So haveing recently joined Star Trek Online since its gone free to play I find myself greatly enjoying the game, so much so that I honestly wish I had played it sooner . now with that out of the way
recently Cryptic announced the Cardassian Lock Boxes would be dropping in game and that there would be a chance for them to the Galor Class Cruiser my initial though was awsome one of my favorite ships from the Show. Then I read that they would require a 100C-Point key to open I was less enthoused about that as I am on a rather fixed income but hey I figure if they are going to be charging to open the boxes then the chance for good stuff would be rather good right after all if your going to charge money to open a random box then your not going to give out worthless items .
Well this morning was the patch I managed to get several boxes and so useing my limited funds I grabbed some c-points to buy keys figureing I would have a chance at a ship.
After 20 boxes and what little money I can set aside for things such as games I have gotten nothing
a stupid tribble or a uniforms I will never use and tons of absolutley worthless sheilds that wernt even fit for going on the exchange it was all in my opinion worthless garbage.
At the risk of sounding like a whiney child , where is my ship I dont want gama quandrant goods and vendor trash shields or crummy XP boosts I wanted a ship likly the only thing I would have spent C points on something in fact I know I would have spent C points on. This situation is neither fair nor just I play the game to have fun and was actualy considering starting a subscription but now all I can feel for this game is anger at swindling me out of my money with false hope and a crummy gambling game.
In the end I want my ship or a refund because this is not an acceptable situation
Yeah i gave them a try with 10 keys for two charactors but all i got was the same DS9 uniforms 4 times, a x rare sheild and consums.........which would not be so bad if i could at least send the DS9 uniforms to my other charactors.......but alas no.
Well money down the drain to say the least.....but we live and learn.:)
I hate to say, but at no point does it say anywhere that you would definitely get the ship. They've flat out said everywhere that the lock boxes are mentioned that it's a chance thing. If you buy a lottery ticket, there is no absolute assurance that you're going to win...
Sucks not to win the big prize, true, but, well, that's just how it goes, really.
They did this for Christmas too, for the Jem Hadar attack ship. You may have seen some of the signatures about them. It's a gamble, for all intents and purposes. They made a killing last time according to CaptainGecko during an interview with one of the podcasts. Expect more.

I dont buy lottery tickets for that very reason, however I would assume in a game witch is not a venue for gambling we would be afforded a chance to get the item we want.
Had the ship been put up on the c-store alone I would have absolutley purchased it but since this was my only method of getting said ship I took the plunge I was utterly unprepared for my chances to be zero, again I say I feel swindled and I'm relativly sure many others do as well this is in all honesty an unfair practice.

That's exactly what we pay for when we buy the keys though, a chance to obtain the ship.

yes I realize that, and had the items I did receive been even remotely acceptable I would not be so angry.
but I received 3 stacks of worthless batteries 2 stacks of worthless commodities a tribble a uniform bundle and a horta now thats 8 of 20 keys and what were the other 12 sheilds not even decent sheilds worth putting on the exchange and thats what has me angry I recieved 3 items that someone might have spent C-store points on I would not have but maybe someone might have and 17 items that were worthless world drops again an unacceptible waste
At least to me my budget is too limited and I would rather have spent those points on a ship something I did want and felt was worth the value but no my only hope was a random game of chance similiar to the rigged shell games this is a bait and switch and while some might have the money to throw at it this was my discressionary fund for an entire month.
Ingame events in MMOs are generally not worth the time and effort, what with the 'rewards' being worthless gimmicks. I stopped doing them years ago, though I did grab a free ship for my characters last weekend. I didn't waste my time with the Q mission though.
Actually the commodities can be used up on special rare DOFF(duty officer) missions in the Cardassian sector.
They are supposed to be pretty hard to get other-wise. So I hope you have kept at least those for the dilithium rewards from those mission.
As the others already mentioned, it´s a lottery. Plain and simple.
You aren´t entitled to win "the jackpot" on this one just like on the "real life" ones. At least you got "something", though I agree it´s a pretty weak showing for such a costly price.
IMO those damn keys should cost about 25-50 CP.
Cryptic just doesn´t seem to understand how utterly overpriced everything in their shop is. And why everybody is up in arms over it.
]which would not be so bad if i could at least send the DS9 uniforms to my other charactors.......but alas no.
So the DS9 costumes don't even come in a box that you can trade or put ont he exchange? They are character bound? If so, that is something that should be immedieatly fixed.

A box that when opened unlocks the Deep Space Nine Federation Costume Pack for the account. It can be opened by either Federation or Klingon, but the resulting costume parts are only usable by Federation characters on the account. The box can be traded before it is opened.
Of course, they're account wide unlocks, so there should be no need to send it to other characters on your account.

No I junked them, Duty officer missions dont intrest me actual game play does.
and yes had they not been 100cp each I likly wouldnt feel so cheated, but at 100 cp each I expect a better chance at something not garbage.
On a side note it doesnt help to hear when someone else gets a galor knowing I wont it just makes me angrier and angrier.
I'm sorry to break this to you, but this whole situation is your fault; not Cryptic's or PWE, but your own. This is a game of chance, just like a lottery or gambling. It's stated as a chance to receive these items quite clearly in the FAQ regarding the boxes. Furthermore, looking over the list of items rewarded, one can easily see that the ship is one of the most, if not the most, desirable item on the list. Therefore it is clearly both the 'hook' item to get people to play the game of chance, as well as the item most likely to have the least chance of being rewarded in order to get people to continue to play the game for as long as possible.
Moving along, as this is a game of chance, AND you are on a fixed or limited income, you really shouldn't even be considering playing something like this in the first place. You yourself have stated that you don't play the lottery, so why would you want to try doing the same here? For a ship...in a game? I'm afraid that in the end, you acted foolishly here, and to expect a refund or the ship, or anything else from this for that matter, isn't going to happen. No more than a gambler at Las Vegas who just lost all his money should expect or receive any refund for the money he just gambled away. So learn from your mistake, don't do it again, and don't try and shove the blame for your poor judgement on others; place it right where it belongs, on your own shoulders.
Sorry guys....
This is about you buying keys, it is has nothing to do with you winning a ship.
They are posting up the ship winners so you know that it is in a box, percentage wise. This is the same way a slot machine works and Vegas works.
0.0256% winning ships is still people winning ships.
Just do your part and buy more keys, go to the exchange and buy more boxes.
It is the Federation way....

This is not vegas and I wasnt putting quarters into the slots, it was my understanding the boxes would contain items of value at the very least items of use, after an expendeture of 1800 c-points I was left with jack squat nothing of use and nothing of value I would have been better off buying energy points from a farmer and then buying the ship off the exchange.

Well as you are a new player let me welcome you to the club of people who found out a bit to late that you have to read the detailed info on items in the C-Store before you buy.
My little error cost me no where near 1800 points. (I'm sorry I can't help but laugh when i think of wasting 20 bucks on this rip off. ) But I don't ever just buy something from the C-Store because it sounds neat as a result. If you check the forums, someone opened up 1000 boxes from the last scam on the test sever and found the odds of getting the ship to be half of one percent. They got 5 ships out of 1000 tries. I doubt the odds in this event are any better.
I'm not a fool--- hear that, cryptic? I pay 14.99/month already... give me the ship for free because the difference between gold and silver is laughable. You hear me, cryptic?
The system you described is working exactly as intended. Your'e seriously asking for a refund because you are not happy with what you won?
If the system is working as intended then cryptic needs to fix how they advertise, nowhere does it say that the chance is one in a few hundred in fact they feature the galor very prominently when they advertise the lock boxes and keys they do not feature a bunch of worthless vendor trash
And no I am not asking for a refund asking is done in the hopes of maybe getting something what I am doing is writing a letter to CBS and encouraging anyone else who feels swindled to write a letter as well reguarding this rather misleading use of one of their IP's.
I wish the boxes actually contained something better than 90% chance of getting an useless shield. Doesn't matter if it's pins, hats or other pointless "fun" items.
I'm not a fool--- hear that, cryptic? I pay 14.99/month already... give me the ship for free because the difference between gold and silver is laughable. You hear me, cryptic?
We're are practicing charity. Didn't you get the memo?

Sadly they wont take notice, like most other MMO's they rarely take notice of the paying public.
I am used to the Mystery Box from TF2. It is a blatant cash crab but so what. In STO they give you the chance to "buy" keys using the Dilithium Exchange so you don't actually have to spend a dime...but wait...They disabled the Dilithium Exchange so now you have to spend real money. That is shady for sure, when the Exchange and Mail take 10 minutes to register a command or notification and they are still standing there is no chance the D Exchange is lagging out.
I will continue to play the game
I will not play the Mystery Box game
I will be happy with the game
I will be a little put off of Cryptic
Point is, I don't like what's happening so I won't participate. Just don't be shady, say "these keys will only be for purchase with real money, dilithium exchange will be disabled"

Of course they're going to feature the ship! The ship is the desirable hook, the thing that draws people in. By putting up the ship, they show off the best item in the pack. It nevers says that you have a good chance of getting the ship, but it lets you know that you can get it. I'd be worried if they weren't featuring the ship as the main selling point!
Not too long ago, I was playing another game that went through something very similar. Packs with cool new items for a relatively low cost. People went, spent tons of money on the packs, and ended up with with what they deemed to be worthless items. The same thing happened there that is happening here: People realized how much they spent, didn't get much, and got mad. At the end of the day, however, it was their fault. They had gone and spent their money in hopes of getting something. It's not the company's fault if they didn't get anything.
I can understand wanting something and not getting it. However, the packs never said that you'd get the ship. They said that you had a chance, and that's what you bought: A chance at getting the ship.
I would not bother with the letter to CBS. They really don't care enough about the Star Trek IP anymore I am afraid - which is sad .
Ahh yah, I worded that improperly, I was and still am rather angry but no it wasnt my intention to try and demand my money back not saying I do not want it back but I spent it with full knowledge that it was being spent my anger stems from Cryptics misrepresentation of both the value of what the boxes contain and the odds of getting the ship.
Seeing as the large image advertising the keys shows the box the key and the galor yet nowhere does it show worthless vendor trash it is a bait and switch
Sadly, as of today I have a feeling I have not had since Star Wars Galaxies introduced their "New Game Experience"... I was an optimist after that, I was wrong to be one...
Even the people who are going to cheer-lead all this stuff can feel it, they just won't say it... For whatever reason...
They are erasing all of the great things they've done with the game and substantial gains they have made since launch by offsetting it with a creepy need to charge for everything in a way that I think they honestly seem to think isn't obvious...
I know you're in business to make money, but you are crossing the line into ridicule-land with all this money fishing, and as any now unemployed SWG dev will gladly tell you, you can't get your credibility back once it's gone, even if you do give the best make-up kiss ever...

The new commodities are indeed quite valuable, especially for thos utilising the DOFF system. Check the exchange in order to make a tidy profit; EC wise.
The main problem is that the drop rates on the boxes is far too high, my fleet has probably acquired several thousand of them since they started dropping.
Everybody eh? Have you actually asked everyone who plays the game?
To the OP. Unfortunately nothing stated you are guaranteed to get the Galor, best thing to do is either wait for a gold drop box or start saving up EC, prices of the ship are definitely dropping on the exchange.

If it costs 100 c-points, then it should contain an item with a minimum of an equal value to 100 c-points.
Fortunately I learned from the Holiday scam, and am not wasting my precious dilithium/c-points on this new scam.
