F2P and map populations

Now that F2P is live and the server is full, there are some badly needed
adjustments to map populations.

What gives the best star trek like flavor?
Crowded starbases, medium populated ground locations, nearly empty space..except
during major engagements.

Do we have that now...no.

Here is a suggested adjustment.

Maximum population before creating a new shard.

Starbases and other interior social areas, like DS9, Starbase 1 ect. >60 players<
Local space, like just outside DS9 >10 players<
Sector space >20 players<
Ground locations like vulcan andoria ect.. >20 players<
Explore nebula's > 4 players<

This should improve gameplay overall and eliminate the OMG I can't
even move my ship because there are so many people here, situation.

They used to have maximum instances of 25 but people complained it felt empty, now people are saying it's too full. Personally I like seeing all those ships around, watching all those Odyssey's in Sol yesterday was good. Made my Nebula look old and outdated though.

If you have 60 players in the starbase, there should be 60 ships outside.

I like the populous look, also.

I think creating some more spawn points would be better than reducing the population. Also, I can beam to that big blue ball the moment I warp into Sol, but I cannot beam into that massive station right in front of me until I move closer? If the beam down to SFA is zone wide, so should the beam down to ESD.

I also think they need to add a docking umbilical door. If you leave ESD from that location, then your ship spawns nears ESD, but if you do the "Beam me Up," then you ship spawns away from ESD. I think that would help reduce the crowd while at the same time leaving the look of being populated. <.< *my journalism instructor glaring at the sentence*

To be honest, I don't care about the numbers as long as I don't get disconnected and thrown out to the login screen!

Your smoking something nasty if you think you can't move your ship for other players!?

Are you keeping in mind how huge space is, there is a role play element to a game even if you don't like RP. The RP in STO is that sector space is massive. A ship beside you on the map is very very far away in the world of well in real life it would be wouldn't it :p

You can't really be seriously asking for the server to handle twice the amount of instances, make them half empty for the sake of not feeling crowded? oi can you move up a bit your scraping the top of my hull you *$%£

There was like 60 instances of ESD yesterday. Are you proposing the servers handle 120 instances because you can't stop running into other players?

    Spawn points I plus +

I made a thread about my idea to allow us to select our own spawn point but no one replied :(

I said that every system has a spawn point anyway, because you spawn outside of it after a mission right? So the devs should change the spawn point and add a checkbox to the system list that already exists for setting where we want to ALWAYS spawn.

No one listens to my ideas because I'm generally a ^%&^%& so thats ok. But it is nice to see someone else does like to discuss realistic solutions close to my own :)

rather than doing all that, why not just spread out the spawn points a bit more

The spawn points are the problem, not the number of people. If anything, there needs to be more people per map (ESD should be massive, why only 75 people on the main level?) I like what they did with Starfleet Academy with multiple entry points.

NOTE: Yes I have had my ship spawn in a pack of parked ships so tight, I had to change instances to move.

I remember when it used to be 25 people, and yea it did feel empty. I'm glad they increased it, but in some instances, its annoying with the ammount of people just sitting around afk in sector/sol space for hours at a time.

Yes, I think more would be good, but multiple spawn points, the annoying bit about the Starfleet Academy multiple entry points is during this Q event, when I am trying to chase after something, some dude beams in right in front of me and makes me lose it ( mind you its an extremely easy event) but when it happens to you at least 7 times in a row it gets rather annoying, that 20 hour cooldown counts for every second.
NOTE: Yes I have had my ship spawn in a pack of parked ships so tight, I had to change instances to move.

Final quote I promise :D ..I have had that happen to me a few times, both in Sector spaces and in Sol, I warp in, only to not be able to move at all until I warp out and warp back in/change instances. As I said with the first quote, It would be nice if people didn't sit in the warp-in spot for 30min to an hour (with around 20 people doing this) it becomes a road block..go park in a docking port.

Ever since STO released, I was always hoping to see peoples' actual starships sitting/flying outside the station when your looking out the window. Or if not PC's ships, perhaps NPC's ships. It would add a bit of realism, or at least show docked ships inside/outside of the stations, i.e. Sol, DS9, SB39, etc.

Check out the trailer to the new feature episode coming.. "The 2800" - you will notice during some of the scenes ships flying above when on a planet, and also ships outside the window during a few scenes shown in DS9 conference room, etc.

They used to have this at ESD but it wasn't ready I don't think and instead they gave us the ships outside the window in the shipyard area.

Same here. First thing I do is find the least crowded instance, and change to it. I just wanna get in, get my business done and get back to killing klinks in PVP.

The reason why i want it empty is because space is big. How rare it should be to bump into another ship.
Everyone hanging around the same planet in Defera seems like a military problem

To quote Sisko when the same question was asked of him by his dad, "It just doesn't work that way."

I think, at a certain level, "it's a game" trumps reality. Otherwise, I'd still be waiting on my ship to finish flying to Vulcan...

Sector space isn't big enough. That is another issue.
Looking at it now though, instead of flying from SOL to Vulcan my entire crew could just transport from ship to ship all the way there
