Wouldn't it be cool to have a system where there was a "forever battle" going on between Klingons and the Federation? Anyone who enters the system will be able to fight anyone from the other faction there, trying to achieve a set of goals. A sizable force of low-to-medium level NPC vessels from both sides should also always be there, fighting an ever-lasting battle.
For players, this would be level-independent, that is: Lieutenant 1 fights alongside Vice Admiral 50.
Objectives might be:
- Defense of refugee ships trying to flee from the planet there. Ships that escape while the player is in system give him points (that is, some reward like EC). Likewise, any refugee ship that is show down by the attacker side gives points to each attacker player that is in system at the time.
- Controlling a ring around the planet, which is the proper range for orbital bombardment or beaming troops down. Any second one side controls this ring zone (that is, is the only side to have ships there) gives points for any player of that faction in the system.
- Defense of an orbital facility or logistics ship that functions as logistics base for the defending side of he battle, so you can buy consumables and equipment there by hailing it (much like task force Omega). If this facility or ship takes enough damage, it is disabled for a certain time, thus not allowing replenishment for its side. Both sides should have one.
The idea is that this is not "resetted" like Ker'rat or anything, but an ever-ongoing battle.
What do you all think about that idea?

In any case, I think such maps would help to give the feeling that there is actually a war going on.
