Could a sandbox sector work?

Can STO handle a sandbox section.... where players could play for different factions such as klingon empire, feds... all fleets from each faction would be allied etc.

Content would be player driven etc. fleets could be much more active, make it pvp zoned so pvp would be more interesting with relative risks/rewards.

(AS LEVELING UP IS SO EASY... maybe in this zone you can lose EXP if your ship is destroyed... so its a up and down thing. I know I wouldnt mind losing some exp if i got pwned... then had to get my exp back etc...) This is seperate idea

Could this work?

Is there a lot more feds than klinks? would this be an issue?

would this help player content? what do you think?

Peace,

Pulsar

I'm sure it would work but with Crypic being so small and the game currently transitioning into the F2P market you always have to ask the question: will this make crypic money. If yes, then they might add it soon(tm). If not, good luck, side projects rarely get implemented.

No, i believe the endgame for most is STF's and foundry missions. I doubt we'll see any "eve online" style sandbox where we can just war and grief each other to the end of time.

Sandbox does not have to equal full-on PvP. Sandbox is sandbox... you build it, you decide where to go, you pick an activity for fun or profit. The development challenge is to come up with things that fit your game engine that are sandbox in nature. STO was obviously designed to be a theme park (quest/mission) MMO. I agree it would be cool and add years to the game. So far STO seems have a solid foundation, now I just hope thay can continue to build it in a way that still accessible to a large market.
