Its pretty sad that players are chomping at the bit to play the new FE.
Please don't misunderstand... what I'm saying is, due to the overwelming lack of content in this game evey time cryptic throws the players a bone its like a whole new game is being launched...yikes.
This new FE is maybe 2.5 hours of content released over 4 or 5 weeks. I bet it is fantastic but there is something wrong with getting so revved up over 2.5 hours of gameplay.
This makes me seriously question the viablity of STO.
And certainly question my gold status.
Subs must be dropping like flies.
Thanks Craptic for the bone.

Neverwinter will be able to release without Cryptics bad name & reputation on it then.
why do you question the viability of the game when that is pretty much what we have had for the past 2 years? the game is now f2p and they actually hit their server limit for the max number of players on at any one time for a while.
by who? PWE?
Everyone likes to have a scapegoat.....I never cared for PWE games because they were oblivious in design anyway. I have enjoyed much of what cryptic has produced however and feel this marriage of sorts to PWE isn't doing them any favors in the street cred department.
Developers are artists, if you have a tumor (PWE) hindering your ability to create good things.....you get slightly good things....with a hint of bad things.....
Well, not getting any funding from your parent company will do that to you.
spending all their time converting the game into f2p and making sure the new players enjoy the experience also took a lot of time, but it seems to have paid off by the huge number of people that turned up and are still playing.
it does seem like there will be a sizable gap between the next FE series but if pvp, crafting, fleet and the foundry all get updates in season 6, plus we know there will be at least one klingon ep due after the FE series, with hopefully a few other bits and pieces, i dont see it as a huge problem.
I wasn't really interested in the past FE's either. They were neat, yes. I had a lot of fun playing through them, like I have any other part of the game. But I wasn't on the edge of my seat waiting for them and frothing at the mouth demanding MORE FE'S MORE PVP MORE STFS MORE FACTION. CONTENT CONTENT CONTENT NOW NOW NOW.
All I've wanted for almost two years are the little flashing running-lights on my Intrepid. That's it. 15 minutes work by Logan. Almost two years.
What can I say? I'm easily satisfied by small simple things than large grandiose events.
But then again, I'm obviously the extreme minority.
Well, I we can only hope the advent of the lockboxes will provide some funding to stimulate some hiring.
Yeah, so what they are doing now with the consoles or telling us that they won't be able to probably release but 2 FE series this year (because they will be too focused on consoles and lock boxes) doesn't demonstrate that the same business practices that people have been complaining about and leaving STO over for the past two years aren't legit.
Apologies won't save this game. If people stop giving Cryptic money, your game is gone too and you should be upset about these things.
Those excuses dont work anymore. This is a new year under a new F2P model and they have a big new owner who "understands MMOs" or however they put it. The old excuses dont work anymore, and certainly have nothing to do with how long it will be between FE 4 and 5.
Here here.
Though you forgot the part about the original release date...
And again, spot on.
That's just going to **** people off and lean towards lack of funds in the future. You still need people around to make money.
That is related to the whole "not having funding" thing. If you have no money, you can't hire people to build content. So you make do with what you have which was a ship artist.
Hiring takes time. They may get more than two out. But as we have seen, it is better to temper expectations than to later disappoint.
They've been hiring for over six months now if I recall properly.
It still doesn't matter. These money grabs are not helping the game. It doesn't matter if you have more money to make content if you've disgusted your player base to the point of leaving your game for good. Do you really think Cryptic can continue to compete like this in world where MMOs are going f2p on a regular basis?
the sooner they staff up the better for everybody but i dont think money is the limiting factor in them hiring right now. from what i understand they are looking for people but getting the right people can be a long process. computer game designing is a fairly specific skill. i imagine there is not an over abundance of them around.
Don't get me wrong, there is still a small crystal of dilithium left in my warp core of STO hope.
But, its always been just beyond the next hill for STO improving. First, it was the deadline, then Atari, then F2P. I just don't really believe it will get better. I think this is the STO everybody is stuck with.
I'll hope for the best, but experience here tells me that isn't happening.
How about this then: you tell me what you think the expiration date is on all those old excuses, and after that date you cant use them anymore. Unless you actually think that they can be used forever?
Speaking of the "lock boxes". I don't know about anyone else, but I personally am only going to by a key if I get a gold box. Those are supposedly going to have the better stuff whereas the regulars are a crapshoot. And if I don't get a Cardie, no harm no foul, I didn't get a Jemmy either.
I might be doing this too, but it wont be with CP I paid for, it's coming out of that stockpile I traded DL for, but the regular boxes, like the QWW ones, I wont be touching.
They're still a crapshoot. Just better odds of the 'more desirable' items. [You'll note that it doesn't say higher odds of the Galor, just the more desirables]
Sad but true.
Seeing as the change in ownership and F2P is now done, I just can't see why so little new content is on the cards
I'm with you there... That and i really really want actual impulse engines on my Nebula... *sigh* Oh well...
Never-mind that we won't see another Star Trek MMO in our lifetime, that's a better fate than the disgrace this game is becoming.
That's how I do it now too. I run dailies on like 5 toons every day and buy like 50 to 75 c-points a day. So I've been stock-piling the last month like 1000 cpoints. I really like the DL exchange. I can't believe people sell "real" money for fake money. But it just funds my toons.:D
My own complaints aside, I'm sure people thought the same thing after the NGE in SWG. And yet TOR still happened.
That date was when F2P went live and I'm being more than generous giving Cryptic even that tbh. Cryptic have used up every excuse in the book at this stage so any TRIBBLE-ups from now on is just down to them being a rubbish game studio.
