Confirmed by trekmovie.com
Shooting for the 2013 Star Trek Sequel has officially begun.
On January 12th JJ Abrams once again called "Action!" for a new Star Trek movie.
The shooting is planned to last until May.
Special Effects have already been in the works for several months, again made by ILM.
This time they will be filming on more locations than they did on the last one. Mentioned are Paramount Studios, Sony Pictures Studios and Southern California.
The movie will be in cinemas on May 17th, 2013. Which gives them plenty of time for post production.
I can't wait to see how it turns out and I hope I'm not the only one excited about this. :)

LLAP :D

I am also excited about this and hope we survive 2012 so we can all watch it! :p

I also have no doubt that we'll get a couple of spoilers via YouTube, which seems to be all the rage these days.

I could not help but notice that you now wear a red shirt.

My condolences on your impending death by something that initially looks harmless.

I'll send a ham to your widow.

Oh please please please no more shaky camera.
I'll buy JJ some Cryptic Points if he doesn't make the next movie give people headaches.

Maybe he'll do us all a favor and destroy Qo'nos in the Prime Universe like he destroyed Romulus. That would certainly make things easier on the Devs.

Other than that, there's not much (other than the consumption of popcorn) to look forward to on this.

Freaking sweet! I can't wait for the next one. The first Abrams movie made me mad because I felt like the cast was just starting to feel at home with each other at the end of the movie.

In the next film, Kirk and company will take on PWE and force them to provide us some CONTENT.

the star wars fanboi again? did anyone tell him that the command to fire up the warp drive is engage and not "punch it". "punch it" is from star wars, not Star Trek. hopefully he'll keep all references to sw out this time, and even watched one TOS episode, tho I highly doubt it

My fear is this will feature one Khan Noonian Singh. That means it will either be very very good or terribad.

Please god no more JJ Abrams craptastic Star Trek movies.

I would rather gouge out my eyes than watch another abomination of a Star Trek movie under him.

Apparently that *was* the plan, early on, but it's been abandoned. No authoritative word on who/what the bad guy will be next time, though an actor has been signed for a/the villain role.

Kirk said Engage? I always thought that was a Picard original.

JJ Abrams makes Star Trek? I'm sorry, but that abomination of a movie in 2009 was not Star Trek. It was lens flares, explosions, action, and fast pacing. That does not make a good science fiction film, contrary to what Michael Bay may think.

Then again, I'm a TNG fan. I prefer my scifi to make me want to think.

Was it a good movie? Yes. Was it Star Trek? No. It's as simple as that.

and Pike in The Cage. no ship's captain in any of the series, whether regular or guest cast, ever said "punch it"

I think with the drought of no series no for like atleast a decade almost. The JJ Prize movies are the only thing beside STO with a Star Trek label on it. A true fan has no choice but to watch.

Unsteady or shaky camera work can cause nausea and dizziness for some viewers, particularly in some large-screen formats. Perhaps you weren't aware of that.
