So one of the discussions that occasionally comes up is the ship slot limitation and how it's related to the fact that ships have a lot of data associated with them. I understand this to be true, there's the loadout (weapons, consoles, etc), boff seating, costume, etc.
With the advent of the dilithium economy, it dawned on me that I'd love to have a way to mothball a ship with out completely discharging it. There are some ships that I like to hold onto for sentimental reasons (Miranda and Nova jump to mind). Other ships I hang on to because I might change my play style in the future. But I don't need them immediately, and I don't need my stuff on them.
Now, I know that some people do rotate between ships, having an STF or PvP ship, but this idea would hopefully augment the current system without clogging the pipes.
So, here's what happens: When you drydock a ship, the ship is stripped (all equipment on it returns to your inventory). Any BOff seating is forgotten. Basically all the game remembers is that you have a ship and what it's costume was (and its name and registry). Any other data is effectively discarded.
Of course, a warning dialog would come up before you drydock. And maybe there could be some cool interface where you go pick up your ship. When you pull your ship out, you'd have to re-equip her, but it would be time spent vs. spending money / dilithium to reclaim a ship you had.
I've noticed that I sometimes forget that I left something on a ship when I move to a new one, and this would help clean up that data.
Sounds good to me, I have far more ships than I "need" but I like ships alot so when a new one comes out I usually pick it up. I'm actually past what I think the limitation was cut down to since I had them prior but with more ships coming out I wouldn't mind a way to get them without having to completely scrap the one's I've customized.

And then I wonder if there would be an option to lease/sell mothballed ships to other players.
