Put this in the bug forum but it's being buried by other stuff. So I fraps'd a quick video to show it off;

This only happens in the Promenade. If you watch the video the moment I move up to Operations, it goes away. It happens no where else in game. I've tried using my usb headset, a Razer Megaladon which has it's own soundcard / driver built in and my pc speakers, same sound issue occurs.
Ideas?

Sorry for the obnoxious noise in the meantime.

No worries it will go away in a few days...since you'll be deaf by then or they will have left.
Those crazy "Lava Spiders" and their music always causing a fuse
Tholian Opera? I like that. Nice.

Don't tease me any more! We've had so few glimpses of them, I'm not sure I can bear it. Bring 'em on!
Will tell him to report it.
Should of added it to here, we've been pushing it for 3 patches now.
i've been hearing this since i patched, and upgraded to 7.1 surround sound. been driving me crazy for weeks now.
thanks Tumorboy for looking into this!
Sounds like someone is playing a Vulcan funeral dirge over the intra-station comm system.
I am using creative 7.1 surround speakers
Realtek Alc888 sound board with driver version 6.0.1.6526
Total fail.
I'm using an Asus Xonar DX card, but not in GX mode, 5.1 surround is enabled on Windows 7 64 bit.
Could be barking up the wrong tree, but its worth a stab,
Those are headphones, if you run 'dxdiag' from the command line (type dxdiag) and check the 'sound 1' tab it should list the sound card next to 'Speakers' in brackets.
Also, the sound corrects when going into the shiypyard. I shall submit a ticket appropriately though.
Wrong. The G35 headset is both the sound card AND the headphones. It appears to the system as a USB sound card, because the processing hardware and DAC circuits are in the headphones themselves.
Thanks for correction, old school here
Although I still wonder if its related to non-Creative cards.
People with creative sound cards that do the same thing should also be experiencing the issue.
But I couldn't get it to go away when I turned off surround. I think it might have to do with USB headsets. But I have no way of testing it as my computer speakers are analog.
It's happening to me and I'm NOT using USB headphones, but speakers plugged into my computer. I do have USB headphones plugged in, but they're not being used.
I wonder if changing the setting has anything to do with it. This setting tells applications what kind of sound hardware you use, which may affect the processing. Most USB surround headsets will set the windows speaker settings to 7.1 surround. On my setup, when I use my surround headset it is set that way, but when I use my regular speakers, it is set to "stereo".
