I know the new FE starts tomorrow, but what is the story exactly on the 2800. I know it has something to do with DS9 but I never caught that series. I want to though.

you have to watch it. it comes from the sacrifice of angels which is the last part of a 7 part episode arc, of which was building for about 3 years. its one of the pivotal moments in the whole series and one of the most epic episodes in all of star trek.

Apparently, these 2800 are fugitives from justice.

What I heard was they got mad about the Federation's proposed tax on Ketracel White. So, they stole the Defiant and dumped a load of Tribbles into the Bajoran Wormhole.

At this point, the Federation Revenue Service dispatches Elliot Ness to seek out these rogue fugitives to bring them to justice for creating Prophet Tribbles.

The fugitives escape to the Los Angeles underground and fight as soldiers of fortune, until they feel the Federation Revenue Service is sufficiently distracted collecting shapeshifter taxes on the Undine, and they come out of hiding to protest.

    The end.

    The short version is this:

During the Dominion War, the Dominion captured Deep Space Nine and occupied it for several months while it tried to disarm a cloaked minefield which Starfleet had used to block access to the wormhole, thus preventing the Dominion from bringing troops from the Gamma Quadrant. They succeeded in bringing down the mines just as Starfleet launched a massive operation to retake the station. Only Sisko and the Defiant made it through to the station, and they flew directly into the wormhole in a suicide run to stop the 2800 Dominion ships en route to the Alpha Quadrant. Sisko convinced the Prophets/wormhole aliens to make the entire Dominion fleet disappear, thus saving Bajor (and the Alpha Quadrant). Nobody knows what happened to those 2800 ships.

As mentioned, the episode to watch is Sacrifice of Angels, though it might be tough to follow without watching a lot of other episodes.

Watch the DS9 episode in question, and then you'll know.
