Bring Back Atari ! (because someone had to say it)

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
After spending two days with concern and angst about gambling in STO , the "TRIBBLE@YYY won a Galor" commercials finally pushed me over the edge and suddenly I find it all quite amusing .
I am now fully expect Armek or Rebcca to stop mid-game and offer me something from the C-Store .

At the same time I feel a great swell of pity for some of Cryptic's employees .

Oh , and thanks for the 3 UI buttons to the c-store BTW !
They sure make me want to spend more ... !

HAHAHAAHHAHAHHHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA .
Ha !
:p

p.s. I flushed 3 Cardassian launch boxes down the toilet already -- looking forward to many more !

Outstupidifying the competition isn't the direction we should go. :)

I'm essentially only here for the next FE.

Heres to the end of STO; may it come quickly in as big (and as painful for Cryptic) a fireball as possible.

Just look at PW's portfolio. All their titles are one-off worthless money making machines. They don't understand what Star Trek is (other than some US-themed money making machine), no better than a 6-year old. They don't know how to run a franchise with history, culture, and depth. They do know how to ruin it.

It's all about money, they have reduced the franchise into nothing more than some code and gimmicks put together to make money.

Anybody who knows Star Trek would know in their heart that commercialization to such level is diametrically opposed to the fundamental spirit of Star Trek.

If this is what Free-to-Play means, it's no wonder "eastern" MMO's don't work here in the states. This is an insult to Star Trek and it's disgusting.

As a returning player I find the cash grabs revolting, they are completely cheapening the STO experience

Atari! they are why we have had no kdf stuff. PW gave Cryptic to hire programers and to finsh the kdf. so i say Atari can just stay a way

Hate to break it to you, the "eastern" MMO mentality actually is the type of thing Gene would approve of. There are plenty of well documented examples of Gene pimping out Star Trek to make money.

For a man who preached that money was evil, he sure did his hardest to have as much of it as possible. And if he was running this game, you would see the same thing.

We talk about that again when we have a finished KDF. See you in 2063.

Bringing back Atari would not solve anything as this game would no doubt go broke.

Whether Atari to PW, the F2P model would still be the same.

At least PW has a commitment to the game which Atari did not.

True , but under Atari they managed to make 3 FE's back to back and 4 STF's .
Under PW , they have yet to introduce commercials to the C-Store on ESD's outer space-doors .
That reminds me -- where are the C-STORE commercials on ESD ????
I needs me some of those !!!

Now now ... , this thread is meant as a mockery , and not something serious .

It's just my small response after the serious urge to get drunk that I got from today's STO "commercial / gambling free experience" .

Viva Las Vegas baby ! :D

    Here's to the 3 c-store buttons !

All I really want them to do is bring back the gameplay experience of this game they keep weaning away. The game seems to keep being cheapened, the experiences diminishing, the greediness of money-grabbing increasing.

YOU WILL BE ASSIMILATED ... but first ... , would you like to buy something from the c-store ? :)

Oh well , I guess I can always wait for the next Al Rivera to come to some podcast and tell us how "PW understands Cryptic's needs" . Whatever the hell that means after today ... .

Why not just sell it out to the owners of the Star Trek slot machine instead of Atari again? They would have more fun with it. Make it so you have to pay some cash every time you want to fire a weapon and whatever the results of the slots are determines rather you do good damage or not.

Semi-Seriously though: The Borg really need to advertise to us more. I mean why should you go through a whole STF or RA without a single Ad? No Advertisements on DS9 or ESD? What about in the First City? The Academies should be rife with them. For that matter where are our T-Shirts for our characters with C-Store logos and PWE logos? What about these for our ships? Heck, why can't our fleet have that as a logo?

Also there are far too few C-Store buttons on the launcher. It should basically send you there BEFORE it lets you actually load the game. I mean what is the point of playing today if you have not also bought something?

Why just 4? They have 6 sides and if you want to tank a Tact Cube you need to be on the top or bottom anyway. And it does not need to be just a still image. Imagine a little video playing on each side demonstrating the cool things you could have and instead of the normal Borg voice-over it would speak in the Borg voice and tell you about all the things you could have.

Their actions display beyond a shadow of a doubt that at least one of these two companies is infested with a grotesque amount of greed.

    :D

...I am soooooo torn... Soooo torn you hear me? The Comedic value of that would be so great it would basically make it worth it... That is profoundly sad... And funny.

The Rebecca line reminds me of Cortana "Oh... Sorry, were you trying to kill something?"

But how about this lovely one: If you fail the optional in an STF the Borg could be like "You have failed the Optional Objective. This is because some of your team does not have the best ships and consoles available. You should go to the C-Store and buy the proper equipment before taking on missions like these. We will add your financial distinctiveness to our own. Resistance is Futile!"

And other things like if they blow you up and you do not have a certain item you get a personal message saying: "We would not have one shot pwned you like the noob you are if you had bought [insert ship name here] and had it properly outfitted for this fight. If you do not want to be insulted like this again then you better visit the C-Store now. Resistance is Futile!"
