Not sure what the deal here is, but I'm getting 1-shotted in PVE a whole lot lately..
Just today, I was running Badlands on my 50 Tac. Running an Akira with a Mk X! (Lol) Paratrinic, Positronic Deflector [SiF] [ShdS] XI and a Mk X blue Neutronium. Before the last few days, it was tough as nails, even for a tier 3.
Running Badlands today, 3 times, I was 1-shotted by Cardassian ships of my level (+0) on normal difficulty. 1 Galor hit me with a photon that did 58,000 damage thru a fully charged shield arc. Another hit a fully charged shield arc for 18,100 damage, collapsing that shield and taking my hull down to almost nothing.
This is kind of ridiculous, and I'll chalk it up to the long list of bugs that've been plaguing the game recently, but I'd just like to know if anyone else is experiencing the same..
I've never been one-shot excpet for the first time vs D'deridex' triple torp salvo.
I am currently a VA in an Gal-X and i don't pause for much in PvE @ Elite.:)
I am about halfway through the Romulan quests and get one shot with some regularity. This happens most often with the Battleships, though on occasion it happens when facing escorts as well. Though as I am new I cannot advise if this is due to a recent change, or more of the price I pay for flying an escort :P
It's not really the price you pay for driving an escort because I've never experienced it before. This isn't even really the occasional fluke crit, this was 3, almost 4 times in one mission..
Escorts are not meant to go toe to toe with battlecruisers. You have to be intelligent about standoffs with larger craft because they can and will make quick work of you if you let them, especially in the elite STFs. Make sure you're getting in and out before they can smuck you around like that and you should be fine. If you try to stand and shoot with a larger ship, well, you can try to tank with Tac team rotation and Rotate Shields/Polarise Hull, but they will destroy you pretty easily once you've used up those tricks. It's best to just set up successive attack runs.
This is not new. This is by design. You have to be intelligent to take down these larger, more heavily armed craft, even with the cstore ships such as the VA tactical escort refit.
Incidentally, you can't always count on "fully charged shields" - some weapons such as the borg cutting beam, will go right through them as if they weren't there, something that always gets the ragequits coming when the newbies do an elite space STF the first time.
A Galor isn't a battlecruiser, last time I checked, and a single photon torpedo doesn't 1-shot ships thru shields, at least it hasn't in the time I've been playing the game..
I could see if I was fighting Borg DSEs on Elite, but I wasn't. I'm talking trash mob Galors using photons on normal difficulty against a ship with 8k+ shields and 24k hull. And I'm not talking once, it happened 3, almost 4 times.
I've looked around and found other threads with people talking about plasma torps doing ridiculous amounts of damage and the likes, so my guess is they borked K-damage somehow..
If you're playing on Elite difficulty, get used to the one-shots now, because they don't stop during storyline play. The Elite STFs are full of them, where Cubes of all flavours can one shot you on a regular basis.
Um... The ship your flying is not up to the task. The Akira is not an end level ship. If you are a Fed and flying an Escort that is not the Bug, MVAE/AE, Fleet Escort, or Defiant R then you are going to be too weak to really throw down. Especially without good gear to compensate.

well. on normal difficulty no one should be having a problem in an escort. i literally and so doe others, evaportate groups of enemy mobs in one pass.

Again, the point there is, the guy is flying a T3 ship at VA. As opposed to trading up to an RA grade ship. Even with mk X gear, that ship's still going to be underpowered for what you face at VA.
Because I like the ship and before the last couple bug-filled patches, I didn't have this problem?
You aren't teaching me anything I don't know by saying "Your ship is under-powered and that's why!"..Because it didn't happen before the latest string of patches. Which is what leads me to believe there's something borked with KE damage.
If it was just the ship, and if it had been happening all along, I wouldn't have made this thread to begin with.

I'm just trying to get a response to whether or not you're playing on Elite difficulty, which then I could either say "Yes, it's a bug" or "No, just your difficulty setting."

He already said it was on normal difficulty, in a standard mission. \\

Were you flying it in the same sort of missions? Are you positive it was the torp killing you? I find the most deadly thing my enemies do to me is blow up on me.
For the Elite difficulty they supposedly made the ships weaker on their tank and harder hitting on their attacks. This perhaps has bled through to all difficulties.
I think it's the level scaling they introduced recently.
I noticed an effect like this for the first time, when theexploration missions started to get scaled up.
Facing a Klingon swordmaster was a bit of a challenge at first at the appropriate level (around LC what the Klingons were designed for), at VA thos same swordmasters turned into 1 shot monsters esspecially on Elite setting.
Now they did the same thing with all missions, so the problem becomes more apparent.
An enemy that is designed to deal a challenging kind of damage at a certain level (Cardassian Galor at high commander - low captain level) multiplies his damage (and hit points) to a ridiculous degree to keep up with us VAs.
Only the difference in our hitpoints is not really that great so the moster torpedo rips you apart if you are unlucky enough.

Swordmaster's are face rolls now, even the Dahar Masters are easy compared to what they used to be (I was running the Klingon missions on Elite yesterday with my Tac). They used to scale badly and be full of one shots but I don't recall being one shot for a long time outside of an STF.
Word of advice to avoid being one-shotted in Elite STFs: WHEN A BORG CUBE OR TACTICAL CUBE IS ABOUT TO EXPLODE, USE ANY MOVEMENT BUFF YOU HAVE AND GET AS FAR AWAY FROM THE EXPLOSION AS YOU CAN!!!!!!!!!!
Seriously, I was flying a Tac Escort Retro in an Infected Elite Run, and got too close to the Tactical Cube at the end as it was exploding. Frakking explosion hit me for 700K damage, even with full shields!!!
I still intend to do some Elite STF Runs (I want MACO Gear for my Main, his BOs, and his Tac Escort Retro). I just need to remember to stand clear of the exploding Cubes and Tactical Cubes.
Well, they did change the npc ships a bit a couple patches ago. IIRC, they upped their damage output some, so maybe thats what it is. I would be willing to bet the level scaling has something to do with it too. It's scaling to 50, but you in a 30-40 ship. Ill bet it's no bug, just that your ship is weak. You can get mad all you want, and blame it on the game or a bug, but if you were flying a correclty tiered ship, you wouldnt get roflstomped by mobs.

And remember to steer clear of about-to-explode Cubes and Tac Cubes, especially on Elite STFs.

Same goes for almost any ship blowing up... Avoid getting trapped in their explosions. What is EVIL is when you get trapped against and exploding ship by a tractor beam or the like that you cannot get out of at that moment lol.

Yeah, but at least you have a chance at surviving lesser explosions. Getting too close to an exploding Cube or Tac Cube is pretty much a sure-fire way to end up exploding yourself.
