Questions about the new grab-bag

Yea... keep the flaming somwhere else... I am interested in real answers not the hate going around (not a big fan of the grab bags, or the master key, but I still have questions).

1: So... we need a master key... all fine and good... But can we "peek" inside the boxes so we know that the item inside is something we want before we apply the master key?

2: How long will theese be up? Are they time limited like the Gift box, or will theese persist untill... well... forever?

    1. I highly doubt it. This is somehting thats been done before in other games and you don't get to peek because then you can just buy the key and toss boxes until you get the one item you want, which defeats Cryptic's objective of grabbing as much money as possible for the very least amount of effort.

    2. Honestly I can't say. These things exist permanetly in other games, but teh QWW grab bag was a limited tim ething so it's hard to call this one.

See... That's what confuses me, cause twitter posts and partiallty the node indicates that you can peek... Sorta "if you don't want the box content, you can just sell it"... I read that as you can peek, and it makes sence... just because I dont want the horta, theres a good chance someone else does.

Yea... I could see several of theese floating around, (cardassian, breen, Dominion...)... But I am really curious, cause I was kinda dissapointed that the gifts went away...

Edit: I could even see the Jem'Hadar ship returning, and it wouldn even infringe on the whole "CBS dosent want everyone to fly enemy ships", cause with the Galor, that's gonna happen anyways... And would perhaps loosen up on the rage.

When you go to Los Vegas to gamble, can you peek inside the device and see which combinations you will get? ;)

I suspect these are permanent (after all, it took work to make; time limiting it will just require them to spend more labor on new grab bags) and we'll eventually see a box for every faction, which will complete this system and cap out the need to add more grab bags (although you might still see periodic improvements of grab bag loot tables).

To me that read as "If you don't like it this concept, dump the box on someone else", rather than being able to see the contents beforehand. I also have to believe that if you could, they would have stated so more clearly to mitigate the rage they must know would come with this idea.

This might be a shock to you: I don't go to vegas... I don't gamble. I don't even live in the US, and have no intention of ever going there, or to a casino.

    Another shock: STO isn't vegas...

    I see your point.

    1) I suspect (very strongly) that the Lockbox works like Cryptic other "box" items (data chips, Q's Mysterious items, level appropriate items). There is nothing "in" the box. It's basically a "token" for a roll on the Lockbox drop table when you open it. So nobody know what the results will be before hand, not even Cryptic.

    2) If time limited, I suspect it the Lockbox drops. The master keys will probably be available for very long time. Perhaps forever. Just to cover corner cases of player getting a Lockbox on the very last day. Staying away from the game for a long time (months or years). And then coming back to the game expecting to be able to open LockBox.
