Innate shield resistance math

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
I remember sometime last year that the devs posted the math equation for innate shield resistances when shield power was pushed up over 50. Does anyone remember what it was or happened to know what the thread was at the time? If not, I hope a dev could maybe repost it in this thread as I want to know what my toons are getting in this department with their current shield power settings!

    Perhaps you mean this post?

    SDR is multiplicative, not additive. So given 40% and 25% SDRs, you would have 1 - ((1-.4) * (1-0.25)) = 55%.

    Fixed the first batch for you, assuming they actually fix the power level thing:

    * EPtS1 (24%) + 125 Shield Power (25%) = 43% Damage Reduction
    * EPtS2 (32%) + 125 Shield Power (25%) = 51% Damage Reduction
    * EPtS3 (40%) + 125 Shield Power (25%) = 55% Damage Reduction

    New System:

    * EPtS1 (18%) + 125 Shield Power (35%) = 46.7% Damage Reduction
    * EPtS2 (24%) + 125 Shield Power (35%) = 50.6% Damage Reduction
    * EPtS3 (30%) + 125 Shield Power (35%) = 54.5% Damage Reduction

    Mind you, your point still holds, but I do like to see the proper numbers Especially since we're no doubt going to see a lot of calculated SDRs tossed around, since the UI doesn't show the numbers and these changes will most likely impact more than just EP2S.

    Also worth noting that, for a level 51, 125 shield power only gets you ~15% SDR currently. Yup, that whole power_level/500 thing? Not the case. Or rather, seems to be the case only until somewhere in the 20-25 range. By 51, it is closer to (power_level - 50)/500.

    The shield damage resistance values are multiplicative. They are scalers that multiply against the incoming damage.

    For example. An ability that grants a 25% shield damage resistance is actually multiplying the damage by .75. On its own, this will result in a 25% damage reduction.

    When more than one shield damage resistance ability is being applied, the scalers are multiplied. Two abilities that grant a listed 25% shield damage resistance would actually look like this:

    .75 * .75 = .5625 * incoming damage (or an approx. 44% damage resistance).

    It is not ideal and unfortunately different from the hull damage resistance calculation. It has everything to do with how hull and shields are handled in our system.

    That's not quite it Asakara, but thanks for looking! I'm pretty sure it was a post about how the innate shield resistance worked based on your current set shield power level without being modified by a skill like EPtS. I hope that a it might be around here somewhere!

    Has anyone been able to find anything on this?

    It used to be Shield Power / 500 which was +25% at power level 125. But it was tweaked it some time later to be SP / 357.12 for up to 35% Shield Damage Resistance at 125 Shield Power.

    Edit: I got the revised numbers mixed up.

    I thought I had it covered with this:

    Based on that last formula, and using the magic of Excel I get:

    PL............SDR
    10........... -8%
    20............-6%
    30............-4%
    40............-2%
    50............ 0%
    60............ 2%
    70............ 4%
    80............ 6%
    90............ 8%
    100...........10%
    110...........12%
    120...........14%
    125...........15%

    Edit: Based on fuzun's formula above and handy Excel I get:

    PL.........SDR
    10.........3%
    20.........6%
    30.........8%
    40.........11%
    50.........14%
    60.........17%
    70.........20%
    80.........22%
    90.........25%
    100.......28%
    110.......31%
    120.......34%
    125.......35%

    Anyways, good luck finding what you are looking for.

    :)

    And thanks for reminding me to update my Ship Power Guide. And correcting the shield resistance myth I was perpetuating.

    Ah, maybe I was misunderstanding your first post there Asakara. I sincerely appreciate you going through an excel sheet to get this for me! Thanks a lot and yes, you nailed what I was looking for in relation to the math! Thanks a ton everyone!
