A Thought on the Galor/Jem'Hadar Fighter/etc. and a Referral System

I get keeping them rare. I can even get doing it in a way that makes the average cost of obtaining them VERY expensive. You have people that will pay $200 for it? Why not. It's worth the very limit of what people will pay for it that doesn't cut into other profitibility (ie. number sold) and branding restrictions.

But a probability system is always going to leave some big spenders out in the cold.

So here's my suggestion:

- Let people gift Lifetime Subs.

- Introduce a comprehensive referral system for F2P. If your friend buys an LTS or you buy one for your friend, you get a choice of ONE rare grab bag ship per friend who goes LTS, single use.

- This can apply to any silver friend, regardless of whether they started an account without you or not.

I say let you buy one for your friend who has an existing account because the alternative is that rich people will spend money on dummy accounts when you might as well encourage them to buy an LTS for an existing member, which enhances the game community and retention if you have rich people buying friends and fleetmates LTSes.

If the concern is that the stipend for the free account would make that too valuable, make the requirement be BOTH an LTS for your friend and a certain number of purchased Cryptic Points on top of that.

There you go.

As John Hodgman would say: Crisis averted.

I don't think there's any fixing that. You got something for what you spent even if *I'M* personally not crazy about the setup and even if I've spent a lot of time and money going after the first rare ship myself because it's the only one with the stats and chance at a loadout I want. (I don't even care what the Jem'Hadar ship looks like. I kinda dig it and like the idea of being semi-unique but it's entirely about how it handles for me as it as the highest turnrate capability of any ship a Fed can fly.)

But they could at least fix things going forward.

Just make it a periodic promo for holidays like Christmas and First Contact Day.

Pay $300. Get an item that, once used, converts someone's account to Gold, a starter pack of the level scaling gear, a ship token for rare enemy faction ships, and... I dunno.. a Vet bridge officer token. All of which can be kept or traded.

So if you want your friend to get the Galor? Cool. If you want to give them the LTS and keep the Galor? Also cool.
