I've recently had my first "waiting in queue" messages when logging into STO. I think that's good news in a way because that means lots of people are playing

(Of course that's just short term - long term I hope nobody has to wait in line

)
Anyway, just now I was 2 out of 1116, and I got in almost immediately. Does that mean I cut to the front of the line because I'm a gold member? If so, well worth the $15

The crash yesterday was related to a database optimization that we put in to help improve peak capacity. We turned off that optimization after restarting, so the capacity of the game is slightly lower until we get a fix live at the next restart. We lowered the population cap to account for the reduced capacity, but it is not very much lower than it was yesterday.
Behold, basic literacy. Yes, it's bloody temporary.
We will continue to increase capacity over the coming weeks. We have a bunch more software optimizations that are in testing or development right now. Our goal is to never have players wait in a queue, and we will keep working on it until we get there. That being said, the wait for silver players is pretty short even with over 1000 in the queue.
How many players are there on the sto server at anyone time tho?, Just curious.
Unfortunately, I think they will never just out and tell us for all sorts of reasons. I will admit I am just as curious, and as angry as I get about things with this game, I still want it to succeed very much so. While login queues suck, I am proud we are hitting them regardless of the number of peeps on because it tells us that it definitely was more than it was yesterday or the week before or whatever.. and that has got to be good.
This is the first time I've seen a queue with STO, though I have read it has happened, and I smiled. No sense in getting mad about it, just like with any MMO they'll tweak it or throw hardware at it or both and we'll be back in business after a few weeks at the most.
That's great, thank you
hopefully that population will stay increased, its been much busier in the last few weeks in general than December was, just from the amount of instances and players visable in social hubs..
I just hope "the community" doesnt start the endless bickering, finger pointing and name calling that seems to appear the second anything doesnt work absolutely perfectly in this game, because that will solve the "log in queue" problem by driving people away.
I expect even with software optimisation that queues will be possible next weekend with the FE launch.
That is the reason they put in "priority access" so if you dont want to wait then subscribe if you dont want to subscribe then dont complain.
Can you confirm that this Sunday, when the Giants return after a several year hiatus, that they will win the Superbowl?
Not worth it, even for free.
Better get it sorted pronot, otherwise u wil loose players. And its nio enabling some players to do the q event either is that fair ???? Don't think so
Every time I log in, no matter which character, my skill bars are all rearranged into some random order. I will NOT rearrange them again.
Like I said before, not worth it, even for FREE.
Log in. Press "P". Check the little box that says "Lock". This will help immensely, though you will still find situations where you will need to reassign your Boffs to their correct stations when switching ships.
I'm just curious.... ya'know?
Edit: "bypass" is one of those tricky English words. Does it mean cut in front of the nonsubs, or jut get shoved straight through regardless of server capacity...* shrugs*
Regarding waiting a few extra seconds and seeing it as an extremely minor irritation, that's not even the issue. You see if I have more than one games to play and limited playtime, whenever I'll see a queue in STO, I will simply cancel the log-in request and go play something else because my time is precious to me and the latest trend of disconnects I've experienced in STO and waiting-time in queues aren't contributing to a pleasant user-experience in a game I've supported in various ways before it even launched!
You do realize that if you log in when the server if full, the best Cryptic can do is push you to the front of the wait list. When the server is full, it's full, and you cannot get in until someone logs out. Think of it as an amusement park where you can get on a roller coaster via the exit, bypassing the waiting line. If the roller coaster ride is currently full/in-progress, you have to wait for the coaster to stop and someone to get off before you can get on.
There is really no way around this. Cryptic certainly isn't going to reserve you a spot when they have no way of knowing if/when you are going to play.
About what you said earlier in your post regarding not being able to plug someone into the game, well, I hate to tell you but in essence it's definitely possible to take someone off the game and put someone else in instead! Like anazonda said: Cryptic has increasingly degraded the value of a paid subscription versus a free account so much so that even the basic SLA is devalued, so the very least they could do is be honest about it, you know?
Oh wait, never mind... what am I saying? It's an MMO and the EULA/TOS already cover all this... carry on Cryptic, keep spitting in our face and telling us it's rain.
Everyone knows it's technically possible, but Cryptic isn't going to boot someone just to let you log in.
And while I'm here, you are not going to get any argument from me on the state of the game, including but not limited to no support, bugs, lack of content, and broken promises. But for this case, you cannot really expect anything more than being moved to the front of the wait queue. Cryptic cannot reserve spots or intentionally kick people that are already playing.
