At least one of my characters is going to fly the new flagship, but not all of them. I can't bring myself to park my Excelsior on my tactical character. I never found something I was happy with using my science character, so I will give the Odyssey a try. My Eng character is an escort flyer. So, the Odyssey is a non-starter. As for my KDF, I'll get it, but he's a BoP flyer.
Here's my breakdown:
Fed Human Tact: Excelsior Refit
Fed Lib Borg Sci: Odyssey
Fed Ferengi Eng: Defiant Refit
KDF Klingon Eng: Bortas
My main is going to stick to Defiant-R unless an absolutely AMAZING +1 Fleet Escort with killer looks and a killer ability is released.
My alt however is a tac, and I'm just experimenting with him.
So he'll fly it unless its unbearable.
My Gorn.... well its an open question.
Gotta get to level cap first, which will be hard considering how horrid the Klingon grind is, and how preoccupied I am with the MACO grind.
I will try it out but im playing escorts so it wont get flown much maybe just once in awhile. Klingon one on the other hand will probs be flown due to using cannons so it will be like a uber heavy escort tho i would have liked 5 for and 5 aft slots tbh.
I'm actually at a standstill. I just hit Vice Admiral and i'm not sure what cruiser i'm going to fly or invest my credits and time in to.
Of course, i'm going to get the Odyssey and Bortas simply because they are free. If a c-store version comes out in the future for either of them that I feel is worth my money, I will decommission the free ones and get the paid ones.
Not sure if i'll be flying the Odyssey though. I do know that i'm sticking to ships of Vice Admiral rank though which limits my choices.
It seems in many of the cases, the choice primarily comes down to an extra science vs tactical BOFF and/or console slot.
It is a difficult decision indeed!
P.S. With that said, the universal slot on the free Odyssey is pointless. They should have simply replaced it with an engineering slot in my opinion.
I don't even know what it is yet. I'm going to have to take a good look at it before deciding whether any of my characters will use it.
Assuming I figure out how to unlock it in the first place...
If you read the Dev Diaries and kept an eye on the front page, you would know...
.... that to unlock the Odyssey, you will have to see a new officer in ESD, Admiral Quinn's office, I believe. He gives you a mission. Complete the mission, and bam. Don't worry if you're not VA yet. You'll be given a requisition token to keep in your inventory till you are.
Anyways, I'll probably have my Science main float around in this thing for a bit. And definitely my Engineer alt, on both Fed and KDF side. I can see my KDF Tactical officer in this thing every once in a while, but not my Fed Tactical.

Yes, but I don't know what the mission is yet. I've passed up on a lot of "free" stuff in a certain other game because the missions to get them were too annoying. But we'll see.
I have six characters at VA, so it's quite possible that at least one of them might find a use for the new ship, whatever it is.
My very first character to hit level cap was an engineer that flies science ships. He's not really my main. In fact, he's like number three behind my Nausicaan and my Engineer that flies an assault cruiser.
I might fly this monstrosity with my number 3 dooder. Thing is, he currently flies a Nebula and I'm really tempted to just go back to the Retro Intrepid. The science-y-ness of the Odyssey might fit. It might not. I don't know. I mean what can the ship do that the Nebula can't you know?
My Sci/Star Cruiser will probably end up transferring. My Tac/Excelsior-R might consider switching. My Eng/Luna main, Sci/MVAE, and Sci/Nebula will probably keep their current ships.
My lone KDF Eng/Vor'cha may play with the Bortas, but the lack of maneuverability will probably keep it in drydock.
Gym "Yeah, I have a lot of science branch captains. I like the physicist kit for ground combat, okay?" Quirk

.... I did say it was a "new officer" at ESD, right? One that hadn't been there before? And the mission'll probably be something like "Odyssey Shakedown Cruise" or somesuch. Just keep your eyes peeled and pay cursory attention to Zone Chat, you shouldn't miss it. I daresay there might even be a big yellow bulletin about it when you log in and the mission is available, so don't worry!

this pretty much
I have a Science officer flying an escort, an Engineer flying a science vessel and a Tactical flying the cruiser.

One question I have, is the ship account wide once you pick it up, or just character specific?
I don't know. Put a science BOff there and it becomes possibly the best science ship in the game.
Each character has to complete the shakedown cruise to get it.

Roger that, thanks much

Because we all need another storage ship, lol:)
