We were told that it did not make sense for a lot of Fed captains to be flying bug ships, which is why it had to be rare. All the unsolicited spam we are receiving suggests the Galor is going to be much more common. So why does it make sense for more Fed captains to be flying Galors than bugs, especially when there were many more bugs in service during the Dom war?

Because when it comes to emphatically dumping on canon the slope is both steep and slippery?
Well unless someone collects hard data on the chance to win a galor, it's valid to assume that it has possibly the same droprate as the bug.... and that there are just much more participants in cryptics newest gamble.
It would be nice to hear something from the devs about this. I think this is a reasoned question. That is a LOT of Galors out there just by reading some of the logs.
"Slope" probably implies something of a slightly more gentle ride.
"Why am I in this handbasket, why are we in freefall, and why is it getting warmer?"

Would you believe that Cardassia is closer than the Gamma Quadrant? The Feds don't have to travel as far to the Used Ship Lot.
If a lot of players are picking up these rare ships ..... then there are a lot of C-Store purchases for the Keys right? I thought a lot of players were not really happy about buying them and were going to boycott them? Oh well

A lot may very well be. We don't have any reasonable numbers as to how many players are on vs. how many are opening boxes.
Also, the 'Gold' CardieCrates come unlocked, and from what we have been told have a higher chance of being a Galor.
Hey, thanks for that little bit of info. I did not know that (other side of the world at work right now)
No prob. It was something Heretic said. Not sure if Gold CCs drop but you can get them from (I think) the STF vendor in exchange for salvage.
Please be aware that I may be horribly mangling this information so please do not get any hopes up from what I am saying! I do howver remember that Heretic said the Gold CCs come unlocked.

First of all, the CDF (Cardassian Defense Forces) now work with the Federation apparently, the normal Cardassians are on good terms with the Federations, its the True Way rebels that are off doing their own crazy thiing. And I think Cardassia is trying to join the Federaiton, thus the CDF would be integrated into the Federations military...like the Vulcan ships, Andorians...whatever else.
ZOMG if Cryptic has a Borg Cube Mystery bag, i am ALL IN D00DZ!
That should be a 1500 day veteran reward for LTS. You'd only be able to use it with a Liberated Borg Officer.
Actually, that gives me an idea: Why not make species-specific ships to any player with grab bags, but freely available to characters from that species.
For example the Ferengi D'Kora could be added to a box you buy with GPL (key purchased in the c-store), but if you were a Ferengi you'd automatically get access to it at VA.
Cardassian could be added as a species, and the Galor could be added for them as VA. This would give an incentive to play other species.
I know it probably won't happen, but if it were up to me, it would.

Ive not kept an exact count but its something around 100 we have no idea how many boxes have been opened probably thousands so assuming that these are common is probably a bad assumption.
i got the galor on my first cardassian drop box. i used the last of my dilithium to buy the first key and when i saw it was the galor....well lets just say i freaked out and was happy then i saw all the noitices and thought eh not so special anymore....the fact i got it on the first opening should have sent a signal to me.

Heh. Actually, this is the first I've heard of Gold boxes. Have to admit I've been pretty head's down in work.
I think they wanted them rare to drive up demand. So they could charge through the nose for them. I really don't think CBS cares what we fly in STO as long as they get their cut. If they really cared they wouldn't allow things like the holo projectors. I won't be surprised at all if the same time next year we see the bug and the Galor again.
It wont be long before you see D'Deridexes and Ferengi Marauders and probably Borg cubes but CBS will want to keep them rare of coarse. I hope they can come up with better stories for them than the Galor.

Haven't seen any spam mails about it. Maybe because the Federation and the Cardies are allies now?
Canon wise, I can see that Galores would be far more plentiful since Cardassia is a "Protectorate" or vassal state of the Federation. The Feds agreed to take over all the defense of Cardassian space, and why not use their ships to do it. It might make the PR easier, who knows.
On the other hand, the Bugs are from a war now 30+ years ago. I doubt many of those ships would have survived the clean up operations.
Now all of that is just me speculating about how it would work in the universe. Clearly Cryptic has jumped off the deep end and the slope is now a full on free fall for the Cstore money. At least I have something to spend my stipend on, but no more then that.

We're still calling it a slope?
P.S. STILL giggling!
P.P.S. "Slope" probably implies something of a slightly more gentle ride.
"Why am I in this handbasket, why are we in freefall, and why is it getting warmer?"
Maybe then we can see
NAME@HANDLE HAS UNLOCKED JEM'HADAR ATTACK SHIP!!!
Are you suggesting perhaps that at this point we've left the slope behind and simply free falling into a chasm...?

*i'm* suggesting we have strapped on a jet-pack and lead boots and are infact pointed downward with the thrust control jammed to 'full.'
The thing that may be making the Galor more common are the Gold Lock Boxes from STFs which have a higher chance of getting the ship.

Nope, they still require a key to open.

That, and it's "visible" now as to when people are unlocking ships. I don't think the actual chance is any different.
Pssssh. Forget that. My Choctaw Borg loves her some Diamonds.

To encourage compulsive spenders they can get one too.
