Star trek Online For PS3

Ok so I know people have bee skeptical about bringing this game to a ps3 but with he recent release of DC universe online and Free Realms, plus PlayStation Home, PlayStation has proved that it could handle STO. and it would bring in a massive new player base. and rarely do PlayStation users use a headset, so they're wouldn't be winy kids asking their moms for milk. i would even personally work with Sony and Cryptic for free since I've been with STO for awhile and have expirence playing mmo's and sony. So I urge Cryptic employees to consider this it would bring in more players and more money. no flames just honest opnions, and a commen from a dev would be nice

    1; Paragraphs. *please*

2; Its less a tech issue with consoles and more an issue of Cryptic not being able to come to agreements with companies like Sony over use of their platform.

3; I also wouldn't get your hopes up about working with Cryptic for free. Apparently job laws are kind of a pain... better idea is to just shoot them your resume, they supposedly have a big hiring budget right now. ;)

There was some dev response to the idea for the 360. Sony's policies on this stuff aren't as restrictive as Microsoft's, but there's a reason nearly all of the MMO projects for the system fell through.

DCU and Free Realms have a key advantage: They're Sony properties and were allowed to break every single Sony rule that has heavily restricted or killed every other MMO for the PS3.

I dont think it will happen, we have asked for a doff app and the answer was no because of licence issues.
Having STO on a console will likely fall under the same ristrictions.
Besides theirs an entire Mac user base out their thats being left out, not to mention the linux community who are arguably all scify geeks like my self.
I would support STO first on other computers before consoles, sorry.

It will be on Xbox or Games for Windows before PS3. You can currently hook up an Xbox controller to Champions Online and I think you may be able to do the same for some parts of this game.

You can play this game with an xbox controller, my room mate does it with a lot of help from Reaper over at SSR that has been helping him get keybindings all properly layed out :)

I do agree. It'd be awesome to have these on consoles since it'd expand into a market that isn't really tapped for MMO's, but there are technical/legal/whatever holes that'd have to be filled and they have said it's just not feesable.

    Sci-Fy is a channel. Sci-Fi is a genera.

Sorry I just had to get that out of my system by pointing out the blatantly obvious. :)

Fixed that for you. Besides, they have very little real science fiction on the Sy-Fy channel anymore. It's mostly all reality programming now. With just a few exceptions. They've cancelled most of their really good Sci-Fi show's.

Thank you so much for that. No really my tongue is not in my cheek. I mean it. :)

I highlighted the part that I feel best explains why I am clueless. I have not watched Sy-Fy in years.

weill i think it would be a cool idea, i mean the ps3, unlike the xbox is acually quite powerful computers are no loner th top gun anymore, and if dc universe and free realms can break rules hen there's no reason STO cant. i would really lik to hear from a Dev though

And we all thought the 6 Star Wars movies were done with after Episode 3......

Star Wars 3D = "How to beat a dead horse to a Billion Dollars by George Lucas"

    It. Can. Happen.

    No. No it isn't.

They both suck and are now incredibly dated hardware.

Loading stick into torpedo launcher to commence dead horse beating....whoops, little too hard there?

Odds that PWE will go anywhere near the console market: Something on the order of nil to the tenth magnitude.

As in: If they do, I will likely consider such to be a sign of the Apocalypse and that I should run for my merry life...

I'm tired of these computer geeks thinking that computers are the fastest thing out there, a ps3 has massive computing power and op notch graphics, it can even be turned into one with Linux thus it could run this game as well as an alienware could, so stiick it in your disc drive and play it

And yet for all it's power, time and time again the graphics for games on both systems have been only a hair better. Not to mention the numiours complaints that game devs have had about putting code on the PS3. With the whallop they got in this round of the console wars, it wouldn't surprise me to find out that they were getting out of this market like the rumors are saying.

If you've bought a smartphone in the last couple of years it probably has as much (if not more) RAM than your PS3 does. And no, I'm actually not kidding.

Stop believing the marketing lies and look at the actual specs. Or even the end results.

Compare, say, Grand Theft Auto IV or Skyrim running on a PS3, a 360 then a high end PC with the settings cranked.
