Podcast UGC Jem Hadar Attack Ship Contest Update and Entrants

Do you dig Jem Hadar attack ships? Not dig that whole chance box deal so much? Well if you listen to Podcast UGC, you'd know that we have a Jem Hadar attack ship and we're awarding it to the creator of the best Foundry mission themed around the recovery of one of these Jem Hadar vessels.

We've given authors several weeks to craft their finest, and we've gotten more entries than I ever expected we would! Here is our current working list of submitted Jem Hadar ship missions:

Federation
More Than Just Missing by Bazag
Final Judgement by Leviathan99
Victory is Q by AdmiralMurphy
Invasion by Gorilla-P
Re-emergence by DenizenVI
As the World Dies by Chooch99
Salvage Rights by CaptainBaldy
Gift of the Prophets by Azurian
Open Secrets by Zadama
Perilous Prize by Nagorak
Catharsis by RachelGarrett
Alexandria Incident

Klingon
The Fires of the Prometheus by Soriedem
That one little ship... by Rushe
Where Angels Fear to Tread by Alecto

The absolute deadline for missions is 11:59 PM PST on Tuesday evening, January 17th. You can continue working on your missions after the due date for publishing and submission, but don't expect us to have played those changes. We will play the missions between the due date and the next Tuesday evening January 24th, when we will announce the winner on TrekRadio.net during our regularly scheduled live recording of the podcast.

If you have any submissions for the contest that you would like to bring to our attention, you can email us at podcastugc@starbaseugc.com , or simply reply to this post with the project title and author name of the mission you'd like to submit!

Again, thanks to Captain Gecko and the others at Cryptic Studios for the Jem Hadar Attack Ship reward! Now go out there and play and create with the Foundry!

    Oops, my bad Havraha

My mission:"That one little ship..." is actually on the KDF side not Fed. Sorry about the confusion!

Good luck to all of the entrants. This is a nice thing to do for a lot of gifted foundry authors.

    Hello Hav,

I apologize if I didn't make it perfectly clear previously, but "Where Angels Fear to Tread" is a Klingon faction mission and not yet published. I didn't start working on it until a number of days into January, and then work was postponed to save a mission I had on Tribble only to then find out Tribble wasn't being wiped.

I'm casually hard at work on the mission though and I hope it will be finished late on Jan 14th, could however be finished early 15th.

I will reply here when it's published.

Ah TRIBBLE, I didn't notice it was themed to be "about" any certain subject I had just finished this mission and had people suggest I submit it, it isn't involving the Jem'hadar.

I'll try and make one properly themed if i can make it by the day before the contest i'll re submit.

In fact I feel confident i can make one this weekend, I consider myself apt at quickly churning out a story.

    A challenge!

At the very least, keep the submission for regular review purposes please as a request if able :)

About halfway done with what I hope is a "good under crunch" little mission :P

    Synopsis to chew on:

    "As The World Dies"

Jem'Hadar fighters have begun randomly appearing across the quadrent, always abandoned and apparently Dominion War era designs.

Sent to investigate a sighting of a large number of these mystery ships, you find yourself caught in the middle of a salvage claim war between Ferengi and Orion starships.

And to make matters worse, strange temporal phenomena are begining to occur aboard your ship..

Just got informed by chooch about this contest. I want a jemmie ship SO bad and I will spend most of my time tomorrow building a mission for this! It's been a while since I dug into the foundry tools but this is bringing me back! I'm at work now but nothing's going on, time to build a storyline!

Ok, I think it's very uncool that the deadline is now moved up to the 15th. You guys have posted elsewhere that it was the 17th and now you're moving it up 2 full days. That's really not right.

I was on target to finish my mission by the old deadline but I'm going to struggle to get it done by the new one. I feel this is very unfair to those who were going based off of your previous announcements. :(

Actually, here is what you actually said in your previous post:

Our second contest, which I suppose I should say is "sponsored by Captain Gecko!", is the Jem Hadar Contest. We want you to create a Foundry mission that follows the recovery of one of the Jem Hadar Attack Vessels by Starfleet or the KDF. It doesn't matter what additional creative flare you give the mission, as long as the recovery of one of these vessels is a central plot point. The winner of this contest will receive a Jem Hadar Attack Vessel as provided by Cryptic. The deadline for submissions for this contest is January 17th.

I hope you seriously reconsider this new deadline, because this is not the way to run a contest. If you announce an original deadline, moving it up is really weak. If we'd know all along it was due on the 15th we would have acted differently.

Didn't even know there was a contest, and it's over today?

Then if what Nagorok is saying is true in changing the deadline by 2 days, seems like a really cheap move by Starbase UGC. Gives the appearance of purposely rigging the contest.

I was thinking about it more and it occurred to me that many people don't check the forums or Starbase UGC everyday. If I hadn't just happened to check, I wouldn't even know it was now due early and I'd be happily working away after the ship was already given out. I hate to think that others out there might not end up getting to take part in the contest because they don't even know the deadline has been changed. :(

This seems like a really ill advised move to me.

The idea behind moving the contest due date up was that we wanted to announce a winner on free to play launch day along with the other events. We didn't believe there would be any last minute submissions, really, so we didn't think it would be a problem.

Apparently, its a problem. But this isn't the first time someone has told me to hold off on it a bit, so I think at the very least we ought to go back to our original due date of the 17th and then announce the winner the following week. Its a bit less triumphant, but it looks like people are still working and therefor its the only way to be fair.

That's cool, I am rushing to have "Where Angels Fear to Tread" ready to be published by the end of today. I'll continue to work through out the day to finish the work to get the mission into a working condition, but appreciate the original deadline being set once more.

I can use that extra day to check for bugs, dialog errors, maybe add a couple of special extra non-essential Easter eggs and just generally run as many QA passes on the mission as I possibly can, thank you.

I really appreciate that you guys are moving it back to the original date. :D

Honestly, the new deadline was going to kill me. I was going to try to finish my mission by the deadline, but it would mean staying up for probably 24-30 hours straight. It would not have been fun (I'm not sure if I could have pulled it off, to be honest).

I'll still try to get my mission finished as quickly as possible, but even having one more day is a huge help.

The thing that gets me, if Geko really was hosting this contest then Cryptic should've temporarily stickied this on the forum (or the Foundry forum) or mentioned the contest on the homepage like they do with other contests (like they are now with the party event). And the same should be said for Starbase UGC, there is really no posts regarding this contest.

I would've entered this contest if I knew about it, but even if it's extended to the 17th, 2 days is not enough to pull together a decent foundry mission.

I can understand you wanting to announce it on a grand date, but that should've been thought of on before the contest was announced. And the lack of advertisement isn't really fair either.

    /Snip

Just want to make sure you are aware that no person who works for Cryptic Studios is hosting this contest in any official capacity, the only involvement any official body has had in this contest, is in the act of gifting a Dominion Attack Fighter to StarbaseUGC.

Hav can correct me if I'm wrong...

So it's definitely being set back to the 17th? Because I could really use some sleep before I go back to work tonight :P

In any case...I'll have it published pretty soon, but like some others said, I'd like to polish it and make it all sparkly and awesome.

Like I said, "the least" we should do is make the 17th the final submission day. What this means is that you need to have a mission project published and in our mailbox at podcastugc@starbaseugc.com by 11:59 pm PST on the 17th. We will play the missions between that time and the next Tuesday. However, there's technically nothing keeping you from continuing to work on your missiom after the due date. Just don't expect us to have played your latest updates or fixes. :-)

Never said Geko or Cryptic was running the contest, only that he was involved to some level.

Still, Cryptic did not advertise UGC's contest unlike they do for other websites. (For example the recent contest advertisement for Massively for F2P's launch). So the lack of advertisement is rather negligent to the community, especially with the number of entries being what 6 or 8 entires?

Be great if Starbase UGC would extended the contest and ended the contest on the second anniversary so the entire community gets a chance, at the same time it would be a boon as a foundry advertisement and get people involved.

It would be great if they had advertised it a bit more but Cryptic, apart from supplting the prize, have absolutely nothing to deal with it. As Hav had said elsewhere they were given the ship to do with 'as they wished.'

Unlike massively's event which is part of the Free2Play Launch which cryptic do have something to do with.

It's a shame and I wish they did but it is too late now to change anything as a contributor to the contest I would also like to wish everyone good luck.
