Its pretty amazing to think about how much Trek has influenced real life technology. Granted, the idea of this material did exist before Star Trek 4: The Voyage for Hippies.
Nothing wrong with hippies. The earliest ones developed farming. We'd still be clueless nomads following herds around if it weren't for them.
I'd like to see this stuff used for deeper-diving submersibles. Just having it used for windows on military vehicles is sort of sad.
That is how a lot of technology get developed. The Military says: "Hey, wouldn't this make us more effective?" Then they build it. Then some dude in a basement says, "Hey, this would be really awesome on my Pinto" and then boom, a whole new industry or way of doing things is born.
