Is it worth it? I mean, ... i've been waiting since january for a "possible" sale, but it doesnt seem to come...
So Now im wondering, what would you do?
If you had the money to buy the full price and you love this game. And you do NOT want to subscribe each month.
1. Wait untill they really come up with a sale... I mean why bother subscribing if its F2P. But then you miss out the Gold Stuff.
2. Wait untill they actually offer something "better" with subscribing to Lifetime. For the moment Lifers doesnt seem to get alot...unless you already played for 2 years... but then back like 1...you miss out the gold stuff...
3. Just buy it and never be bothered again what could be or what if's. And enjoy the game to the fullest until you get fat (or fatter) and be bored of the game. And probably waste alot of money if a sale comes...But then again... Who cares?
4. leave STO and wait for something like Diablo 3, GW2, CS:GO, ....
5. Reason with yourself and just subscribe monthly...
Since its also not possible to predict if STO will be lasting another 3 Years...
What would you do? Right now...this day...this moment...
Thanks in advance for your input!
I have no regrets about buying my Lifetime sub from day 1.
However, with the way things are today, and STO's course at present, my choice would be option number 4.
STO is becoming too much like a las vegas casino for my taste, and too little Trek.
Most Gold features can be acquired from just paying for 1 month of subscription time. From what i've heard in-game, subscribing when you have reached the max level will retroactively give you all the bonuses of gold (extra character slot, extra inventory, etc) except for maybe the respec tokens.
Right now, the only real perks to being a lifer over a one-month subscriber is a perpetual stipend, the veteran rewards, the Liberated Borg species, and priority queuing forever. It may have been worth it to get it early on in the game's life, but Cryptic has made it clear that they really care more about the C-Store as their main source of income that subscriptions. Thus, they'll most likely never reduce the price of a lifetime sub nor add extra perks to being a gold member.
Oh and yes, go with #4, but there's no harm or loss in playing STO until they get released.
Have to concur with option 4. Gold perks are really only here for current lifetimers and there is no reason to buy a fresh one as money is better spent elsewhere. If the current trend of most new ships being 'box rewards only' continues, sector space could be quite empty sooner rather than later
No. Save your money. I'd rather buy a handful of good games with that kind of money rather than spend it on a LTS to a mediocre MMO hell bent on squeezing your wallet dry.
This game is as far from worth going lifetime as it gets. If I had the option of going back in time and kicking myself in the nuts for ever thinking lifetime was a good idea, I would
If you "love the game" why would the option be suscribe or leave ? This is not a subscription game, if you have money then buy what you need from the CP store.
Lifetime is legacy supported it's not meant for new players.
I would concur with option 4. I purchased the Lifetime membership right when it was first released. I would not encourage anyone to purchase it now because there is no real guarantee that you will get your money's worth or that the game will be here a month let alone two years from now. They have not created a team just to do FEs yet and there is only 2 seasons of FEs only going t be produced this year.
My suggestion is save your money for a non-MMO game.

1. I doubt there will be a sale anytime soon. They have only had 4 sales affecting lifetime subscriptions ever
* $239.99 (Pre-Order - Saturday, January 16 to 11:59 PM on Monday, February 1, 2010 PST/GMT8)
* $239.99 (One Year Anniversary - 6 AM on Tuesday, January 25 to 10 AM on Friday, February 4, 2011 PST/GMT8)
* $239.99 (Tax Relief Weekend - Thurdsay, April 14 through 10 AM on Monday, April 18, 2011 PST/GMT8)
* $199.99 (Season 5 Release - Thursday, December 1 to 10 AM on Monday, December 19, 2011 PDT/GMT7)
2. There may be boosts coming to Captain's Table but again, I don't expect any major changes in what LTS get over what is there now.
3. That's one option.
4. With STO being free-to-play, you never need to truly leave -- you can always go silver and play every day.
5. The major advantages of a lifetime subscription are similar to those that you'd get if you bought just one month, with the exception of the extra character slots, veteran rewards, and playable Borg.
The only thing you get from life time is a Borg captain, captains table and a blue name up here. Everything else can be be night in the cstore.
Oh and never paying for a gold level ever again.
Someone did the number crunching and I think they said that it takes about a year and a half for a Lts to pay for itself. Will this game be here 3 years from now. Yes I do believe it will be. A lot of people said the same thing about EQ back in 1999.
Have things shown up in game I don't like? Yes *looks at grab bags*. However these things are providing a steady stream of revenue so expect to see this game around as long as that cash keeps coming in.
Also take anything you hear in here with a grain of salt. Those of us who use this forum are a minority of the over all player base. (I know that includes me 8P). From my experience we few vocal ones tend to be a lot of doom and gloom types. The world is falling apart, rivers of blood, cats and dogs living together. Well you get the idea.
The main thing you have to decide is
1 do I like this game enough that in 3 years I might still be playing?
2 will I have enough characters that it would be cheaper to go Ltd than buy everything cstore or a month subscription to get the gold perks as you need them
3 if you buy the let's now when it finally does go on sale will it be cheap enough to make up for all the months in between not working towards your Ltd pay off.
My thoughts are Number 4, or if you need want some of the gold "perks" (term used loosely, as their are far to few perks) buy them ala carte and go from that point, if you only have a single character and have no plans for more, then you should make out better. Over all, i fully regret my LTS to this game, they've done thing to breech my trust, my faith and my belief in the Development team here.

I guess I'm going to hold off the Lifetime for now. Just play till my gold runs out...
