Auto-fire Bug (Temporary Workaround)

Archived PostArchived Post Member Posts: 2,264,498 Arc User
Hi Captains,

The team is definitely aware of this and is working on a fix. In the mean time, you can do the following:

Chiberry wrote:
Temporary workaround:
  • open up your weapon loadout pane.
  • right-click on each weapon you want to autofire I]you won't see anything change yet[/I.
  • type /defaultautoattack 1
  • the ones you right-clicked on should turn green "(Autofiring!)"

Thanks to Chiberry for posting this.

Cheers,

Yup same here. Might have to cancel my account because space combat is totally broke for me. Its a shame too. Not one word about a major game play bug from the Dev's.

cant say ive encountered that one but make sure the autofire command is set to 'maintain' or 'toggle doesn't cancel' in the options menu.

maybe one of the others is ok. i cant say ive had any issues myself with it but there are like 4 options and one might be broken and the others are ok.

Kaikura, why whats broken? ive not noticed anything major over the last week?

I have played the game since launch and this is the first gameplay bug I have ever encountered.

I know to turn on the auto-fire by right clicking the weapons icons to turn green. Then in the Auto Attack options you set it to maintain or Toogle never cancels. However on ground maps the option of maintain is simply not there and the auto fire does not work.

I wonder if it because I am playing the maps on Elite, I will try some missions on normal and see if this makes a difference and report back.

This is the same for me. I can't play because after 3 seconds of firing all weapons stop firing and count down from 10 to 0 then completely shut down. I click fire again rinse and repeat. I'll check my other setting though. I never had to before. Been playing the same way since release of the game.

Ok i played around in my setting and found out that my settings during the patch got changed. The only option in auto attack that works for me is maintain now. I had it set to toggle never cancel since game release. But auto attack is still bugged because you have to monitor it because it changes on its own. I noticed it seems like this in alot of the setting. Just what does it mean when you look in settings and see a blank box? I feel really bad to Because i never bothered to check those settings because i never changed them ever.

Rolf-Olav, could you be a bit more specific and provide the character names that are having issues? (Or anyone else for that matter). I'd like to take a look at your control scheme data in the database to possibly find a clue as to what is going on.

This could likely be a control scheme issue, in which case the settings are stored per character - not globally. The only settings that are stored globally are in your 'Basic' options tab in the options menu.

Hi, it has been happening on my character, Elspeth@Strorus, Sci Capt grade 8.... Maintain in Space needing to spam the space to get it started and if red alert drops so does the maintain. Maintain on the ground does not exist as an option and the auto-fire does not work.

I have not looked at my other characters yet, but will report back tomorrow if it is happening to them as well.

I hope you can get this fixed.

Hi, just checked my other two toons, Horatio, VA1 Tactical and Sigma RA Engineering and they both have the same problem, please fix my characters.

    Cheers :(

I filed a /BUG report in game - but I've noticed that, depending on what your control setting was - when you open the options menu - the setting under 'controls for auto attack will toggle itself between two settings.
    See this post (link)

This behavior happens on BOTH my FED and KDF characters, so it's not a character specific issue. It's behavior is something similar to what was happening with the (now fixed) buug where keybinds from trom tray 1 were being toggle copied to the secondary keybinnds on tray two - but now with the auto attack selection in the 'Controls' part of the Options screen.

I think there's maybe a targeting problem as well. When I target someone to put a sci/eng team on them quite often it ends up being used on me instead.

Was just about to create a thread about this to. Abilities which most definetly can be used on my team and are definetly in range(was >2m) is getting applied to me....very...very...annoying.

Also have this problem. During Space Combat, the use of Tac Bridge Officers Powers (e.g. Torpedo: HYII and Tac Team I) will de-select a current target. Bug report submitted.

I also noticed a bit of strange behavior on auto targeting / autofire not working last time i played.
I use Toggle, Change cancels, i do not want to aggro everything in range with maintain ;P

I've gone into the options and changed it around like 10 times then it worked again.

I'd go with Armsman's bug report, sounds like he nailed it down...

the charecters that have none working autofire ground are:1 of Thousand, Inita,Seven,Silyh.
the charecters that have working autofire ground are: Jenas and Kowth.

I fixed this problem on my character. In my case, my Bridge Officer Power Bar was stacked (2 lines). Anytime I used a Tact Power, it would deselect my current target. Moving them back to a single line solved the issue.

I've got my beams set to autofire but my torps are on manual. I have noticed some minor issues when switching targets or using BOff powers, but it's nothing a tap or two on the spacebar won't fix. It's still an improvement over having everything on manual.

Logged on today hoping the Dev that posted eariler in the Thread would have fixed the issue or have an update :(

Ground Auto-Fire seems to to now be working, but Ground Auto-Attack (Maintain) option is still missing.

Also, in Space the it is the same problem, you have to spam the space bar to get all the weapons going and if Red Alert drops, so does the Auto-Attack (Maintain).

Please get this fixed or give us an update Devs, its not game breaking, but enough to annoy me to not play at the moment, which is sad as I love this game... I think I am a tad addicted to it! :p

It looks like there are several bugs being described in this thread.

The major one seems to be that clicking on the Bridge Ofifcer Tray deselects your current target. That is the result of having the "Click Deselects Target" option turned on, coupled with "mouse capture" turned off on the tray.

The other is just a UI display issue in the control scheme options pane that should have no actual gameplay impact.

I've fixed both of these issues, and under ideal circumstances they should be pushed in the next patch.

Well, for me, when I close the Control Options panel (whether I hit apply or not - whatever behavior is listed in the 'auto attack' option is what I get (whether I manuially changed it or not) - so in my experience it was more than a simple display bug.

That said, I do hope your fix resolves it.

Will this fix the weapons not firing when pressing the space bar and Maintain not been "Maintained"? And when the UI is fixed will this fix all the weird behaviour?

ticket # 1170251. if indeed you, the dev have fixed this singularly pernishisly vexing issue, that renders ground combat to the status beating oneself one head with a large blunt object, then, sira, you have the undying gratitude of the entire player community.

    Says it all above...

Space Auto-fire and attack works to a degree, you have to spam the space bar to get it going and as long as you stay at red alert, once an enemy dies you will switch to another. But if the red alert goes you have to spam the space bar again to get the Auto-fire and attack going again.

Ground Auto-fire & attack is completely kaput! Have to press the numpad each time to fire the weapon despite the weapons icons highlighted Green to auto-fire. Auto-attack is non-functional and the option for Maintain in the control settings disappears.

Devs Please get this fixed as it is a major gameplay bug!

the maintain option on the ground auto attack is not that it disappears, it is simply GONE, it does not EXIST anymore the other auto attack sellections marked " toggle " never worked properly in the first place in that those comtrols options NEVER stayed selected. simply walking your charactor a short distance, or interacting with ANYTHING have the toggle type options bouncing around like an angry hornet in a beer can. the MAINTAIN selection for ground auto attack was the ONLY selection for auto attack [ground] that actualy worked at all.

I am assuming that this little fix isn't near the same code for the chat UI that broke the $target command in team chat? :) [/desperate]

The patch should not be alive to go live without those fixes.
The game is pretty much "unplayable" for me in its current state with the targeting bug.

Glad to hear about the fix. I never had a prob with the target deselect until Season 4. So did those options get auto-turned on or something? Will they be auto-off in the patch? I guess I'm confused how the patch fixes the issue

Hi I know your fixes have not gone live, but I am concerned that you think the issue of auto-fire and Maintain is a UI fault (which is also) but it shouldn't be affecting game play.

The UI fault maybe a complete seperate one cos I am getting major gameplay bugs on Ground maps and Space maps regarding Auto-Fire and Auto-Attack (Maintain) so will this be fixed?

For me the only thing that works in auto fire is maintain. In other modes if i click any boffs skill my weapons stop and count down from 10 to 0 then shut off. I have used toggle never cancels since game release. Also modes can change on their own.

I'll have QA look at the auto-attack issues, just in case I missed something.

As for the 'Maintain' auto-attack option on ground, that was removed intentionally because of a major issue with it. In regards to the other auto-attack types, the two 'Toggle' types work great for me. If there's a bug I'm missing in my tests, then that definitely needs to be investigated.

Thanks for all of the information!
