found this while playing skyrim. Its an Ad for STO. So for those of u who think they dong exist, heres proof! Tho Skyrim Wiki not the best place for star trek ads.
STO ads have been running. I have seen a couple sites, including gamespot, with "takeover" ads, where they have not only the banner at the top, but they take over the background of the entire page. There have been a few TV ads running as well. Salami Inferno reported seeing one on Adult Swim last week.
Nice This is the first ive seen off the tiny lil Facebook ads
EDIT: Gamestop sells games i can see why theyed have ads, i do question why theres an ad on Skyrim Wiki

Any plans to show Ads outside the US, or does the Advertising budget not stretch to that
The TV ads are pretty cool -- they even include some new scenes that are not in the trailer. There are also a couple animated side banner ads that you might see around the net.

Simple.
Cryptic buys ad space from Google and tells them they want to target PC gaming sites.
SkyrimWiki signs up to run Google ads and lists themselves as a PC gaming site.
a bit off topic, dont u think its time to get a new Guy to represent STO, been the same guy on the banners since the begining :P Or atleast change the pose? lol Also Give him a bigger gun

Ya know I actually was thinking about this earlier as I saw a few STO ad's

I like him. And we all know, it's not the size of the gun you have, but how you use it.

ya I agree he does look cool and I know the phaser is iconic but I think if you give him something other than the little remote control the ad will attract more people :P
I agree give him a MACO rifle. Also his badge would look better Silver, Tho change his Pose ppl... Also Maybe add some Banners with a fight between MACO and Honor Guard and the Borg. The Borg are alot of ppls favorite part of startrek. ALso can we get the Guy in the banners hair ingame? Really?

I always thought he looked a bit like Jonny Rico from the Starship Troopers movies (more the older Rico from the 3rd film). It always makes me think there's a giant insect, just out of the shot, that's about to get vaporized.
I went to MMORPG yesterday to look at the progress of Planetside 2 and Guild wars 2. STO had the banner on their site. I couldn't remember when it wasn't Rift.

other countries have specific laws governing what an advert should contain, there probably wouldnt be any TV ads for the UK or europe, with them hefty taxes and stealth taxes, i wouldn't count on it! i doubt any adverts would reach China, since my freedom of speech would gain infraction points to prove that point, so thats that unfortunately. what an irony.
I remember when the ships came out a marketing decision was made that the only ads would be online. Not enough money for booths at Star Trek conventions and not enough for TV ads even during Star Trek marathons taking place at the time. I don't know whether this was Atari's fault or the marketing dept. but I think it really cost STO a lot of subscribers. Star Trek is a popular enough IP that it was not outside the possibility of having a million subscribers if it had been marketed effectively, and a few changes that took far too long happened earlier, like the sector space improvements. Just seeing that awful sector space with sticks holding up planets and winding ribbons runing through space for no purpose is the reason I have no Star Fleet Battles group friends who play STO. Their interest lasted about 1 day. But those were motivated gamers who were the prime audience for STO. TV ads could have brought a lot more non-online-gamer Trek fans. It was a wasted opportunity.
It's harder to get people now. A lot of people already read bad reviews for STO, and they don't feel like it's a new game, which in many ways it is. But, tv ads during Star Trek on cable channels would be a great fit and should justify their costs.

Cool story bro. However, there were a TON of U.S. TV ads when STO first came out. This one was among them.
I do too. Cryptic, can you throw the new one on the web?
If you can't or don't have time. I have a media center DVR with 6 tuners that record a lot of Adult Swim. If I manage to snag it I'll throw it on youtube. I don't watch everything that records so if anyone see's it, PM me with the time. EST preferred.

I remember a post by the head of marketing at the time who said just what I said, that the decision had been made that tv and convention marketing was too expensive and the decision had been made to go online only, that STO was to be a niche market for online gamer Trek fans.
And how much did this ad play on actual TV? It's possible it was made but didn't run that much, that would jive with I think it was Rehpic who said what I remembered.

So then how do you explain the STO TV ad I just linked, which was - wait for it - ON TV, and shown multiple times during a Star Trek marathon on the SciFi Channel (another thing you claim the devs said would never be done).
That video linked had a pretty terrible voice, IMO. Probably best it wasn't shown much.
I've yet to see any STO TV ads, but I've seen several Facebook ads (I also get/got a lot of general Star Trek/sci-fi stuff) and I saw an ad on Gunnerkrigg Court, which is pretty cool.

I'd love to see this 'post by the head of marketing' you claim to have knowledge of.
They did have a partnership with SyFy as a retailer of the game.
It's not like we saw ads on NBC or USA or SyFy's sibling companies or on CBS.
In general, STO ads and promos in the past involved deals cut with business partners or very small companies.
Putting ads on AdultSwim is actually a pretty big deal, comparatively.
Now we need to lobby Seth Green for a Star Trek Robot Chicken special, have Seth MacFarlane call the TNG cast back up, and lobby for a segment (or the entirety) to be done in STO machinima. (At least the space scenes.)

There are TV ads?
I thought you guys [Cryptic] stopped posting ads after day two after launch. OTher than SyFy ads almost 2 years ago I've seen 0 ads for STO.
Unfortunately, after going through a couple thousand posts, the problem is any post I made before January 2011 can't be accessed. The response I remember was to a post I made, and I can't get to it since I probably wrote that post many months before the limit of 500 posts were made.
I can't deny they did run commercials during one Star Trek marathon though, your post shows that. I still remember, and am not senile, the post I mentioned.
I've already wasted a ton of time on this. You can say it didn't happen, I say it did.
I always thought he looked a bit like Jonny Rico from the Starship Troopers movies (more the older Rico from the 3rd film). It always makes me think there's a giant insect, just out of the shot, that's about to get vaporized.
Yeah, definitely too casper van deam or however you spell it.
A he should have at least a pose that doesn't look like a cheesy action star in one of those "I-survive-everything-without-a-scratch-til-the-end" movies.

Oh yeah, please don't imply I'm lying.
Use the advanced search field. You can set the search for things a year ago and older. Unfortunately it doesn't have your specific posts listed, but threads you posted in. If you started the thread, then it'll work better, since there's only 15 that you started before January of last year, apparently (although none look like they have anything to do with ads).

In fact, here is a post from a Cryptic marketing rep promoting the aformentioned marathon, replete with STO advertisements.
And here is a post from that same thread confirming that the TV ads would be running during it.

That would be huge.
