Well those got my appetite for DS9 to come back makes me want to see the series again. Fortunately I have the whole series. Time to start watching again.
People argue that in Trek fighters wouldn't work as they wouldn't pack enough punch to get through a ships shields to do any damage, yet in that entire fight I don't think I saw shields flash even once. and the opening shots by the feds was to sic the peregrine "fighters" (yes they are more like heavy shuttles due to size) on the cardie ships, and they did some decent damage to their targets
As someone who just started playing STO last week, I must say that I'm glad the game is continuing the canon of the series as a whole. I had imagined that outside of the events already happening in the series, the game would do its own thing. That being, in the case of this FE, we'd never have heard from the 2800 ever again as the show would have been the last time we saw them ever and would never use any plot element left behind from any of the shows.
I'm happy to see that, officially or not, they're continuing using plot elements from the shows. Makes me smile as a mild Trekkie.

Just to prep you all for the epicness that was the plot that lead to this FE
Awesome, your awesome for posting those links.
I have a question though, does the new FE correspond to the order of missions in the mission log. Since the changes you have to do the missions in order. I have a VA that haven't done any of the Captain level Cardassian/Dominion True Way missions.
I hope this does not effect my ability to play the new FE. What level must I be to do them? and do I have to do all other missions in chronological order, in order for me to play the new FE themselves?

Good chances are this FE series will be just like all the others before it. there will be a min level like Lt 7 or something, and it will be available to everyone regardless of story arc progress. some time after the whole series is out then they will fold it into the mission logs like the others

I never wanted to watch deep space 9 thought it looked boring but i finally watched all the seasons and its brillant wis i had watched it earlier great story line

Thank you so much for the first link. I have always wondered what episode that massive DS9 battle was in. Now I have a direct link to it to watch over and over again.
My fictional heart goes out to all the Feds, Marqui and Cardies that fictionally died during that one battle sequence.
I also remember Sisko shooting quantuum Torpedoes at the wormhole and hailing the Dominion afterwards telling them that their reifnorcements will come in 80 years. - What was that about then?
Can anyone explain to me why the starfleet ships don't just warp passed the dominion fleet?
Space is so ludicrously big that a line formation they showed in that clip 'blocking' the path to DS9 in deep space doesn't really make any sense to me. If you think star systems are big, they are a grain of sand in the sea that is space and a fleet of ships is insignificant compared to a star.
I can't imagine how any battle could happen anywhere other than at a key resource/strategic position (i.e planets, space stations).

TL/DR - the feds had met the dominion, the dominion captured the defiant crew and put them into a computer simulation to see how various invasion strategies would play out.
The firing of torpedos at the wormhole and the "you can expect reinforcements in about 70 years!" never really happened. It was all a computer simulation.

Why didn't the battle happen at DS9?
I imagine because any move to get around the fleet would be matched by the opposing fleet. The dominion can warp too. If the Feds move to warp around the dominion fleet, the dominion just matches their moves, blocking them and forcing the confrontation.
The dominion wanted this fight to occur AWAY from the station so that they could continue to take down a mine field without risk of interruption. Plus the dominion had the stronger attack force.

Why didn't the battle happen at DS9?
Because the Dominion has sensors as well. They were going to stay between the Federation fleet and DS9 and it is hard to get ~1,000 ships to juke around another 1,000+ ships. And it would be kind of pointless to have a fleet if it didn't have the ability to blockade an area.
But for all intents and purposes slipping by the enemy because space is big makes for boring television. The battle was planned before Season 5 had ended. All the episodes prior to Sacrifice of Angels was merely setting up the battle.
When it does. . . you should play in a close group with 4 other people, and stick together on the Promenade.
Actually, you'll probably want to stick together outside too. . .
At least for the first episode.
Yay!
Bah!
I intend to go in guns blazing alone with no real plan but what I make up along the way, never stopping, breaking my stride, or dropping below full impulse.
I plan on migrating my slower ships to DS9 on Friday. That way I don't have to waste their already meager EC balance using the transwarp. My larger ships are either the Excelsior or the Odyssey. Both of which can cover the distance fairly quickly.
Dominion fleet pick a location to position themselves in empty space due to not wanting the fight to be near DS9.
Empty space is so incredibly vast that this fleet would be a tiny dot, so in theory flying somewhere else toward DS9 and completely avoiding them would not be a problem (and not really involve much of a course deviation).
However, in flying around, the Dominion fleet would then detect the move and give chase...which is tactically bad? So instead starfleet fly right up infront of them and duke it out to make a slight gap in their lines so their ships can get through to DS9.
I still don't really get the logic. Is flying up to a fleet twice their size really better than trying to leg it to DS9 with that fleet in pursuit?
Essentially it is down to this:

However it is nice to try and rationalise it in the trek universe as well
yesterday, and today. I'm loading every DS9 map, and swapping out the sky files. Hopefully soon, all DS9 maps will look like that. (interiors and exteriors)

So, as per usual, they took a shortcut.

I'm reminded how awesome DS9 was after those videos, makes me want to watch the entire series again!

What are the projected rewards for said FE series? Another BO for my crew of freak show BO's?

That was from this MUCH earlier episode in season 3: http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/The_Search,_Part_II_(episode)
