    Lovely.

Just a heads up for everyone that already bought the Steam version, re-update it through Steam. And afterward you may need to re-patch at the launcher. I've been getting authentication errors and constant d/c's since today's patch and the Steam F2P release.

The only thing you need to know, is that Steam isn't Origin.. :D

Oh and read up on it. You ask a forum a question and you're gonna get about 6 different answers.. make up your own mind.

Steam is a digital distribution, digital rights management, multiplayer and communications platform developed by Valve Corporation. It is used to distribute games and related media online, from small independent developers to larger software houses. Steam also has community features, automated game updates, in-game voice and chat functionality.

As of January 2012, there are 1504 games available through Steam,[4] and 40 million active user accounts.[5] The concurrent users peak was 5 million on January 2, 2012.[6] Although Valve never releases sales figures, Stardock, the previous owner of competing platform Impulse, estimated that, as of 2009, Steam had a 70% share of the digital distribution market for video games.[7]

Many major publishers have large catalogs available on Steam, including Bethesda Softworks, Activision, Rockstar Games, Square Enix, 2K Games, Sega, and Telltale Games.

Link if you decide to read up on it after all.

Does this affect how we launch the game for those of us who pre-ordered on Steam way back before launch?

Steam is an excellent program if you're a PC gamer, they have a large library of games, they have almost every major PC game release. you can check out what they have on their site.

For those of us that have had the game since the beta days, if we download from Steam, how is this going to effect us?

Why download it from steam if you already have a launcher an an install?

Anyways, it will make you re-download the whole game because its not saved in the same area.

I'm sure, though, it will be well received by those who just can't deal with using PMB and its hit-or-miss connectivity.

Ran into more problems. Decided to just re-install from Steam. If that doesn't work I'll try downloading from Cryptic. I wonder if any of the new players from Steam today will have any issues.

Steam is also a no way to remove unused software, sure it lets you delete the local content, but turn around next time steam loads, it downloads it again i can't get killing floor off nor can i get nuclear dawen off cause as soon as it loads next time steam re downloads it.

I went to check how the page of STO was on steam and noticed it is marked as if having steam achievements. Anyone knows anything if cryptic is planning on implementing this?

    Pro Tips:
If you've already got the game installed, but want to hook it up in steam, you can either
    A) click "add non steam game" and add STO to the list, which will let you use the Steam Overlay and Friends features, as well as show others when you're playing.
    B) Goto the steam store, click download. Pause Download. Go to your existing STO folder, and copy it's contents to the newly made (mostly) empty steam folder, and paste it there. Once copied over, resume your steam download, which should go much more quickly. Verify the files, and you should be good to go.

P.S. I love me some Steam.

It must be a problem on your end, that has never happened to me or anyone I know.

That sounds really weird I have plenty of games that are currently not downloaded on my steam I am not sure what is wrong with yours but i have never had this happen.

Where are you deleting it from? If you're deleting the folder in Explorer, then sure it will redownload it. If you right-click on a game in the client and tell it to delete, it never redownloads it. I've never had a situation where it redownloaded a game I uninstalled, so make sure you're actually deleting it through the program itself.

According to my Steam client I have only played a whopping 5.7 hours... I know I've played way more then that, because my main character has logged in nearly 20 days worth of play time since I started playing last November, and my Klingon toon for about 10 hours. So I don't know where its getting only 5.7 hours from...

When I first bough the game, I bought it from Direct2Drive. At the time I bought it, I didn't know that my LTS would come with a free copy of the game. I simply chose D2D because of the retailer bonus items that came with buying from them.

Now of course, the game is free to play, so that whole point is moot, but when I started with STO, I was playing a lot of Steam games, and I wanted to use their system's community features, chat, and so on with other players. But I was told then that the "Add Non-Steam Game" function wouldn't really offer the same achievement tracking and so on.

Now I can finally download a Steam-functional copy of STO. I'm so happy. If only I could go back and have the game retroactively inform steam of all my hours played, achievements, and so on.

question: was the steam client updated to the latest build?

because pre F2P the Steam client was the same as on the DVD, which means a 2 year old build and after download it would Patch around 8 GB through the launcher, would be nice if the new players would not have to download the complete thing basically twice.

I bought STO though steam originally, but since the client is stand alone I never kept up with the steam version.

    Now that might change :)

There's an interesting picture in the Steam gallery:

    Clickie

Anyone ever seen that bridge before? Looks new to me. On the left side you can see at least two ship diagrams, one Excelsior and one Sovereign. The bridge got a defianty vibe to it but it looks different enough compared to the loading screen, especially the LCARS and carpet.

I think it's one of the Defiant variant ones.

Now all I need on Steam is AOE Online, Free Realms, WoW, and Runes of Magic

My Install of STO copied over just fine same thing happened with Champions.
