Hi,
while looking through the C-Store I found Services that offer 2 and 4 additional slots. While the upgrades for other slots like doffs, bank and such says how often they can be used on a character those say nothing. Does this mean unlimited characters for your account if you're willing to buy or is there a limit (i think there's one)?
If you need more, uh, I dunno what Cryptic's stance is on multiple accounts, but you can probably do that now that they're F2P. Of course there's the whole C-store issue, but honestly if you've absolutely need more than forty characters, I'm fairly certain you'll just be able to buy that stuff again.
And what's to prevent us from making lots of free accounts to just get around this issue?
Edit: The point I'm trying to make by asking this question is why establish a limit? It can't be a software or hardware limitation, or there would be a limit on how many accounts can be created. It just seems silly to put an arbitrary limit when we can just create free accounts to do the exact same thing.

There is nothing that I know of keeping you from making more than one account and maxing out the character slots there as well. but notice that they said the most you can buy is 40 slots, that's ten 4 packs. not cheap by definition.
as for setting a limit, I guess it might be the same reason why they have caps on the number of ships and the number of bank and inventory slots a toon can have. something to do with the page file of each toon having to be loaded into the instance and the more data that such inventory/bank and ship slots cause the longer the load time.
I might be wrong, but as the Mail server is account wide with very little segregation between what toons mail shows up, it could lead to even larger data files because you'd be forced to load in all the mail data as well.
Personal Note: I'm not a huge fan of the per character bank and inventory slot packs having such low limits upon them. I'm a lifer. I've got five active toons and ten more slots. I can deal with them being per character, but I'd really like to see the cap raised to some thing much higher, say ten of Bank and personal Inventory, and an update to the interface would be nice, rather than make the bank and inventory scroll down for more. why not give us tabs ala the fleet bank.

Multiple characters on one account do create more load on the system than the same number of characters across multiple accounts. Just one example is when you log in the database has to send all your characters to the login server so that you can do character selection.

I figured as much... just out of curiosity my oh mighty Dev. is this a server/hardware limitation where it would be possible at a later date to be a none issue an we'd be able to have more storage on on toons? or is this more of a coding issue where the code just isn't quite up to Hupyrian beetle snuff and it would take a large amount of man hours to code in better handling of inventory and back end server loads

Speaking of maximum slots, could someone at Cryptic give the OP of this thread some special assistance? He has purchased and achieved the maximum number of ship slots, which is causing rewards that give an additional ship slot to be bugged.
Specifically, he cannot claim the Veteran "Relentless" Reward nor F2P Testing "Dimensional Hero" Reward. Last I checked, he's hit the wall with Customer Service and GM's.

I believe the 40 limit is for Bridge officers. I am honestly not sure what it is for character slots.
