantime, you could try communicating with teams via vivox, mumble or resort to firing one photon for yes, and two for No.

    This is madness.

It's obvious that the OP bears no ill intent towards anyone, he was simply doing his form of routine Fleet operations.

The powers that be should look into this matter urgently. What is stopping a griefer exploiting the 'silence' function to supress another fleet's chief communicator?

And silencing all forms of chat, both public and private? What kind of silly measure is that? Silence the Zone and Local chat, fine, that will stop all the spammers. Silencing - everything - ? Do spammers send PMs, infiltrate Fleet channels and join teams to spam? Common sense says no, only legitimate human players use these private channels!

Sorry if I'm getting worked up about this, but if I were banned/silenced wrongfully I NEED to inform fellow players and Fleet colleagues so that they can run events in my stead!

Technically yes, this is discussing moderation (even automated moderation is the same thing).

I feel for yah Doctor, I've been subject to the same thing :( However folks, even though it does normally take longer than 24 hours to get a ticket response I highly suggest people do! :)

The reason being? If a group of people are gunning for you constantly, it'll be very obvious after awhile that it's harassment and the GM's will act :) (Assuming you're not ACTUALLY spamming).

I know it's not comforting, but that's the best I can suggest at this time :(

But as I said in the first line this is discussion about moderation and as such has to be closed.
