I understand autofire was broken in las night's update. This could potentially be a game breaker for a lot of people. What's being done to address this?

I have this issue since today's patch. Just wanted to open a thread when I saw this here. So I add myself into here.

Combat was really frustrating without autofire! Also since the 400mb patch I can't open my skill button anymore that stays there forever. It doesn't even disappear as the patch note says. Weird stuff happening lately... and there are little Q's running around on SA... RESOLVE THIS BUG PLZ! ;D

Absolutely nothing that anybody knows about. Seriously. I haven't seen a single dev post about it. They posted patch notes for last night with no mention of it.

Looks like they didn't bug check everything. However, there is a way to turn autofire back on, it's just really tedius.

Let me get this straight. The devs updated their game and BROKE the basic attack function in the game. There is no mention of a fix and no devs have even bothered to come online and mention it?
Just so we're clear, they BROKE a function of the game that allowed you to attack an enemy... This isn't a super weapon that destroyed everything on the screen, this isn't an exploit of some kind. This is the equivalent of you acknowledging that something on your computer screen doesn't want you to proceed with your mission.
I get i'm only paying $15 a month or whatever it is. Drop in the bucket really, but i see value in the subscription if its providing me with services i deem valuable. I get that i don't own the devs, or the game, or the servers. But they actually busted a part of the game that means i have to completely change the way i play the game, and then they just don't bother with an update.
    I don't like this.
They managed to make the game unplayable for me by breaking something... whether or not the game still functions in a different way is irrelevant.
    Subscription cancelled.

use /defualtautoattack 1 to turn it back on then right click on your weapons if they are inactive

I believe I have found a perma-fix for this, at least for now. I have re-logged and auto-fire was still active after doing this. Here goes..., 1st go to Controls tab under Options, then switch auto-attack to Toggle Never Cancels, then right click each weapon (while in space of course) then type /defaultautoattack 1

I also heard people saying 2 or 3 worked also, not sure though as 1 worked fine. As I said it was still active when I relogged. Hope this helps.

STO is competing with TOR that gets lots of "Keyboard Love" :p .... seriously, a Dev post would be appreciated.

Ok, to choke on my own words here, it only worked a couple times, yes, I should have tested further before posting, but hey, was worth a try. I gracefully back away from this atrocity, lol.

This does seem to fix the problem. I have confirmed this process as well.

It's broken for me too. Just logged on to add a post and seen that you guys have already created one.

Just tried the oddyssey mission and discovered it didn't work. Was a pain as had to manually fire. I always use autofire.

Can't believe they would break such a basic function. They seem really poor at updating people and responding to these forum posts too.

OK, after reading some of the posts here, I simply cannot believe how many of you have your panties in a twist. What are you...??? 12 ??
Seriously. The amount of code in this game must be absolutely phenomenal, never mind the fact that Cryptic was the 3rd developer to give this a try, and actually made it work! They deserve credit, and lots of it...
As a casual paid subscriber, STO has given me some good entertainment over the last couple of years. Use the temp fix in the meantime, and a MUCH PRAISED Thank You to those who found a workaround, until this IS fixed.

Hats off to the Dev's, and to those Game Players that wish to be part of the solution rather than part of the problem !!

    Carry On !!

Well said, PRDave. People act as if Cryptic did this on purpose and declare they're cancelling their subscription. Accidents happen! Grow the heck up. All I want is a status from the devs as to how it is being addressed and some assurance it won't go on as long as the Bridge Officer cloning debacle.

Take the instant entitlement complex andgo "Occupy" somewhere already.

There is a stickied thread in the Star Trek Online Discussion section on how to work around it.

    Is it inconvenient? Yes.

Is it temporary? Yes, the devs have already said they're working on it.

When will it be fixed? I'm a captain, not a psychic! :)

So when do they stop beta testing this game and release the functional version?
