Is it really necessary to have something that can crit for 165k come out of a cube??? Why not balance out the damage all around. To me this is just being lazy and not completely working stf's like they should be.
And can any of the staff complete cure on elite? Can you guys do it and get the bonus? Probably not.
you can shoot them, your team mates should be looking for those giant green orbs, I do. You wont be destroyed by the plasma torps when you team up with me.:D I ve completed the Cure on elite.

I doubt Blizzard's staff are able to complete the hardmode raids they put into WoW, but players can, so what's the difference? As long as things aren't Mathematically Impossible, there's not much reason to complain.
And yeah, the torpedos hurt really really bad, but that's because they can be shot down. I used to complain about them myself until I picked up some beam arrays with bonus accuracy and stuck them on the back of my ship. Sideswiping the torpedoes with them, then switching back to my cannons when they're down has worked wonders to keep me (and my teammates) alive.
I recommend you have a look at Beam Fire at Will or Cannon Scatter Volley, or both, depending on your weapons loadout.
Those have a cool down, I guess my real problem should be stated- The outrageous damage from the torps PLUS those torpedoes that just seem to fall outside the visual spectrum.

The thing is, not everyone catches everything. I can complete teh Cure on Elite too, does this mean I never see or get one shotted by them? Nope. They're overpowered - a general rule is simple as saying 'Any shot that can kill a player in one hit is no fun'.

Even with FAW, it's not guarantee that you'll hit a HYT Torpedo. On my newbie VA with no weapons with ACC and only 6 rank is Captain ACC skill, I've missed a HYT 27 times in a row before I hit one particular HYT (i.e. 27 damage tics that missed during a 4 beam arrays broadside with a FAW running). Those things are now very hard to hit.
... if they all launched their Multi-Vectored assault at the same time,
and they all launched Scorpion fighters
and they all fired off mines with Dispersal Pattern Beta 3
and all 5 were Sci Capatains that hit their Photonic Fleet
all at the same time
would that much spam kill the internet?!?

That much spam would be like trying to play the Starbase Fleet Action. (>_>)
The team was all in MVAM at the same time. That was how I could tell them apart from the generic escort type.
And I was a Sci-Captain using Photonic Fleet. Too bad that wasn't all MVAM holo-fleet.
I'd *much* rather be teamed with a bunch of escorts, of any sort, than the flood of Odysseys and Bortas's we're seeing now.
Escorts = damage, and damage = speed, and speed = optionals.
Unless your teamed up with my Tac captain's Bortas.
It has pretty much equal if not more DPS than any Raptor, BoP or Escort.
I can even outmaneuver and outgun Defiants in PvP.
maco mk11 shields equiped. armor all equiped and kentic armor equiped giving me a 35% kentic resist. i had full shields and hull.... one shotted with a 64k normal plasma torp hit.
i could only imagine the damage that it would have bbeen had i not had shields and resists up.
1) Be in an Escort. There's no reason to use a Sci or a Cruiser.
1a) If you really insist on being a Sci to CC Nanite Spheres/Probes, don't. An MVAE can take GW 1 and TBR 1 and be way better at it than you.
2) Load up on either 4 DHCs + 3 Turrets or 3 DHCs + 1 DBB + 3 Turrets
3) Get two copies of Cannon: Scatter Volley, FAW. (SV 1 + 1, FAW 1 + 1) and Attack Pattern Beta (APB 3 + 2)

You are saying the truth ! But do you think its normal ? In a game with such variety of ships and build ?
Something is wrong, we are actually force to use escort ships everywhere, pve or pvp...
Escorts are the best ships for every class ( exept for science, but not sure of that lol)
They have dps, tanking, speed, manoeuvrability....Why to use cruisers ? They are slow, have lower dps and cant tank as well as a escort ! They lack defense, and sometimes accurency...
Pity...because i love cruisers, and i use them but when i compare what i can do with my escort, the choice is naturally made. Cryptic have to look at this problem !
(sry for my bad english, its not my native speaking, feel free to correct me )

We've all completed cure on elite, but that's not what this thread is about.
We aren't talking about the high yield plasma tarpedoes that are large and can be destroyed.
We're talking about your average untargetable plasma torpedo that elite cubes, tac cubes, and gates fire. That crits for over 165,000 damage.
Given that these torpedoes are small, and their luminosity is not only low, but is also the colour of 90% of the backgrounds in a given borg space mission, they really sneak up on you. Even if you see them coming, you're usually still screwed.
You can pop polarize, brace for impact, and subspace modulator all at the same time, but you can't escape the torpedo, and you *will* die when it hits you.
Testing has shown that I never have to worry about the borg torp spreads or high yields. Even on a crit, while they can certainly do catastrophic damage, it's survivable if you see it coming.
It's when an elite tac cube/gate fires a single plasma torpedo that you have to be worried, because they almost always crit and when they crit you're going to explode.
I do really well with my odyssey. But I'm not an idiot. I have all mk XII gear. I can solo cubes *IF* I can hit the plasma torps....
Same here in my Galaxy-r.
Even today in KASE, I popped a cube solo, then I popped. Didnt see any HPT's though and i had enough hull and shields to withstand anything else it could throw at me (albeit not a full strength), maybe it was one of these invisable ones I've been hearing about?
On another note. It's a shame people are prefferring escorts so much, andhave reason to, when other ships can anddo sit in the mix and get the optionals. I got my MACO Team Commander Accolade and regularly get the optionals, especially in space.
On to the OP. I havn't been one shot in a long while, worst I get when at full hul and shields is one shield facing down and 65% of my hull wiped out, which is still a lot but you can withstand and recover if your team has your back.
So you guys dont see the problem with escorts being the only option for stf's???
No, its clearly a problem. Sadly, its a problem that Cryptic does not seem interested in addressing. (Like a lot of the problems in the game, unfortunately.)

EDIT: I should be specific. I am not referring to the Weapon-Damage Boost Consoles, but the Point-Defense style ones.
This right here. You don't always see them. I died 5 times last night to invisible torps. Also... this is not wow...
Now, if only we could point directly downwards...
I recommend you have a look at Beam Fire at Will or Cannon Scatter Volley, or both, depending on your weapons loadout.
So yes, the Optionals are very possible.
You cold just ram against the cube. It will slide you vertically. Not aesthetically pleasing, but the result is similar.

No kidding. We were done in, like, five or six minutes. It was a very quick match, the fastest STF that I have ever been in.

Remember when people swore you couldn't blitz in a Nebula-class?
I could get mighty fast between Engine Batteries, [Turnx2] engines, EPtE, AuxtID, and evasive manuevers.
For the torpedos, either:
1) Be in an Escort. There's no reason to use a Sci or a Cruiser.
1a) If you really insist on being a Sci to CC Nanite Spheres/Probes, don't. An MVAE can take GW 1 and TBR 1 and be way better at it than you.
