Small Craft Flight Controls

Since the new missions are supposed to incorporate some situations where small craft are used, maybe it's time to talk about how they fly.
Is there anything preventing the dev team from allowing Peregrine fighters to have complete maneuverability on the Y-axis? I mean, I understand why *starships* aren't allowed to do barrel rolls, corkscrews and loops, but why not allow strike craft to do it?
Also, can anything be done to make their controls less jerky? All of the small craft really are difficult to maneuver with any kind of finesse, especially when using Evasive Maneuvers.

    'BattleStations' by Diane Carey.

Page 10 - Kirk: ' Before you can out-guess an enemy in three dimensions, you've got to be able to maneuver in two. '

Some of us here are perhaps ready for the 'Y' axis. Most are no where near that, but I agree with you!

Perhaps there can be a 'Deep Space' area where those who are ready to fly in three dimensions can go and do so - as was being done by NASA's Mercury Program - a test area to see if/how we can do in that Y axis? Perhaps on Tribble?

Granted, I am not programmer, but I do fly flight simulators and of course its three dimensions in the air, even if gravity is a constant. In Space - gravity is not a constant, unless STO throws us a few gravity wells, or other anomalies like the Sun? :)

Anyways, STO has tons on their boards and our wants and needs may not be their priorities, but someone in STO has rest assured thought of the Y flight axis fun and it wouldn't surprise me if they are ALREADY having that fun in their alpha test servers. :D

Whatever the deal ( and stealing from Star Wars - Luke in Jedi training with Yoda ) Luke: ' What's in there? ' Yoda: ' Only what you take with you. '

    Still, we wait.

    Thank you STO!

Thanks for the response, but that's not really where I was going with my suggestion.

I'm fine with keeping the existing restrictions on the Y axis for starships. Other threads have been over that.

What I'm proposing is lifting the restrictions ONLY FOR SMALL CRAFT. Specifically the Peregrine Fighter.

Since the devs previously cited geometry issues with the larger ships, I'm betting it'll be less of a problem with the minimally-customizable fighter. It would really make for amazing space battles if small craft had the full range of movement that they would realistically have.

    Tighter controls would also help.

Anybody who's played the Halo Reach campaign knows how much fun a fighter with full 3D movement can be.

I sure hope Cryptic will consider a full Y-Axis for fighter craft.
