Why do KDF support drones look Romulan?

Why do the KDF's drones look like they were made by Romulans? Is this the intentional design or just cutting corners?

Those were the original design of both Fed and KDF drones. The Feds had their drones revamped but I never saw the KDF get a revamp.

They probably borrowed the technology from the Romulans around the time they borrowed cloaking technology.

I like to think of it like:
    Romulans with D7s in TOS
    and
Lord Kreug in a "Romulan" Bird of Prey in ST3.
    "Borrowed" tech.

    ...
Which poses the question: Why don't Klingon Support/Seeker drones try to ram and explode on a target? :D
