We will be bringing down the shard on Monday, January 23rd from 8:00AM to 10:00AM PST (1600 to 1800 UTC) in order to perform maintenance and apply a new patch. We will provide an update once the maintenance has been completed.

Patch like in "Release notes" or patch like in "back end stuff"?

Be nice if they actually gave any sort of information as to what the past week has done for the system(s) in terms of maintenance.......

EDIT: No rage here. I'm just all for the idea that more information is always better.

(Just FYI - it appears they're not happy campers regarding it either.)

This is quickly becoming standard rote for this nowadays. But ah well, at least they're telling us this. One game I was on, Conquer Online (God, what was I thinking when I joined that game.) would just shut down without a warning.

I'm sure cryptic does their maintenance when the least amount of players is online. Which shows the giant success of STO on all those small islands in the pacific and in the asian countrys where PWE isn't even officially present. Go STO! :D

i dont know what the hell is going on with you guys. you complain if there is no update and now we have a daily one and still everybody seems to be mad about it :D its not permanent and your comments like "Here we go again... Daily Maintenance incoming." are totally useless and do nothing else than making me laugh.

It is the number one goal for the programming team right now to stop doing daily restarts. We have people working nights and weekends(myself included) until this gets fixed. It requires some restructuring of the code in our database that handles saving of character updates to disk, so needless to say we are being careful and testing thoroughly. We are pushing updates to Tribble once or twice a day and running artificial load tests internally.

I'm not going to make a promise for when exactly it will be, but I wanted to let you know that we are taking it seriously and are making good progress toward reducing the number of required restarts.

I wont have my net hook up at my new place at least for another few days...so this doesnt bug me.....not in the slightest.

Then again this is a restart right? What Cryptic restart wouldnt be proper like they did it at the first launch....kinda eerily the same IMO......

I think theres a way to control the forum rage AND allow for daily downtime: "Make it a Daily"... Reward 480 or 1000 or somthing like that Dilithium Ore to all Gold accounts for each of theese...

... problem solved: it's a daily mission... and you dont even have to be online to do it xD

Is this updating really necessary, create 2 copies of shard and update other while playing inside other?
Just make those shards use same dataserver?

It's really annoying as European that you guys stop my gameplay just right after i have played few hours.

Actually it's 17:00-19:00... I know not much better. ;) But it would be nice if they at least could make it one hour earlier.

All you Fauxtechno Noobs and your silly nannering on about "Time zones". As was! You consistently will fail to realize until it is past you that we here are in the future did also not like server maintenance. We will create a time machine to send our technicians back to you so they can do this nonsense. And so Grampa I tell you now your favorite saying to me; It builds character.

Finaly some news as to why this is happening...

They could avoid a lot of the forum rage by just keeping the customers informed as to what is really going on. every developer goes through this at least once. Lets hope they learn from it...

Ha, sounds like a similar bug I noticed with character animations.

If your char is stood facing, say a console, and you have the camera facing behind them. If you start running in that direction, your character runs backwards for a few seconds, before their model rotates around to the proper direction.

Its cool they gave us a 30 minute warning today.

That was enough time to wrap up what I was doing.

The 15 minute warnings were a bit too short.

The editor review this post: "it had to be trimmed a bit but it's still an improvement on the original"

"Oh what does it say now?"

    "Mostly harmless"
