I made a new character and had to go through that tutorial I really don't care for. But did I really need to be sent the following to my e-mail?
We couldn't have saved the U.S.S. Khitomer without you!

Starfleet has informed us that you have taken command of your own ship and are currently docked at Earth Spacedock. After you have reported to Admiral Quinn's Office, please speak with Commander Balt, who is stationed outside of Sickbay - he will discuss your Skills Training with you. While you are there, please also speak with Elsa Mora to learn about requisitioning new Bridge Officers.

Once you have learned about your Skills Training and Bridge Officers, report to Malcolm Sissel in the Shipyard for a briefing on your first mission. At any time, you can press "J" to bring up your mission journal; this database contains your current episodes, today's events, a monthly calendar of events, the PvE and PvP queues, and much more.

While you can continue flying in your starter ship until your next promotion, you can also upgrade and fly an original Constitution class, Oberth class, or Enterprise NX Replica class ship right now through the C-Store.

Lastly, if you are interested in becoming a Gold Member, please visit this page.

An no opt out of this type e-mail available? I have the "receive STO news" option already unchecked.

What's next? An e-mail saying "You dumb Federation dog! We tried to warn you that you had an Undine imposter on your ship! Today will be a good day for you to die!" because of the Vulcan ambassador mission?

    No.

    Whats next is that if you blow up more then X number of times, or each time you get a promotion;

    "From Admiral Quinn
    To Captain; InsertName

    Official Starfleet Transmission;

    Captain,

Given the difficult and dangerous nature of your continuing mission I am recommending you commission an advanced starship for the safety of your crew and to ensure swift victorious completion of future missions.
These advanced starships can be accessed from the C-Store...
    blah
    blah
    blah
(You know how the rest of this s*** goes)

I can see them doing this. I really can. Especially since they're now owned by a company located in the same region of the world where around 90% of the planet's email spam originates from.

    • Both Fed and KDF +1 ship advertisement E-Mails
    • Starfleet 'Uniform Code' E-mails encouraging costumes
    • E-mails to chars who haven't started a Klngon char yet
    • E-Mails when you max out all your char slots
    • etc

    Or run low on Dilithium/EC/GPL

Oh and to clarify just in case, that message was sent to my actual e-mail and not the in-game e-mail.

Ohhhh, that one would tick me off to no end. 2 years of playing this and I've never started one and have no intention of ever playing one.

I never gotten any from them. And I have many over 10. Couple of caps too.

Edit: Actually I stand corrected. They did send something but they always came at the same time as a bulk thing is sent to me. Has to do with work the bulk but I used that e-mail addy for TOR so I wouldn't miss the beta invite thing. I just went to look and between each of them had some from TOR when I sorted by sender instead of date. And it says for each class some level guide thing. Like I really needed that. /rolling eyes

Only thing in TOR I have checked is the one that says : Sign up to receive Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ updates by email.

I would guess that would be game updates and not a random mail for reaching level 10 for the first time on a class. Well will uncheck it when I finally roll a IA and see if that caused it.

Its only an email which will have took you all of a minute to browse why not just delete it instead of coming on here making a thing out of it.

I have never received them so i guess i must have opt'd out unless its a new thing either way no biggy.

    Another one?

At this rate I won't be surprised to see "Prophets / Pah-wraith" dialogue options in the next FE, causing the screen to glow blue or red accordingly.

Actually it should send it to NEW players that don't know anything if anyone. Not someone who had a sub at the time F2P went live and already have characters even higher. That was for one that was a replacement for one deleted.

At least as the poster pointed out about TOR's it only sends them for the first time you reach level 10 on a class. If STO was that smart then I wouldn't have gotten it.

And sorry if I have as much right to post something as you do, Mr Special Man

I got it after I created a new character after my account dropped to silver. It's probably a thing they do after all silver players beat the tutorial the first time (even though I skipped it.) I know I got something similar from Champions when I beat the tutorial the first time. It's not spam and, if you're an experienced player, just delete it and carry on.

Thank you for validating my statement. Since I am not sure if your response is intended as sarcasm or not, I will simply state that the majority of the countries you listed fall into the 'Asian' region of the world, which is the area I was referencing in my original post.

NP. It goes to stand that the 2nd, 3rd, 9th, 15th, 18th, and 24th ranked GDP countries combined will probably crank out more spam the the 1st ranked GDP country by itself ;)

Although I'm still trying to do the math on how 14 + 11 + 8.6 + 3.8 + 3.7 = 90. Perhaps my Hyperbole Detector smashed to heck and back.

C'mon, everyone knows that every Asian country is a haven for spammers and headquarters for PWE... and have exceptional ping pong players ;)

because many people don't like getting spam emails they didn't ask to receive. there is supposed to be an opt-out option. i'm not sure where it is but if they don't offer one, it could cause them problems if someone went and complained about it. ask some telemarketing companies what happened to them after repeated requests for people to be added to do not call lists were ignored.
Its called advice and assistance - not spam.

if you willingly opt-in its advice and assistance. if you opt-out and they send it anyway its spam. and sending info about the latest cstore TRIBBLE is neither advice or assistance. its a marketing gimmick

And illiteracy is apparently even more so, else you'd be able to comprehend that 'from a region of the world' does not mean 'is a region of the world.'

Seriously, if you think those two sentences mean the same thing, that frightens me.

Majority of spam comes from right here in the United States of America which is responsible for nearly 20%of the entire world’s spam; this is twice the amount of the nearest competitor, China.

Hey! STO got bought by a USA company again!?!?! Or is someone just posting out of there aft section without actually fact checking;)
