Shakedown Missions are funny....

Really. In the Federation one the Bortas effortlessly tanks 4 high-end Federation cruisers for a while. In the Klingon one the Odyssey is able to two-shot the player Bortas. One Attack that immediately drains all shields and a second with multiple tricobalt devices. Nice reaction to the complaints that the Odyssey won't do enough damage but only take it....:D

I disagree completely, I feel like the Fed one you have to hit the bortras for a bit to get it to leave, the KDF one though, I made the ody retreat in all of like 5 seconds on my sci officer.....gotta love the bias though, the ody has max crew of 1000, and the bortras has 2500 LOL

Yeah but a big portion of that 2500 is slave girls and bartenders.

Actually I had an easier time killing the bortas with the odessey than I did the other way around. Sad part is my klingon is designed around an engineer/cruiser build and wasn't able to take much damage at all...where as my fed is designed around tact/escort build and I had no problem tanking the bortas and killing it.

Not like that was the only problem with the shakedown missions. I thought the fed one was well done and appropriate...resembling the days of the original cast and the klingons wanting to try and test their skills against the federation's best.

But the klingon mission being just a reskinned hash of the federation mission really disappointed me. I'm mean seriously. I don't care if the Federation is at war with the Empire or not (which I don't like to begin with) but to do an attack like that was NOT at all with in federation profile. A better way to have done it would have been to stick with the federation version and have the klingon captain get over excited and decide to make a jump to mars to test it out.

I'm really disappointed. Although after the past year of garbage, I really shouldn't have been surprised. Come on Cryptic, show us you care and redouble your efforts before this game truely does die.

I'm calling BS. Everyone I've talked to have said the same. Bortas does nothing in the fight while Odyssey kills your shields with one CPB3 and then shoots you with TS3.

Of course everyone I talked to must've been biased too.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I just find the KDF mission so out of place. On the one hand I understand they pretty much cut and pasted one mission to the other, on the other hand I find it way out of character for Starfleet to just roll up and say 'Nice ship, open fire LOLZ'.

I mean, the Odyssey is being lauded as the next step forward in exploration, so naturally the first true test should be to pick a fight and take it into combat...wait, what?

    Very lazy of them.

oddessy never dropped my shields on borta, and thats on a lvl23 character. Borta ddidnt do much to my oddessy but i was on a lvl50. Wonder how many people actually set up their skills and bars before fighting.

Did you think that the reason it didn't do that to your lvl 23 klingon was because it was low level?

You needed to set up your skill bars? I didnt set up mine when I was using the Oddessy on 4 of my characters and it was easy every time... no challenge at all. On the Borta though my shields dropped and I got blown up twice.

The Klingon one really was silly with the Feds acting out of character. That sort of behaviour would get a Captain sent to prison.

I thought it would have been a lot more interesting if the KDF version was basically the "other side" of the FED mission.

So in the KDF one you scan the asteroids, kill the borg, then warp to Mars where you rough up the new FED flagship. Then when you "win" you force the FED flagship to retreat to get away. Upon victory you warp back to Qo'nos.

teh mission was, so blah it wasn't funny, 5 minutes little effort and boom... yeah, no epic in that at all never mind i had to fiddle with my bars to get everything to fit, then fix it back when i returned. I was at least hoping the mission would be something of an adventure, it wasn't, at all.

Any player going in from level 5 but under 44 is automatically raised to RA LH 44.

I've done it on 5 toons including a new, level 6 one. Didn't even bother to fill up the BO slots after doing it the first time. Easy and quick without using any powers.

I misunderstood the talk leading up to this. I understood that in order to get the ship you would have to log in at least once each day and complete 4 missions before the ship was rewarded to you.
I think I'd have preferred that. Within 15 minutes of the even starting the space around ESD was littered with Odyssey class ships as far as you could see. Makes it all seem a bit like less of a reward. It would have been just as easy and satisfying if I just found it in my bag when I logged on.

The Bortas, however, has a lower hull rating and slower turn rate.

I think it was a stupid idea, anyway. Even for the Klingons. I mean, you spend God knows how many resources designing the premiere battleship of your Empire, and your first instinct is to fly it into the heart of your enemy's territory, by itself, where you are surely to get a full fleet response?

Even if the Bortas could take the Odyssey on, they should've known they wouldn't stand a chance vs the Odyssey + every ship within range of the CAPITAL OF THE FEDERATION. When the Bortas came, I was backed up by two battleships and a dreadnaught. The Bortas didn't stand a chance.

Klingons might be reckless from time to time, and absolutely very aggressive, but they're not complete idiots. If they were, we'd have wiped them out centuries ago.

Yup, the missions could have been better and longer but, then again, I'm just happy I got my Odyssey Star Cruiser. Woot!

Oh and lets not forget the 6 Boff slots that the Ody has, along with the Ensign uni slot.

I like how the Odyssey still has the Universal Ensign slot... in addition to the Science Ensign slot. Wonder if they're trying to fool people into thinking the ship's better than it it, or if we're getting a preview of the +1 version...

Story gripes aside and ignoring the the disappearing ensign slot for the moment...

I had no real difficulty with either Shakedown mission. (Actually, by the 3rd run through I pretty much just parked whatever ship and clicked autofire since the "invader" ship doesn't really move. Not one of my 6 fights took longer than 2 minutes and I didn't even bother messing with BOFFS. However, I did experience massive hits from the enemy on at least two occasions (1 Fed, 1 KDF.) It seems to me that they simply managed to get an occasional good shot in (or perhaps the rampant lag helped.) . /shrug

Oh and don't forget that playing this shakedown mission somehow screwed up my entire power bar when it was over and I was back in my original ship, despite claims that this bug was fixed a few weeks ago.

I had to go back and reconfigure my power bar back the way it was AGAIN...

Well, it has something to do with fighting at level 50 with a standard issue mk1 shield array, I think.

Yeah, they don't actually put level-appropriate shields on the new flagships.

This. It is an huge disappointment, but hey this game is all about shooting and killing things, so it is in-game-canon. ;)

EDIT: I actually cannot complete the mission on fed site because after completing the shakedown mission I cannot go back to Sol. I couldn't load Sol system for 30 minutes straight and not its undergoing maintenance. I'm actually kind of ****ed about that. Too many players. F2P doesn't work that way. We need split servers, goddammit.
