DS9 Promenade Sound Glitch? (video inside)

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
Put this in the bug forum but it's being buried by other stuff. So I fraps'd a quick video to show it off;

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdq84o09QdU&feature=youtu.be

This only happens in the Promenade. If you watch the video the moment I move up to Operations, it goes away. It happens no where else in game. I've tried using my usb headset, a Razer Megaladon which has it's own soundcard / driver built in and my pc speakers, same sound issue occurs.

Ideas?

I've sent it off to the audio guys (you're not the first to report it) I'm sure they're working on figuring it out.

Sorry for the obnoxious noise in the meantime.

The Tholan Assembly, is currently on the station and they like to play their Opera really really loud.

No worries it will go away in a few days...since you'll be deaf by then or they will have left.

Those crazy "Lava Spiders" and their music always causing a fuse ;)

Don't tease me any more! We've had so few glimpses of them, I'm not sure I can bear it. Bring 'em on!

Sounds like someone is playing a Vulcan funeral dirge over the intra-station comm system.

I have the exact same issue, sounds like the re-verb is way to high in the stations ambient. I would equate this sound to having your head in a Tesla coil, this has been going on for quite a long time now and needs to be fixed. Just to see how badly this was effecting my speakers I popped one the grills off and the speaker is vibrating like mad! This has the potential of damaging my equipment. Cryptic needs to address/fix this issue. This sound problem only seems to be present in the outer ring area / promenade of DS9.

I am using creative 7.1 surround speakers
Realtek Alc888 sound board with driver version 6.0.1.6526

Sounds EXACTLY the same as what's happening on mine. Even turning all the sound volumes down under Game Menu->Options->Audio Tab.

Thanks to this wonderful "feature" I could barely hear most of the voiceovers in the new FE. Totally ruined the experience.

    Total fail.

I get it too, thought it was engineering work...lol.

I'm using an Asus Xonar DX card, but not in GX mode, 5.1 surround is enabled on Windows 7 64 bit.

Could be barking up the wrong tree, but its worth a stab,

Logitech G35 here, only way to avoid it is to mute all my audio

Those are headphones, if you run 'dxdiag' from the command line (type dxdiag) and check the 'sound 1' tab it should list the sound card next to 'Speakers' in brackets.

Also, the sound corrects when going into the shiypyard. I shall submit a ticket appropriately though.

Wrong. The G35 headset is both the sound card AND the headphones. It appears to the system as a USB sound card, because the processing hardware and DAC circuits are in the headphones themselves.

Thanks for correction, old school here :). So bang goes that theory, curious as to who is getting the issues vs those who aren't.

Although I still wonder if its related to non-Creative cards.

It has something to do with those whose surround sound setups. Vritually all the headset chips process the sound into surround sound, and it seems everyone who does this gets the buzz. When I use my regular desktop computer speakers on my onboard audio chipset (in standard stereo mode, not surround sound) I don't get any buzz. Using my USB soundcard that process surround sound to my headphones, I get the buzz- and so does everyone else who does similar.

People with creative sound cards that do the same thing should also be experiencing the issue.

But I couldn't get it to go away when I turned off surround. I think it might have to do with USB headsets. But I have no way of testing it as my computer speakers are analog.

It's happening to me and I'm NOT using USB headphones, but speakers plugged into my computer. I do have USB headphones plugged in, but they're not being used.

Here's the question. In your windows sound settings, do you have your speakers defined as stereo speakers or headphones? Quadraphonic? 5/6/7.1 surround sound?

I wonder if changing the setting has anything to do with it. This setting tells applications what kind of sound hardware you use, which may affect the processing. Most USB surround headsets will set the windows speaker settings to 7.1 surround. On my setup, when I use my surround headset it is set that way, but when I use my regular speakers, it is set to "stereo".
