Set Patch Day?

Hey all, I played STO back when it was in beta, then stopped shortly before it got to official release due to a lack of capital on my part. Either way, I've recently begun playing again and if there is one thing that has stuck out to me like a sore thumb. It SEEMS like there's a patch every single day. For instance, this week, i don't think there was a single day this week that they didn't take the server down at midnight or 2am to patch it.

Would it be possible for Cryptic to set an official weekly patch day and just save all of their bug fixes and content implementation until that day? For instance Tuesday, like any other normal MMO (F2P or P2P). I understand and appreciate the dev's desire to be prompt and hasty in responding to bugs in the game and small hotfixes for the critical bugs that have the community in an uproar are understandable (IE the autofire bug and all of the away mission bugs that have risen since last night's patch). But seriously, just the constant downtime alone is enough to drive me insane... and i can't be the only one.

What you're seeing are hot fixes from going f2p most likely, the usual patch day had been Thursday. Most recently they accidentally damaged the auto-fire code on weapons so I wold hope this patch would correct this and any other issues they've been able to pin down.

Yup, pretty much. They've been doing hotfixes since the game went free, but every hotfix seems to uncover another bug. Which is odd because sometimes it's completely unrelated to the problems they were fixing in the hotfix..

One thing you start to identify over time is that there are cases where seemingly unrelated systems can affect one another. It's happened a number of times in the other mmo-that-shall-not-be-named-but-is-known-for-it's-massive-market-share.

Thanks all for the responses, i had no idea these were hotfixes officially. However i really do hope they subside here pretty soon because although i do have admiration for the dev teams promptness and responsiveness it is getting a little tiresome haha. and yeah, i've noticed that the more bugs they fix the more come out of the woodwork and i'm sure that was bound to happen anyways as the influx of newcomers with new systems pours in.

As long as they keep fixing things, and get better at not breaking other things with their fixes, I really don't mind 2hrs downtime for every 22hrs up. I would expect this pace to really slow down once they've squashed a lot of these pesky bugs (some of which have been here since beta).

I have noticed that there are still some remnant bugs that have been around since i last played.

It's a problem with any code in any game, really. You're looking at dozens of people who are all writing code in different ways, using different manners of getting to the point, so to speak. To think of an equivalent comparison, try and think of fifty different electricians being told to wire a large building, with only a general universal guideline to work with but, more or less, using their own initiative to get the work done in the way they see fit. Each one is going to have their own ideas about how to do the work, some efficient and clean, others sloppier but faster while still getting the job done. Then tell them to fix certain electrical problems in specific areas, despite that they had nothing to do with certain sections in the first place.

It's just what happens when you have individuals working collectively who have different ideals and style in their work. Things just break sometimes.
