We already can divert power to each shield facing to more rapidly repair whichever shield facing is taking or has taken damage.
Id like to see this taken one step further to allow each of us, no matter which ship we are in, to be able to determine how much shield strength each facing receives, by decreasing or increasing power levels to the facings themselves. As it is now, each shield facing on any particular ship has an equal amount of power or base Hit Points. I want to be able to decrease power or the Hit Points of one Shield facing to increase another within a range of 20%.
Therefore, for a very fast example: Lets say I have 100 shield Hit Points on all four shield facings. Say I want to decrease shields to my aft by 20%, the maximum Id be allowed and instead put that to use on my forward shields. Therefore, my aft shields would now only have 80hp while my forward shields would have 120hp.
Does anyone else see why being able to do this would be benifitial?
Escorts were meant to have something like this. Powerfore fore shields, but weak everything else. From my understanding however, they couldn't find a way to actually code this into the game. It sounds easy, but it's apparently not as easy as it sounds.
not to mention they would have to create pretty much something special for each type of ship to get the calculations right, since all the different ship types dont use the same shield capacity modifiers, which is why wsticking shields on your fighter or shuttle gives you a lower value than your cruiser.
Reminds me of Starfleet Command 3, where you could completely customize your ships shield facings.
Personally I would love something like this, especially for STF's when im parking my ship to lay down masive amounts of cannon fire on a target like a Cube.
I've been proposing something similar since game launch. It's unlikely to come to pass since it probably would require either new tech or special escort only shields that have stronger fronts.

I refuse to believe any of the developers would have said that it was too difficult to code this into the game and mean that it was too difficult to code.
Anyone with a two year degree or even a book for dummies in C++ or any real computer language, would be able to write code to work with four intigers or variable to get the effect I discribed in the OP. I think, if they had said anything like that, what they really meant was, they couldn't find an easy, cost effective way to do it. AKA, they could do it, but why go through the trouble?
It would be nice to have 4 percentage sliders for shield facing. Encountering ships in PvP would be sort of interesting as you would have to find the shields that are weakest. Maybe there could be a tactical or science ability to identify general shield strength (add a colored ring similar to existing shield facing).
The proposed change could open up more possibilities for BOff powers that they seem to have so much trouble dreaming up.

I think the tactical possibilities of being able to control shield facings are very interesting! On my Cruisers Id use weaker Port and Starboard shielding, say at 90%, so that I could increase my forward and aft shielding by 10% each. After all, my Escort opponents dont want to be on my port or starboard side because that is where I can lay down the most fire.
I can then envision tactical Escorts running with 95% Port and Starboard, 90% aft and 120% to Forward shields. Remember, in my OP I stated there has to be a limit to how much flexibility. I thought 20% in either direction should be the maximum allowed.

I think they could identify ships weakest shielding by simply putting the Percentage numerical values inside the blue rings of the shield display that already is displayed on the tactical view, just make them a contrasting blue tone.

Maybe! I think we, the playerbase all can agree, we would like more BOFF Skills to toy with.
