I'm curious if developers are thinking of making travel a little bit more accurate based on supply of fuel for propulsion or not? I think that would add a little bit more complexity and challenge to STO. I'm not proposing that people can stall their warp core and get stranded in the middle of a sector map, but what if you run out of a certain supply of matter/antimatter reserves, you can only travel at warp 5 (or less) max and/or you can't use transwarp drive. You don't have to make fuel a purchasable item. (we buy enough here on Earth!!) Maybe like, you have to visit a starbase to bring your reserve back up before you leave to continue or start a new mission. Just something that makes the traveling aspect of the game something the player has to plan for.
I understand it takes away some of the simplicity but with all the complexity that has been put into the various systems (engineering, science, tactical, bridge crew, reserve crew, etc.) that this would be another to make it a step forward in that direction. I think it would make the STO universe much bigger! And would give developers more area to create more worlds to visit. Just seems like once you've reached rank 50 you've done all you can and reality is that you get there too quick. Therefore the desire to play goes away.
Developers, please comment. I'd really like see what you think.
Should read up on Bussard collectors. Under normal operation starships collect their own fuel in the form of ionized hydrogen from the interstellar medium.
