Curiosity about reaching level cap and new ships

When the game was strictly pay to play, when you reached your rank adjustments, it seems the game gave you a free ship choice. Now the game has Vice Admiral. But no ship. Is it my curious spin of it, or does it seem like shifting the game to f2p took out a working model of rank perks, and transferred any new ones beyond those in existence to the store after the f2p launch?

I ask this, because it would seem very predatory to do away with an established game behavior simply to make a buck off people who may already be paying to play still? Granted I've seen this done in LOTRO, so it would not surprise me at all if this were the case, but I am curious to know. The one thing it does is devalue the subscription. Don't even bring up the 400 c points. I think you get more than that if you use your sub fee and just buy points directly, the same way it works in LOTRO. Just seems like any game going f2p devalues long term clientele in favor of fly by night f2p people. Fast buck in favor of long term stability.

Any old timers out there care to chime in?

you get a VA ship token as a gold member when you hit the 600 Days Veteran. so only paying gold members can get a free VA ship the rest has to pay for it.

Seriously? 600 days? That's only 4 months short of two years. This game launched back in Feb of 2010 as evidenced by the recent celebration. A sub is a sub is a sub. Why be punitive towards new subscribers? None of the other ships granted required that level of game time commitment. In fact, that's the equivalent of asking people to pay 300 dollars to get a ship. It's outrageous. And the only people who would get it would be those who had been there right from the start prior to f2p. If that. And does it seem reasonable to conclude this game is going to LAST another 600 days from now?'

It's a blatant grab at wallets is what it is. Anyone paying a sub fee should avoid that trap and hit them in the wallet. If you are paying for a sub fee, that should be all you need to unlock ships at every tier. Making them a veteran item is pretty damn condescending to new people who sub up. What is the POINT of subbing then? May as well just play for free and avoid any kind of pvp due to being hobbled with a low tier ship. So much for end game then, right?

Game playability should not be sacrificed at the altar of money. And this would be convert is running the hell away.
